Below is a link to my latest video about this light and what has happened to it, my update on it's fate.

The Zhiyun Molus X100 light Pro kit, battery charging issues solved.
This kit has supplied with it a battery for use away from a power outlet and in the box it hasn't got any info on how to charge the battery nor has it got anyway of charging this battery, you need to purchase separately a PD rated charger or PD rated powerbank to charge the battery up.
The supplied power adapter only supplies power to the light itself, even with the battery attached, it will not supply power through to the battery.
Hope this info helps anyone who has purchased the X100 light in either the combo or the pro kit which has the battery in it.

Here's what pretty much all reviews of this light don't tell you, Zhiyun don't supply any way to charge the battery nor do they inform you about needing a PD charger to charge it AND they put poor quality cells in the battery pack AND/OR poor electronics in it. From all the comments below and my experience with it, the battery on my unit just died and won't charge up anymore, I just can't recommend this product at all unless you don't want or need the battery, then the light seems to work just fine with the power brick supplied in a studio setting but for portable work away from a mains power point it is useless. Video to follow soon. Thanks to all who have watched and/or commented.

@@carlossagot Thanks for your question, as for a recommendation well I don't have much experience with these sorts of lights as that one was my first purchase of a light like that. I just purchased a Newell Rangha LED light panel, nowhere near as bright but with enough power for what I need at the moment. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful but I have to buy my own gear for review or loan gear from my local camera shop from their 2nd hand dept. Cheers.

Thanks for your comment, It took 2 replacements before I came across the info in the online manual on Zhiyun's website. Hopefully this video helps anyone who purchases the light with the battery. Cheers.

Mine just died the again. Recharging it creates a buzzing sound. This was a warranty replacement unit too!

That's no good, especially that the unit was a warranty replacement that failed . The lights themselves are very good but they are let down by substandard batteries, what a shame. Thanks for your comment. Cheers.

Use a power bank I had two batteries die on me and because I bought them second hand they won't warranty them. Even though they're aesthetically pleasing you're better off just getting the power bank the outputs 100 Watts

Yes I see what you are saying, however when you buy the unit new with a dedicated battery it should work as it was intended to and you shouldn't have to rig up some other way of powering it just because Zhiyun hasn't supplied a decent battery. If I had purchased mine without the battery to save money then I probably would have done something similar. My battery died and so I took it back to the shop I got it from and got a 100% refund, I won't buy another Zhiyun product that has a battery in it, wouldn't trust them now. Cheers.

I had two batteries fail on me they told me wrong shipping info I had to pay double then had to pay for return shipping. I have soo many zhiyun products but sadly I too will never use zhiyun products again. Faulty product manufacturer

@@pictureworldphotography i mean these lights aren’t cheap just own up to the defect address a recall and have better customer service. I had a customer service rep reply to me with a 😢 emoji at the repair center. Imagine my disgust

@@LetDavisCook That's terrible, it reminds me of Nikon years ago with the oil on the shutter issue with the D600 that they didn't acknowledge for months until finally they admitted the problem then issued a recall notice for the D600 camera, bit late for some users though.

Thanx for the video and share man! One thing though - for the charging of battery you need a 30W rated power bank maximum, as the battery input is rated for 30W. This is from the Zhiyun website: "The max input power of the battery is 30W. X100 can work for 30min at 100W." What I am interested in, is if you have an usb-c connector on the light, and if so, can you use the power bank to power the light - without battery connected? I have a molus 60. I'm waiting for 4smarts power bank to test it, but apparently, it (molus 60) will work with powerbank, and will output maximum wattage what the powerbank gives it. For 100w+ power banks you have Anker or 4Smarts brands ...

