Zeta First Lesson
I have been on the mom life kick for most of my recent videos, let's switch that up and get back to the homeschool life! Many of you know that my oldest moved up in several curriculum pieces at the start of the spring semester. One of those pieces is math. She zipped through Epsilon from @mathusee and is now moving into decimals and exponents in the Zeta level. I feel like an unofficial expert having now used most of the levels available from @DemmeLearningPage. I have taught Primer through now starting Zeta. Mad love to @timberdoodleco, who makes it so easy to level up and have exactly what I need when I need it for a smooth transition. I hope that this helps anyone who is looking for an easy-to-implement math program. I have links to this down below.

Did you have any big changes from one semester to the next?

We’ve been using Math U See since the beginning too. We finished early last spring so tried something else & decided to stick to other curriculum, but at the last minute my student asked to go back to Math u see. Since it was so last minute, I only opted for the online option. Folks. It’s amazing & so much cheaper!

I love the online resources! I did not realize you could use them as everything. This is a game changer! Thanks for sharing. I know many people are scared away by the cost, so this is huge news!

Do you still need the manipulatives?

We still use our first set. They do have them online in the digital toolbox if you'd prefer no physical blocks.

Hi Shanna! Quick question (or may not quick ha!) My son is about to complete Epsilon. He rarely used the fraction overlays. It could be because he already had experience with fractions. We used another math program, but we didn't want to go to the next level of that program because we both agreed that he needed more practice with fractions, which is why we decided to do Epsilon. We decided to go ahead and have him do Zeta. My question is: do you think the physical manipulative are absolutely necessary to successfully completing the level or can he get by with just using the Math U See manipulative app on his iPad? I know it's ultimately an opinion thing, but just wanted to get your thoughts on this. Thanks for the video!

I would think you could skip it. Worst case, you order it later. I think it's worth risking to save money and storage space. 🤷‍♀️ We haven't used the app, is it awesome?!?!

@@MakingEverydayMagic you're right. I think I'll just wait and see if he ends up absolutely needing them. Like you said, better to save money! The app is pretty neat and convenient. I will say, however, that I do see the benefits of using the physical manipulatives. He just didn't end up needed them as much because, as I mentioned, he already had exposure to the concept.

We love Math-U-See. My daughter started with Alpha. She is currently on Gamma. We use the digital pack. She watches the video lessons online . They have the best resources. When we need a little more practice, I use their worksheet generator. I can customize the number of problems by lessons and generate an answer worksheet. My daughter is an auditory learner and we find the "Math Facts Songs" useful. She loves the coloring skip counting pages that are included with the resources. It usually only takes us about 15 to 20 minutes for the lesson.

Thanks for sharing! I love to hear why people love the things they use because with so many different learning styles, this is the type of feedback that can help people make decisions.

About how long do you spend on math each day with this level of the program?
@MakingEverydayMagic
@MakingEverydayMagic Год назад
Average, probably 20 minutes. That includes the video and/or the sheets.
@sarahbennett7235
@sarahbennett7235 Год назад
@@MakingEverydayMagic crazy! We are spending about 10-15 minutes on video and then 30-45 minutes (because she is slower) on the lesson for TGTB level 5 and with Saxon 3 its teacher taught so we spend probably 20 minutes teaching and 10 doing worksheets. I'm not sure if I want to switch over now or wait- such a big decision. The 5th grader is currently working on fractions- adding, subtracting and multiplying
@MakingEverydayMagic
@MakingEverydayMagic Год назад
MUS is mastery based, so she likely wouldn't go straight over. I'm not sure if either of those programs are spiral or mastery, just a heads up.
@sarahbennett7235

@@MakingEverydayMagic thank you! I looked into it last night and I made the purchase. Both Saxon and TGTB are spiral but after talking it over with my husband he said if I can make her math experience better by switching just go for it :) We are also counting our days to Disney too- 17!!!! I told my husband if I could meet just one homeschool mom I would love to meet you we share a love of Disney, our girls are close in age and you have been an amazing resource when it comes to navigating secular homeschool! Thank you for all your help and encouragement I know these videos must take a ton of time to tmake!

There's so much awesome packed into this comment!!! Good for you for making the jump! Good for dad for recognizing his role and being the amazing support staff to you both! Yay for Disney! Come back and let me know your thoughts when you have them! Also, I have tons of videos here on how we actually use it, which is, of course, not the way they instruct. 😅 Unrelated, do you have any ideas to justify me buying a Figment popcorn bucket?🤣
