You may call Zero33 a band. But they're not....probably.
You will not find them fourth on the bill in a tastefully repurposed wheat factory, heads bent over earnest twelve strings. Their songs will not have the word 'BABY' in them.
They go nowhere singing in wry voices. They will not approximate the Blues. They are not looking to 'catch the eye.'
But live, they sound like New Order at The State in 1982, or Talking Heads at The Mudd Club.
There are loads of them, apparently. In the band. If it is a band.
The last time I looked there were song writers, graphic artists, producers, deal makers, photographers. I would call it a collective but, rightly, they would block my number and stop telling me where the rehearsals are.
It is the sound of a glorious and seductive off-kilter pop, a tower block groove and enough pretentious cultural appropriations for this year and the next.
It is the sound of sarcasm, fatal love, intellectual arguments, snug bedsits, champagne rooftops, quietly sulking, raging drinking, naughty alleyways and brutal city centres. It is the sound of Liverpool, of New York, of Roxy, of Japan, of LCD, of Foxx, of Lou, of David . . . . It is ZERO33
