I like the G60, I love the X100. Personally, I think their designs lean more towards groundbreaking than gimmicky, but what do you think?

I do a lot of remote work at night. Portable lights have great appeal to me... especially ones capable of being powered with USB-C. I picked up a few of the G60's and they've been an enormously pleasant surprise. Even with older lower wattage power banks it's still possible to run the light at lower output. I did a test the other evening and at 10% output I could use a shoot-through umbrella for diffusion and still film myself at ISO 800... and that cheap little power bank ran for 4 hours. The absurdly small size and powering options solve big (and heavy) problems for me.

The USB-C power is definitely interesting for two reasons. One is what you mentioned, in that you can use a really small power bank to use them at lower powers. Two, is that many v-mount batteries have USB ports now, so they can easy power these lights without need a v-mount adapter built into the light.

Can you test Yidoblo zc-100, looks Like same light but much cheaper?

I'd be happy to test it out if they felt like sending me one. The NP-F slot is interesting, even if I'm not a huge fan of what is basically a copycat design.

I have the x100 The g 60 and the 40 watt light. Getting the 200 watt light next but I prefer mobile lights

No wonder you're a fan of the Zhiyun stuff then! They make some crazy bright lights at small sizes.

what about the inaccurate color at 10-15% power on molus x100?
@NewLayer
@NewLayer 10 месяцев назад
The majority of lights have major CCT, tint, and even color accuracy shifts at different powers. Adding a softbox can change the CCT by 500K or more easily, or the tint by 1.0 or even 2.0, so I think overall, color accuracy is overrated. As long as it's "pretty good" as a baseline, you'll be totally fine as long as you set your white balance/tint before shooting.

Another great review! I'm trying to decide between the Zhiyun Molus G60 and the Aputure P60x for a battery powered "run & gun" light. I can get a 100w PD powerbank for the G60 or a V-mount/pair of MPF batteries for the P60x. Not sure which would be lighter, but the G60/power bank might have better weight distribution. I already have a few Amaran lights, so I'm leaning (no pun intended) towards the P60x with its side mounted batteries. Which do you think would be a better setup?
@NewLayer
@NewLayer 9 месяцев назад
I would always vote against a panel for "run & gun" stuff. The P60x is not particularly lightweight, especially compared to the G60, but that really depends on your particular workflow. The build in battery support and fact you have other Amaran lights is compelling as well. I'm sure you'll make the best choice! :)

after watching videos on these I think the x100 is the one I'd prefer. However, I feel like once these are RGB they would be evern more valuble options.

Same thoughts here. I like the G60, but I love the X100. I have no doubt Zhiyun will release RGB COB lights soon!

If they ever come with a colour version, it'll be a no-brainer for me to quit Aperture for these.

For sure. I like the G60, I love the X100. It'd be great to use handheld and move from space to space or take outside on adventures.

What are the intentions of this light aside from the “tin can size” portability thing. What I'm trying to ask is Godox brought ML60, Aputure brought 60D to be an actual replacement of light with added functionality - portability. Does this fall on those line too? Does it serve as key light first then portability is a great add on or portability is first & then fill light or rim light would be good use... That sort of thing...
@NewLayer
@NewLayer Год назад
All, all three of the lights (Zhiyun Molus G60, Godox ML60Bi, and Aputure 60x) all have the same brightness/color accuracy, so they can all be used to light the same scenes. Each one has its own benefits too. The G60 has USB-C power, so you can use it with a tiny power bank if needed, and the light itself is smaller than anything else out there. It also has the globe diffuser and mini softbox, options, which I think are cool. The ML60Bi has a battery handle that supports NP-F batteries. The 60x has a battery/battery plate mount as well, and is a native Bowens mount. The X100 is obviously even more different/more portable, and more powerful, so it just depends on your priorities :)

do you recommend x100 for product or food photography? great video.. new sub here❤️
@NewLayer

For sure. It's plenty bright as far as continuous lights go, and very portable. So you can take it with you, and use it handheld for accent lighting much easier than traditional lights.

Great video! Will you be doing comparison between the small 60w lights?
@NewLayer
@NewLayer Год назад
Probably not because there's so many now, some of which I used to have, but no longer do. It's really hard to collect and hold on to so much gear for comparisons, so I focus mostly on dedicated reviews. Hopefully they'll help you :) I'm happy to answer any specific questions you might have.

Did you test the light output with the softbox vs. the dome diffuser? I wonder which one is brighter? Asking before I purchase the dome. Thanks!
@NewLayer
@NewLayer Год назад
I did not specifically test them, although when filming B-roll stuff, the exposure I used was nearly identical so there didn't seem to be any significant difference. I know that's not a technical answer, but I hope it helps!

Great review as usual! I do product videography and i own an amaran 60D, 2 Nanlite pavotube 15C II, I am looking to add a bright COB light, Bicolor for verstaility and that can handle large modifiers, the 60D is not bright enough, especially when i shoot 4k60 or 1080p120, I must bump the ISO to 4000 on my S5 to get a correct exposure! what light would you get in this case? I have the amaran 200X and nanlite FS300B in mind, are they great options? otherwise can you please recommend me one? thank you very much for any kind of help
@NewLayer
@NewLayer Год назад
Thanks! Since the X100 is bi-color, it's pretty much identical in brightness to a 60 watt single-color light. Jumping to a 200 watt bi-color light will only get you around 2/3 a stop more brightness, while a 300 watt bi-color light will be about 1 full stop brighter, so I would recommend something in the 300 watt range for bi-color lights. The Aputure 300x is hard to beat, but there's also the Nanlite FS300B or Godox SL300Bi on the more budget end. Aputure 300x: geni.us/aputure300x Nanlite FS-300B: geni.us/nanlitefs300b Godox SL300II Bi: geni.us/godoxsl300iibi

@@tomaszbejnarowicz Haha, you have to remember this light is 100W! If you try and run a 100 watt light with a similarly sized v-mount, you'll get the same run time, and this is infinitely more compact. You probably wouldn't need to use this light at more than 25% or so in most cases, in which case you'll get closer to 2 hours of runtime, if that helps.

@@NewLayer ah allright! i will buy one of these for sure. i want to ask you what light power i need for imitate sun or someting like that, 500w or higher? cause this 100w i will use to interviews and something like that
@NewLayer
@NewLayer Год назад
@@tomaszbejnarowicz To imitate the sun, you don't necessarily need a super high powered light. To use a light WITH the sun, you would need at least a 300 watt light. With the reflector on the X100 or G60, it will create very bright, hard light, just like the sun, so either would work for that as long as you adjust your camera settings to get the right exposure. Either of these lights with the reflector could be used on a cloudy day to create fake, direct sunlight. Hope that helps :)
