I’m shooting a 10/22 in NRL22 as well. I use the Magpul stock, BX trigger and a barrel I got off eBay. A first focal plane scope is preferred. Good luck. I’ve shot in 2 matches and I really enjoy it.
@@road2nrl22 most people are using a Vortex Diamondback Tactical first focal plane. I currently use a Westhunter 4-14 first focal plane from Amazon. The Westhunter is a cheap scope but it is working for me.
The Magpul Hunter stock is perfectly adequate for precision 10/22 or T/CR 22. Fancier-looking chassis are providing more aesthetics than performance when you consider the mild recoil of the 10/22. A rear tang is really all you need to get hair-splitting OCD crazy on optimization. If your shooting fundamentals are solid, you'll do better than eager folks with big wallets. Most shooting accuracy is in the shooter and not the rifle, though it's fun to optimize if you know what you're doing and are careful about it. What barrel did you choose?
Probably the best test I have seen of the 10/22 accuracy potential. I'm surprised you did not try any American made ammo. I have a Savage MKII that I'm happy to say absolutely hates any expensive foreign ammo. Like you I tried about 8 different brands, but nothing would group. However it loves CCI Standard velocity 40 grain, and will shoot 5 shot groups under a half inch all day long. I don't know how much ammo you go through between matches and practice, but I would not be able to afford shooting at $15 a box for some of this stuff. Maybe do another test of the US stuff, you might be surprised. As a side note, I shoot Steel Challenge with a 10/22 with a Tactical Solutions barrel, and the best groups with that gun is CCI Blazer. At 500 rounds a week, I'm REAL happy it hates the good stuff. 😅
Thanks for the video. I like the way the rear takedown screw is used to give a more secure fit in the chassis. That should improve accuracy over the normal action screw. Really nice looking rifle. I did not see your part one so I don't know who made your barrel. I replaced my stock 10/22 barrel with one made by Clint Beyer. He builds his barrels with a high grade of aluminum with a steel liner bore and a chamber that is probably between match and Bentz. Of the different chambers - sporter, Bentz, and match - you get better accuracy as you move toward the match. However my understanding is that the semi auto rimfires do best with Bentz chambers. Anyway, I usually shoot Federal Premium Champion 40 grain because it is dry (not lubricated) with 1200 fps velocity. I don't want the wax because it tends to gum up everything, and the gun cycles perfectly with higher velocity. No stingers! I continue to get sub MOA groups.
Yup... I plan on using some CCI standard to do some testing with action screw torque. Wondering if I can get the groups down small enough to practice with.
@@road2nrl22 you have a hard joint between takedown screw and chassis with chassis and gun being aluminum, just get it nice and snug and focus on other upgrades. Trigger is a must, and KIDD 2 stage trigger is the best out there. Pricey but worth it.
New scope could help eliminate some parallax error. That crossfire has parallax factory set to 100 yards, so if you do most of your 22 in the 50 yard range, a "rimfire" scope would be ideal, or an AO scope if you like to switch between 50 yard plinking, and lobbing 22s at 300 yard plates for fun.
@@road2nrl22 Very nice. I was also curious, how is the cheek height in the new chassis? I've been looking at getting the same one, but trying to figure out if I'll need a cheek riser or not.
@@thedivisionbell220 The cheek height is quite high, even slightly too high for my big head. I am actually looking at getting a different buttstock that isn't so high and has adjustability. I also have a SPUHR scope mount that I'll be adding with my new scope.
To have relevant comparison, you should have shot (5-shot group is sufficient) those ammo using the OEM stock. Then use that to compare to the Spectre shot groups. It's only meaningful at that point.
Good video. Do you have an updates on how your NRL22 journey is going? How is the chassis working out in improving your accuracy? Have you upgraded the trigger and barrel yet. Having a good match grade barrel is more important than a trigger. The barrel is number one part to spend the most money on. Wasting money buying good if the barrel can't deliver. Keep up the good work.
The new chassis has been great, it has improved the accuracy over the plastic stock for sure. I will have a new video coming out this weekend on some accessory additions and a better scope. I've been really busy and haven't had time to build, but 90% of the parts are in. New barrel has been ordered and I'm looking forward to it finally arriving and making a video.
I see a lot of people have a gap between the trigger guard and the grip. You appear to have a spacer in there. Did you manufacture that yourself or purchase it?
@@road2nrl22 im in Australia, I was lucky to get this one as they are all on backorder now,my kit was missing the castle nut for the buffer tube but I'm getting one machined up on a lathe today. Canada have just changed laws regarding exporting firearms and parts so who knows if and when MDT chassis will be available. The magpul accessories are really good quality too. 👌
I agree, hoping to replace the buttstock with the red XLR C-6, but they are having manufacturing delays. When I get that it should really pop. Worst case I might replace it with the MDT buttstocks, but it will take some adapters that I would prefer not to use over the XLR.
I see you didn't fire any fouling shots before each type of ammo change. Most good ammo has a coating on it and it requires the barrel to be seasoned with the coating on the rounds. So you should shoot a 5 shot fouling group before you shoot a 5 shot group.
Hey Donald, I can't link gun parts on RU-vid, but the chassis is created by Spectre Ballistics International. If you google their site you should see a drop down for 10/22. So far I'm still loving it, the receiver pin really holds it all together and prevents barrel droop. New video coming out soon with my KIDD trigger group and accessories.
@@Plainsimple67 some of us are too preoccupied with whether or not we can, to stop and think if we should. I think the 10/22 has the potential to go toe to toe with bolt guns out to 200 with the right parts. The question is it worth the cost? I already have a super cheap CZ455 purchased to see if I can do the same thing with it, it will be fun to compare one day.
So far yes, although I would have gotten a different buttstock to pair with it. I'm still waiting on the XLR C-6 to become available, and if it doesn't come soon I'll pickup an MDT buttstock.
Funny, I have the exact opposite tastes here for precision shooting. I just ordered a new butt stock for it, and I'm going to move this stock and buffer tube over to another rifle that could use an upgrade.
What is regular ammo? If you mean CCI Standard it's hard to come by up here, and doesn't shoot that well. It's also more expensive or similar to half of these.
