i think it was damien lillard who said it best: none of these players are prioritizing basketball. it's just the way the league has become unfortunately. but what do they expect? the NBA has been consistently handing out egregious contracts to kids who just got drafted and havent even sat on the bench for a single game, let alone played any minutes. college kids declaring eligibility for the draft should be excited at the opportunity to play basketball at the national level. but then when they get drafted, they're acting like they already made it and are living large. they did nothing to earn the money, so of course it has no value to them. it's the same kind of mentality why 95% of lottery winners file for bankruptcy within 5 years. they didnt know what they were doing when they had none, theyre not gonna magically figure it out when they have it all. granted, that's not everybody. for every zion williamson and ben simmons, there is a jamal murray and a jason tatum. these guys havent fumbled the ball and are actually trying to produce for their teams. sure tatum might not be as good as everyone wanted him to be, but at least he's got his head on his shoulders, stayed relatively out of negative media, and is doing his best for the celtics. murray went down with injuries and was so scared of being cut or traded, that when they gave him a second chance, he made the most of it and is on track to win a championship for the nuggets.
