@okonks Mkonks Fact check. Without going into detail it was Bishop Muzorewa and Lt Gen Walls who agreed to the ceasefire and subsequent elections. Thatcher facilitated it. Mugabe had to be dragged kicking and screaming by Samora Machel.
@@tightcamper Lt Gen Walls phoned Tatcher and asked her what to do, if the UK would have supported a coup, but when she said "No" Wells saw himself forced to accept the reality of majority rule.
Nyerere fought so hard for the independence of many countries in Africa, but now most such countries have completely forgotten the sacrifice of Tanzanians.
I left New York City in 2004 FOREVER. I was born in Flatbush Brooklyn and lived in Williamsburg houses then moved to Staten Island and then to Jamaica QUEENS and then I left the United States and bought a farm in Puerto Rico and on Fiji.
This was the time when our collective intelligence was at its highest. We need to get back to this level of collective intellectual community and forcefulness
Thank you very much Late President Julius Nyerere for your contribution on Zimbabwe’s Independence. I pray for Africa to embrace the Biblical principles which will help Africans to behave decently and respect its leaders hence will live with each other in peace and harmony.
President Nyerere was not only intelligent and charismatic leader, but he was an amazing handsome man. With his beautiful eyes, he was able to communicate sensitive issues without sounding arrogant. We miss you so much mwalimu. RIP.
What a master. He speaks with authority while displaying outstanding possession of knowledge. I like his poise and composition. He was simply brilliant & genius. Rest in peace mwalimu
That's one of the major problems we experience here in Southern Africa. Lots of orators but very few can deliver on their promises. For the record I'm an African & not White
And fighter.....cause all that time he was training all the rebels....from south africa, angola, namibia, mozambique, congo(read che in africa),zimbabwe to be precise then supply cuban weapons
Abu Bilal Good but to install Mugabe who killed thousands of people in Ndebele region and dictater Mseveni of Uganda are these whites who killed the number of blacks in their own countries whom we supported ? leaders
@Narciso de Almeida And yet you pathetic poroguese people flock in droves to Angola and Mozambique to find jobs. Not to mention you get bailed out my africans not to mention your high-end stores are all visited by rich africans. Portugal is together with greece and france the most pathetic of all western european countries.
@@theturkanabus3610 Most Kenyan will always utter such nonsense about Nyerere to them he was a thorn in their flesh he scared a living daylights out of some Kenyans, the TurkanaBus being among them.
@@amoslukyaa5792 Nyerere scares Kenyans? Nyerere was jealous of Kenya that's why he wanted an East African federation. After Kenyatta refused to a union between the three countries, Nyerere became bitter and started calling Kenyans nyangau. Even today Tanzanians are jealous of Kenyans, they harass Kenyans openly (eg. Auctioning maasai cows) but when Kenyans harass Tanzanians (jaguar wanted Tanzanians kicked out of a market in Nairobi) CCM throws tantrums. Nyerere did many good things but let's not pretend he was a saint
One of the greatest minds to have ever walked upon this planet. To stand in the shower and clarity of NYERERE DOCTRINE, be it in politics, economics and human dignity, one realises at once how a great privilege it is that such quality was born in africa. Subliminal wisdom. Amani ya Bwana, Mwalimu.
Nyerere was very articulate in explaining and defending whatever he stood for - bad or good. Time will come back when Africa will get these kinds of leaders again.
Let me tell you that Tanzania (Tanganyika)is a great Contry where good Leaders can come from!Have a look; now we have another Nyerere:!! That is the H.E.Presedent John Pombe Joseph Magufuli. He is a genius Leader in Tanzania may be the first in the whole of Africa Continent. May God R.I.P.our first President i.e The Late Julius Nyerere.
Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere Peerless Leader of Africa and World Statesman... A man of integrity, humanist and honest politician. Brilliant orator and the most consistent African Leader of the 20th century.
"We must radicalize Afrika" -Mwalimu Nyerere. It's this radicalization that's yet to be fully realized upto-date in Afrikan minds and it's necessary for true self-determination and freedom in all it's forms including Economic Freedom (EFF). He was such a visionary and strategic.
Like u will never see again ,we miss u ,u leave Africa with peace and freedom, u fight hard and harder ,stronger ,mover infronter ,Continue to rest in peace Mwl jk nyerere
@@JesseAkabwogi you are right but his Majesty was greater than those that were crucified before him. I our founding father's had listen to Nkrumah in forming one Africa, we would have been talking of something greater than this
Mw.Nyerere, Lumumba,Dr.Nkrumah,Thomas Sakkara,& Samorah Michael, They're my best 5 list of ant-colonialist leaders(I'm hobble to say its my own opinion.)May be that's why Western media doesn't want talk much about their good work. Mwalimu new how to play the game with them. Tanzania got her Independent in 1961, but to Mwalimu it was meaningless if Angola, Namibia, South Africa, Mozambique,& Zimbabwe, we're still under colonialism. R.I.P to all African Heroes.
Absolutely right, just to add, immediately upon independence in 1961, mwalimu welcomed Nelson Mandela in 1962 where he provided moral and material support to all freedom fighters, Tanzania was headquarters of al freedom fighter parties from ANC, FRELIMO, SWAPO, MPLA,PAC
What a great son of Africa.Thank you Mwalimu and the Tanzanians for your unwavering support in liberating our country Zimbabwe and other African countries.
🇹🇿🇹🇿🇹🇿🇹🇿 I wonder why my fellow Africans doesn’t acknowledge Mwalimu Julius. Kambarage Nyerere. He deserves more respect more than MANDELA but ooh well as Tanzanian we respect him that enough “TENDA WEMA ,NENDA ZAKO, USINGOJE SHUKURANI”.