I'm glad the video is helping people with the charging issue, as for using power banks to power the light, yes you can use them directly into the light without the supplied battery attached but they will only power up to the max that the power bank can supply eg: 16w power bank will power the light at up to 16w of power and so on. i have a problem with this battery . after 3 times use the battery was dead and wouldn't charge. replace with a new one and after 1 usage and battery has 3 bars left . i charged before i left to my event and when i went to use it it was dead. no lights came up on attery and plugged into charger PD and it wont't charge again and no lights go on. what is going on? @@pictureworldphotography

Nice video! Thanks! Can we avoid the battery and use a power bank connecting straight to the light producing 100Wt? Is there any power bank that has PD 100W? Do V-Mount batteries help? Thanks again.

Thanks, You can use a power bank to power the light, so whatever the powerbank is rated for then that will be the output of the light. 20w powerbank = 20w output on the light etc, yes you can buy 100w powerbanks not cheap though but they are available, not sure about using V mount batteries, if you have the correct connector, adapter I don't see why they wouldn't work. I bought this light after reading positive reviews, but on the very first day of using it, my reflector got burned and stuck to its mount. I sent it for repairs, and they claimed to have fixed the issue. However, when it came back, I attached it to the Bowens mount, and within 5 minutes, it burned my Bowens mount adapter as well.

That's not good to hear, I know they can get very hot, I've not had any issues with excess heat yet. Imagine what the 200W lights are like that they have now, probably cook your dinner, lol. Cheers.

yup my battery died yesterday and I have a shoot tonight... getting a cygnett power bank that has 100W pd and has 25000mah rather than the battery grip's 15600mah. For run and gun the grip would've been useful but now I'm getting someone to put the neck strap on and have the power bank in pocket. going through the warranty process now...

Thanks for making the video and raising awareness on this! Cause it’s included in a package the options aren’t that great. Like yeah I might get it repaired but what if it dies again. And I don’t want a full refund cause I wanna keep the light and the extras it came with besides the battery grip.

@pictureworldphotography an update from me. Went through the warranty process and the company that organised the replacement mentioned Zhiyun have changed their battery with a modified board so there shouldn’t be any more issues. From now on I’m taking a back up usb-c power bank.

Thanks for cool film. I can t understand one think. I see on battery is 2600 mAh but on manual instruction on product specifications is 15600 mAh. What is it?

Sorry but I don't have the light anymore, the battery died and I returned it for a full refund. I just don't trust the battery after so many comments about the battery issues with this light system.

Might be a dumb question but are you able to use a 140W external battery USB-C instead of a 100W?? assuming the light will only take what’s needed 100W Two batteries broke on me, got a job tomorrow.

I'm 100% sure on that, my power banks are only low power, well below the 100W the light needs. Sorry to hear about your batteries, seems to be rather common with these batteries failing. Cheers.

i have used 120wvxiaomi charger but its till taking more than 2 hours for 1 point of charge out of 4

Thanks for your comment, from what I've been able to gather from the internet that charger is especially made for Xiaomi phones and is not PD rated. This battery for the light requires a PD rated charger or powerbank to charge up faster. I can see that there will be a lot of people very annoyed at Zhiyun that they have to purchase a separate charger or powerbank just to charge this battery up, should have been included in the retail package. Sorry to hear that, it's happened to so many people including me, I'm still waiting to hear back from the shop I purchased it from. They are covered by warranty, I'm asking for a complete refund as I have no confidence in this product anymore. My light was working perfectly, fully charged then within 2 weeks it died completely and wouldn't charge back up. My only suggestion for your project is to use a power bank to power it if you can't access a power point. Hope this helps you in the short term until you can take it back to the shop you purchased it from and ask for a replacement or refund. Cheers.

There seems to be a lot of issues with this battery, so far so good with my battery, here's hoping it stays this way. Have you been in touch with the shop you purchased it from? that would be my 1st port of call to get it resolved, hope you get it fixed, 🤞

Yo compré 2 lámparas, las dos pilas se dañaron y arruinaron 3 cargadores originales, me enviaron una batería nueva, pero honestamente ya no tengo confianza ni siquiera de conectarla a la red eléctrica, creo que en cualquier momento arruinará todo.

my battery just died, 4 weeks after i bought it (used it 2 times), it started making a weird noise while charging and then, after just like 20-30 sec just died. Have a project tomorrow and now i wont be able to use it with battery

I'm sorry to hear that, there has been so many comments with similar stories that I hope Zhiyun hears about all these and does something to rectify the issue. My advice is to take it back to the reseller and get a refund and buy a different brand of light, I have no faith in this company now, what with my light battery dead now as well. PD charging of the battery while light is on?

