In this Zihuatanejo Mexico travel guide we show you around one of the best kept secrets in Guerrero Mexico. In this travel video we explore La Ropa as well as the principal beach area. We also take a boat around the bay and explore the central area of town. The two hotels we stayed at while in Zihuatanejo were Hotel Irma and The Hotel Mexicana. Zihuatanejo was established as a fishing village popularized by The Shawshank Redemption but now a days it's considered one of Mexicos finest beach towns. There is another nearby Mexican beach town called Ixtapa.

I lived on La Ropa Beach in a hammock for 2 Months 48 years ago !! I was 19 years old and was traveling the country alone! Best experience of my life!

My wife and I have been going to this area for the last 9 years, we love it there so much we bought a pre-construction condo at the Sotavento. The best part of Zihau is the local people, so proud of their town and such hard workers. This is something that is missing from our broken society in BC. We hope that zihau stays like it is forever.

Thank you for the comment. Have you found in your travels that it is a fairly safe area? U.S. government advisories on avoiding Guerrero make me nervous, but it looks like a truly remarkable corner of the world.

Many people learned of it from Shawshank Redemption but the beach scene in the movie was actually filmed in US Virgin Islands and not in Mexico.

What a great video Island Hopper I really enjoyed it. My wife and I stayed in Zihuatanejo in the 90`s for two weeks. I see Zihuatanejo has come a long way from then. My favourite beach near Zihuatanejo is Playa Blanca which has a beautiful rock formation on the beach which I climbed to the top. I hope you will go to Playa Blanca and make another video there .

Great video. This is the kind of content I enjoy on RU-vid where it's not overproduced but where it's enjoyable to watch. In future videos if you could explain some of the pricing for meals and other things a little bit more it would be great to get an understanding of how all these places compare for a travel budget or for wanting to move to one of these spots. Keep up the great work.

Going 6-9-22 for 11 days. It'll be our 5th trip to Zihua. Absolutely love it. My wife has family there. This time staying at a hotel on the malecon beachfront. Great video, by the way we were there mid December 2021 also. Good times! Might retire early in Zihua.

I have been in Zihua for 6 months, done a lot of fishing, partying, and relaxing! It's a great place with very friendly people. Somedays it is just a little too hot for me...this humidity is killer ! However, it does beat the snow!

I have been there and XTapa twice that meat market is ruff smelling. Know your butcher. Fresh fish daily in the am from the guys fishing at night. 100$ a person on a panga all day tuna durado and sailfish you can’t beat that. Tip the guides well for sure. Donate some of your meat and the guy who runs his lidless of pangas also owns a restaurant on the beach. He cooked up the fish enough to feed our 6 guests. Ultra nice people. Best tip/gift is cash and the just released costa Del Mar glasses from the US.

Nice video, but there are a few things to clarify: there is Zihuatanejo beach and the Marina, then Playa Madera where Irma hotel is located, then PLaya La Ropa, and finally Las Gatas (beautiful snorkeling beach). I also went last december, for 2 weeks, actually i go every Christmas and New years for the last 13 years. The most beautiful virgin beaches are Troncones and La Saladita, 20 min away. Also La Isla has amazing beaches. Unfortunatelly Ziha is too polluted and crowded. Also there are everyday free baby turtles releases during hollidays on every major beach at 6-6:30 pm. Lots of stuff you missed, also Ixtapa beach is one of Mexico´s finest beach.

Lets put it like this. I would say its safe. If, you go from airport with licensed registered taxi, to your hotel, in the day time, walk around the main tourist areas. I would say you will feel safe. If you venture out into the hills or dark alleyways. Probably not safe. I have not heard of any violence really along the beach areas or tourist areas..

A little confused you are staying at hotel Irma ,then you say you woke up that morning and found out that the Hotel you are staying at is full.So that's why you are looking around for another place .If you are all ready staying at hotel Irma what does the Hotel have to do with it getting full if you are all ready there.That was a nice condo ,but i don't know about $310.000 USD for a 1 bedroom seems a little steep .But compared to US prices it's a steal.enjoyed the video thanks .

We stayed Hotel Irma the first night on Friday. But the next day was Saturday I went the front desk to ask for another night but they were all sold out, so we moved to the other hotel.
