I climb with the Sulky Zugoi 330. I've only been in the profession for a year so I try to use the handsaw for as much as possible. The extra length of the 330mm blade even makes bigger branches (4-6") manageable 🎉
@chtclimbing
@chtclimbing Год назад
Definitely good to have practice with the handsaw. It’s an absolute must know skill that goes under the rug. Have you used both? For example when negative rigging a top, using the chainsaw to notch and start the back cut but finishing the back cut with the handsaw?

Thanks, I enjoy kicking back and enjoying your vids. Good energy, calm cool vibe. Clicked on this one bc I have a zigzag but no rope with an eye, was looking for someone using a knot, like you do here. The one thing I heard somewhere was possibility of knot catching the zigzag links and accidentally pushing down to release the rope....I have nowhere near the experience to know if that's much of a possibility, but figure if I tie a Fig8 loop knot long enough the knot would be a few inches away from the links and hopefully fix any small risk of accidentally loosening rope, as well as maybe being out of the way so it's easier to work the zigzag w/o rubbing against the knot.
@chtclimbing
@chtclimbing 2 года назад
That works pretty good. Those people are correct. But it’ll catch the links in different situations. Idk if it’ll catch the links to the extent of sending you for a ride. The other thing you’ll hear people say is you must make termination knots and stay away from loop knots when using the zigzag. I would stick to the loop and making sure that the knot is only a few inches away from the chain links.

This is a concept of practice. For instance, I also revert to the rope wrench every now and then to practice oldschool style. The plus side of it is that it allows one to appreciate their newer tools.

Why not move the prusik on the friction saver around and use the small ring. Then just a simple double overhand would would pass through the biner effortlessly and catch

I didn’t have the retrieval ball. And using a knot for retrieval with this rope means that it might be too big to pass through the bigger ring. Know what I mean?

Hey man. I’ve been debating on weather or not to buy (my #1) the Rope runner pro, but there’s not too many videos with it and not so much positive feedback I guess. Which would you recommend, RRP, or Zigzag W/ chicane (my #2)?
@chtclimbing
@chtclimbing 4 года назад
I don’t think I could recommend one over the other. They are both good pieces of kit. Both can be used in in SRT and DRT. Except when using the zigzag for SRT you need the chicane. This makes it the most expensive SRT setup that is available. When using the RRp for DRT, the friction bollard needs to be readjusted because you’ll have turtle like descents.

@@BCHAPPELL76 I know im late yes, zigzag will work with the ropewrench, I think any double leg tether should work, or you can get the zagwrench tether, or reon rounds tether

Forget the hip thrusts...and pulling up on the rope. Use a foot and knee ascender. Effortless
@chtclimbing
@chtclimbing 4 года назад
Yeah your right about that. It’s always about the challenge/workout for me.
@TheToolnut
@TheToolnut 4 года назад
A foot and or knee ascender wouldn't be necessary in that tree as it had multiple branches which were close enough together to make stage climbing it pretty simple. Foot and knee ascenders come into their own when one has to make long ascents away from the main stem of the tree.
@chtclimbing
@chtclimbing 4 года назад
TheToolnut yeah I agree with what you’re saying.
@TheToolnut
@TheToolnut 4 года назад
You are overly reliant on your systems when stage climbing. You are throwing your line too far ahead of yourself. Now that said you made those shots after a few attempts but if you had climbed up into the next crotch with your lanyard your throw would have been shorter and easier to make first time. Do you follow me?? I was taught to "climb the tree" don't get too fixated on your systems. I hope that makes sense, 👍😁🌲🇮🇪
@chtclimbing
@chtclimbing 4 года назад
TheToolnut yeah that makes sense.
@chtclimbing
@chtclimbing 4 года назад
TheToolnut I am not sure what you mean by over reliance. In my mind you use the tools you have to aid you in a climb. Those tools are to be leveraged to your advantage.
@TheToolnut
@TheToolnut 4 года назад
@@chtclimbing There were times during that climb where you could have reached up with your arms and pulled yourself up and stood in the next crotch thereby shortening your next throw with your climbing line. You can climb with a lanyard as well it's not just to hold you in position whilst you make a throw. Do you understand me?
@chtclimbing
@chtclimbing 4 года назад
TheToolnut I would have to disagree with you on that one. Granted I don’t live in the desert but it’s hot out here. Then climbing all day. That’s just not my way of climbing. Either way I don’t think your wrong but I think you have loads of energy.
@TheToolnut
@TheToolnut 4 года назад
@@chtclimbing Just climb the tree like we all did when we were young. You've got the arms for it. If you can climb up with your lanyard into the next crotch then do it. Shorten those throws, it's away less effort and frustration in the long run, 👍😁🌲🇮🇪