Hi, thanks for your question. The only way to charge the battery is via the USB-C port on the battery, so by attaching the battery to the light you cannot charge the battery via the light unit. There is a USB-C port on the light unit so you can power the light but with the battery connected to the light unit there is no way to charge the battery. Otherwise I really like the light and plan to make some more videos showing what it is capable of. Hope that makes sense. Cheers.

This battery burned my PC. I tried to charge the battery via my PC and the battery returned the power to my PC. CPU and motherboard are dead. :(

Sorry to hear that, but I wouldn't have plugged it into my computer to charge, even if it could it would be extremely slow. You'll need a PD rated charger or PD rated powerbank to charge the battery, Zhiyun really dropped the ball on this one, they should have included a charger for the battery, they failed with that and not including any info in the box to say otherwise. @@MarijanStojanovic

I have taken my light back to the shop I purchased it from and they have sent it to there head office, I have informed them that I wish to have a refund as I have no faith in this product anymore after my battery died suddenly and all the comments on this video with many others experiencing the same issue, it's clearly a major fault with the batteries that the company needs to address. I think that the more people that have issues with the battery, if they take it back to the shop and ask for a refund then they will send them back to Zhiyun and they will be aware of how big the problem is. I really don't understand what you are showing at 4"00. You plug the battery, then plug the power, it powers the light and then you unplug and it powers the light. But why did you plug the battery here? It's not charging anyway. You could do that without plugging the battery. I'm confused

My point is that the power brick that came with the light does not charge the battery, no matter what you try. The only solution is to buy a PD rated charger or powerbank to charge the battery, something that they neglected to inform customers of at purchase. I have since returned my light to the shop I purchased it from for a full refund as the battery died, couldn't charge it at all and that's the whole reason why I purchased it in the first place so I could use it outside without plugging it in to the mains supply.

The light is very bright even on 1%, but could be used for your purposes probably with a diffuser on it would be perfect, just be wary of the battery on these if you purchase it with the battery, I've had so many people comment about batteries dying which is what my one did, but if you power it from the mains supply it should be fine. Hi, thanks for your comment. My light won't charge with the supplied power brick no matter what I do, even with the latest firmware installed, does the battery light blink when you have the power brick plugged into it as my unit won't and I've had 2 other units to test and they all do the same thing, nothing seems to work but plugging a PD charger or PD powerbank into the battery itself as shown in the online manual. What comes in the box will be used as a charging cable, otherwise we will need to buy a USB-C cable at both ends.

As I have explained in this video, the supplied power brick does not charge the battery, it only powers the light while indoors, to charge the battery you will need a PD rated charger or power bank to charge the battery up separately from the light unit. This is something that was missing from the supplied paperwork in the retail box, my battery has since died and I have been given a full refund from the retailer I purchased it from. Cheers.

Wow, I didn't realise there where so many problems with this light, I hope you can get them replaced under warranty that is assuming that you still want to keep the light after these problems. Please keep me informed, I'd be very interested to know how Zhiyun handles these problems. Cheers.

That's no good, my advice would be to contact Zhiyun and ask what they will do about it as it only got released this year so will be covered under warranty. Also I checked on Zhiyuns website and it lists the battery as an accessory, also you can power the light with a PD rated powerbank should you have no luck with the company. Still it's not good that it has died on you already, you might just be unlucky and have a faulty unit. Hope you get this resolved, please let me know how you get on with that. Cheers.

Battery's are faulty and break easily. Buy charger i guess you mean standard usb c cable. Most people have few laying around. @@pictureworldphotography

Hi! I thought my battery was dead aswell. I have 2 of these and both batterys seemed dead. However putting it on a PD charger for a second it came back to life. Now it works fine.