Acknowledgment??, Let's stop our pride, we Tanzanians, we have also got many faults, after all this is not the return which Nyerere expected from his dids.
Mr. Nyerere has so much to teach black people throughout the Diaspora. All black people throughout the world should study this man, his life, and his struggle, along with the struggle of his people.
Sadly new Africa isn’t as radicalized as he expected. The unrest is now caused by her own children. We should not archive speeches like these rather put them more on display to instill the spirit of nationalism then maybe just maybe we might change. It hurts to see that we have successfully belittled to ourselves and these great giants must be rolling restlessly in their graves
Our Beloved Honored Patriotic Hardworking Honest President and Activist for the Liberation of Afrika His Excellency Mwalimu Nyerere ♥️🌻🇹🇿👍🏾👊🏾💪🏾 You will always be ALIVE through the righteous Patriotic Hardworking Honest Presidents like President Magufuli ♥️🌻🇹🇿👍🏾👊🏾💪🏾 Redicalization was and is necessary to get equality and economical independence from other countries. THERE IS NO INDEPENDENCE WITHOUT ECONOMICAL INDEPENDENCE.
I have listen to this great man again and again . Without a doubt he is the greatest son of Africa. Telling the Americans (Dr Kissinger) ur wrong .. we are going to radicalize Africa.. u just have to love him, bold enough to tell off anybody.
Some words of wisdom from one outstanding ancestor; I apply his philosophy of equality wherever I go. #Respect to Julius Nyerere and All the Pan African freedom fighters of equality and justice.
And what if he was? In today´s world he could change nothing, he would be invited to hold conferences, given good money and then "Bye bye, old Julius" and that´s it!
Nakukosa sana mwalimu.... "The have no future in Africa if they are to build racial societies here " "The majority of that minority does not want majority rule"... I can listen to you all day long.
The most intelligent leader I ever seen. Gave so much, helped other nations in Africa get their freedom. Now many have forgotten such sacrifices. we need more leaders like this one in Africa! pumzika baba... Mungu ailaze roho yako mahali pema peponi...
I clearly remember when he came to visit a city where i used to leave in the north of Tanzania 1978 I was 9 years old at the time coming from school. I remember he stood on his Land Rover with his short stick under his left arm giving speech. Time flies very fast...
“If you are going to equate radicalization with ‘anti-west,’ then you are in trouble.” We have such a lack of wise people today. People who knew how to get their point across in a way that was nearly indisputable - and if you did dispute it, there was an 80% chance that you’d end up arguing for the *same* point and looking like a fool for not realizing it. I miss interviews that allowed for such long answers. And I miss politicians that could give them.
This interviewers great does anybody know his name? And how refreshing to here pure heartfelt political ideology without the ulterior motives or orwellian doublespeak. 'I think he is wrong. We are going to radicalize Africa! I love it
DPM This interviewer's name is JONATHAN DIMBLEBY, son of a great , distinguished interviewer , RICHARD DIMBLEBY, who worked for the BBC all his working life.
Former President Julius Nyerere is historically remembered for his significant role he played in ousting one of Africa's tyrannical leader Idi Amin from power. A movement that gave birth to democracy in Uganda. And finally for adhering to the norm of democracy by relinquishing power when his constitutional tenure in office was over.
This video is from 1976, the year I was born. 4 years later, Zimbabwe became independent. Nyerere told Mugabe, "You have inherited a jewel, keep it that way." One thing that distinguishes Nyerere from that generation of leaders is that he was man enough to admit that his socialist policies were not producing the expected results, and he paved the way for free market reforms. I had the privilege of seeing him in person when he visited Zimbabwe and toured the Harare Agricultural Show.
Nyerere only reluctantly surrendered to the WB and IMF pressure, and stepped down so that some one else implement the reforms recommend by the institution. Now we know how bad those 1980s & 1990s reforms were for us, and there has been many efforts to reverse them in the last 20 years. For example, healthcare was free and it was stopped, the bad concequences for the ordinary people. Now a lot is slowly being done as preparation for universal health coverage.
@@vikitu4793 free healthcare is always bound to stop, even in the wealthy countries of the first world. The IMF's advice was to shift Tanzania towards wealth creation and as a result income has risen (according to the stats).
@@MasimbaMusodza We now have the advantage of hindsight, we know it did not work, a number of things have been done contrary to their recommendations to great success. By the time the Chinese came, we were just heavily indebted by the IMF & WB with nothing to show for it. The Chinese came with more money and none of those crippling conditionalities. That is the source of current prosperity. Well, free healthcare does not have always have to stop. You can just google "countries with free healthcare" to start with. We have been having free healthcare schemes for the low income household, and universal health coverage scheme is in the works. After we realized the treachery of institutions, we made many such u-turns. Tanzania Social Action Fund (TASAF) has been operating for 20 years providing grants for poor household to increase their incomes, contrary to WB and IMF recommendations.
I have watched this interview more than twice, all because I find Mwalimu very frank, knowledgeable and an authority on the subject before hand. This for me passes for a PhD thesis.
This was a time when African leaders were visionary of a stable country ,sub-region and continent. Currently ,the same style of colonial divide and rule is used by the current crop of leaders. I lived in Tanzania for a long time in the early 2000s.Nyerere left a positive legacy and conduct among Tanzanians.
Unfortunately no one left who appreciate your role, all goes to the late madiba ofcoz its right but it left Tanzania somehow less developed, and the neighbors now lough at us forgetting our resources went that side and only you at a larger scale did that,I remember your works and envy them Mr president , rest in peace.
