Print it yourself at oskarvandeventer.nl/Print-It-.... Read more at twistypuzzles.com/forum/viewt... Ziggustretch is a binary puzzle, inspired by Bram Cohen's Ziggurat puzzle. It has exactly the same number of moves, as it can be considered a wrapped-around version of it. The puzzle is "binary", as the number of moves doubles with every extra piece added. The shape was proposed by Zachery Zieper, who wanted a telescopic puzzle based on Bram's design.

I think the coolest gift would be a fisherman’s “stretching” “meter” - when the fisherman talks about his catch, the size of the fish increases from story to story. So this puzzle can easily increase, but at the same time remains rigid, as if nothing had happened. You can also design it in the shape of a fish or fishing rod. Or for a motorist as a jack. For a musician, trombone or accordion. For the doctor... uh... well, we're skipping that. A policeman's wand. And for a child, a pyramid or a tower! 🙂 THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂

A plant or a tree would fit the theme. The Louie theme is awesome!

Glad there weren’t any issues with thermal runaway with your thermister being yanked out. But love the final results! The dogs are really cute. I’d love to see a really really really long one! Great video and lots of fun as always!

What would make a nice theme for this stretch puzzle? Only Non-NSFW responses, please!

I actually like your screwy Louie name, Screwy means screw but also weird or crazy. There are other interpretations that are possible puns one might consider NSFW, but then so is maybe 20% of English. I'll try and come up with something else as well.

What about an ice pop? They tend to have some colorful layers, and I imagine there wouldn't be too much to physically modify from your original design.

a snake themed one could be cute. maybe the puzzle could even include some curved segments (not nescacarily functional, idk if thatd be possible) to make it look more serpentine, which would also make turning the puzzle pretty fun id imagine.

Those steering wheel locking mechanisms involve a stretched state as the "locked" state - maybe this could become a puzzle where you have to unlock a steering wheel by un-stretching the ziggustretch? The rotation of the steering wheel could also come into play as a puzzle element

Maybe Mr Plastic/ Mr Fantastic? The DC Comics Stretchy dude? Another thing I was thinking of is the stretchy caterpillar where you could even have a pattern on the caterpillar that is made visible when you have solved it.

Efteling's Longneck, perhaps. I also like the other comment saying Galileo's telescope (or just any telescope).

What a fun concept. What program are you designing the parts before printing?

Would it be possible to design a Zigguring puzzle? Where the solved state is a larger expanded ring or perhaps a ring that has been bent out-of-plane? I think the answer might be no because of the inherent endianess in the binary-counter based design.

If you make branching connector parts then you can build a stretchy binary tree or a plumbing network. Or make the parts conical and you can have a stretchy segmented carrot. Or how about a giraffe with a looooong neck?

Don't get me wrong... these designs are beautiful!!! Kudos!!! But... Is it only me? 'Binary' puzzles, much like those 'japanese boxes' with 256+ repeatitive movements are soooo boring... I mean, once you get the basic movement sequence figured out, it's just 'apply, rinse, repeat'... Maybe it's a profitable niche, in the puzzle industry, but I don't think it's adding anything to the 'great scheme of things'. #IMHO

The appeal of a binary puzzle is similar to solving a Rubik's Cube for the 100th time, or solving yet another Sudoku puzzle. In all of these, one needs to study and see how this particular puzzle works. And one needs to remain concentrated while solving. Some binary puzzles have dead ends or loops, so there could be multiple solution paths or wrong moves. But even those with only a single path can create confusion. If you lost track of the solution directly, you could accidentally start moving backward. It takes intellectual effort to determine which move takes you forward. Hence my saying "one can get lost in a Belgian maze". I own many binary puzzles, where I admire the mechanism and figure out how to solve it. But indeed, the actual solving is only interesting to repeat Rubik's and Sudoku solvers ...
