Hey Dan, great video as always! I have questions. @1:19 when you said "we only gel out these primers and then we add the topcoat and do a full cure". So my understanding of this statement is: •you only bake the primer until it flows out, • then let it cool to room temperature, •then you apply topcoat, • then bake until topcoat flow out + full timed baking cure. Is that exactly what you meant? @2:02 when you begin explaining the purpose of zinc rich primer, you say the zinc being electrically active protects the metal substructure by corroding itself before the base metal otherwise would. But you only mentioned "steel". Were you initially meaning to say it protects every metal? Or does zinc rich primer only protect steel with its special properties and nothing else My rims are aluminum! •Lastly, (I am DIY) I bought standard gray primer. What are the pros and cons of normal gray primer versus nifty zinc primer or other types also.

You might have missed a few details in the video, some primers are good for aluminum and some good for steel. Get is when the powder flows, and by only doing that the top coat will stick really well to it. But yes your outline is spot on of what I was getting at.

@@RightNowPowderCoating Prismatic powders Instruction states 5 min in the oven at 400 degrees, I understand on how the process is,normally is but 5 min is to me a little less time than a normal time for a powder to flow out !! can i get your opinion on what prismatic states on the instructions, or just wait till it flows out like i normally before i base coat an item !!

Question. So I live in Vermont up past NY and our winters are harsh and salt. - Should I insist on primer for snow rims? - Should I insist primer on summer rims? - zinc primer go on aluminum and steel rims?

I'm in iowa, very similar, we only prime steel wheels, epoxy primer on aluminum if we have to.

what type of coasters do you use for your Rack ? If those are heat resistance, where would be a good place to get them ? also have you changed them in any way due to being in the oven so many times...great video instructions and your special techniques you show everyone from right way to the don't do it way lol

Zinc rich primers are best used for part that gets a load of direct impact contact like a bobcat bucket. Its designed to stop the rust creeping from the scratch. Use a standard primer load cheaper. I truly think zinc rich is overly told it’s the best

I tried getting hold of American powder coatings Inc. they have the zinc primer but you have to buy 55 pounds of it. Do you know where I can get smaller quantities

How would you say this compares to combustion-wire metalizing? We use zinc wire in our shop, but a powder based alternative seems really convenient.

Sorry I just want to make sure I’m understanding this. You suggest zinc primer on all steel winter and non winter rims. Aluminum rims you suggest epoxy primer for winter rims and what about summer rims? I know I can zinc and epoxy summer steel and aluminum rims but do they need it?

I’m restoring a 1968 Torino and want to powder coat pulleys headlight fixtures is it necessary to zinc prime this being it’s only gonna get wet occasionally

Primers are used to help prevent corrosion and also can be used a a thin filler, so unless those are concerns I'd say your good to skip it.

What setting are you using on the Gema for recoat? Since it's recommended to leave the KV at 100-110. Do you drop the KV or just the microamps?

We use the recoat button on the unit, ua goes to 22

What settings would you recommend for Super Chrome 2 or something similar? I've been using PCC mode 100kv and 8-10 microamps and the powders cures well but not sure if the settings are right because then for the 2nd coat, let's say it's a transparent or a clear, how much would I have to drop the microamps?

What is your kv ua setup when you coat over a zinc primer ?

unless you have a gema it really wont help you much to know, we never drop kv from 100, ua is adjusted based on the gun detection but usually at 100 or 22 ua
