I can only imagine that it was either incredibly fun, or incredibly infuriating animating Zig Zag's walk.

I know you can't tell from the video resolution but I absolutely adore how the items that fell out of the Cobbler's pockets line up with them spilling out in next scene. I know that this was hellish work, but I appreciate it existing so much.

Thanks! It was hard work, but not hellish. And worth it for the great result. Glad you noticed!

@@asteuartw I heard stories from animators whose shots never ended up in the final product about Richard's standards, but man, are they absolutely met here. I could probably gush about all the tiny details in these scenes alone, it's just a real shame fans don't have a higher quality master for the movie

Yes....many years ago, back in 1990. Some of the animation was roughed out by Art Babbitt in the 1980's, so I was both animator and assistant animator on this sequence.

It’s fairly complicated, but that DOES pretty much sum it up. He would waste outrageous amounts of time, outrageous amounts of money (investors money), throw away footage, lie to investors about progress, etc, Like, literally, his team would complete 15 minutes of animation, color and all, and then he would just decide he didn’t like the scene any more, and scrap it (literally scrap it, as in, destroy it all so it could never be used). The man was a great artist, no doubt, but he had no business throwing around other people’s money.

It's a bit different working on a big movie; everyone is pushing you hard to do your best work. The process is collegiate and iterative. Lots of sweat and tears along the way.

@shai_zeta
@shai_zeta 4 месяца назад
