The difference between the S and SE it is the thru axle size, S model 12 mm and SE 13.5 mm, I have an addict 2022 and I'm looking for the zipp 303SE wheelset, do you have one available?

303se probably cheaper with their own hubs. Kinda like the made for BMC dtswiss arc 1650 that are the same as the dtswiss arc 1100 except the the 1650 have 370 hub instead of the 180 and the spokes are probably a standard spokes on the 1650.

Amazing how easily the 303s hub body pops off unexpectedly when removing the wheel from the bike. Be careful not to pull on the cassette!

With these SE wheels on Scott bikes with these hubs I guess this frees up some of the Zipp hubs for the 303S and maybe helps Scott get a slightly better price point.

IIRC the SE version is a 'rim only' vs a Zipp Built wheel...in other words Zipp sells the rim to Scott, they have it built with whatever hub/spoke/freehub they want.

Keep an eye out on those electra townies, we sell lots of them but the new ones come with no name freewheels and sometimes they stop engaging and you can't pedal the bike forward

So... I have this wheelset and after some research, figured out that this is a Formula hub that takes a FH-536 hub body. It's basically a more budget-friendly (cheap) alternative (compared to DT-Swiss or Mavic). Formula is Taiwanese company that brands like Scott and Cannondale (among others) use to keep costs down. They basically pair a recognized brand (like ZIPP) with their shiny rim graphics to an unknown hub that has been branded with their company logo (Syncros). Trying to find a SRAM XDR hub body for this wheelset (so that I can use it on another bike) was a pain, but I did find that Rose bikes uses this same hub, and I was able to order an XDR hub body for around 50 euros + shipping. Cannondale was selling the same hub for around 70 euros ! So, a little research saved me some $$$ :)

hahah thanks so much it is a struggle right now to be a brick and mortor store and retail in 2021 with amazon and all these direct to consumer shit going on but it is something i enjoy working on and i get to work with friends and go to work in a tshirt and talk how I want and able to goof off.... no lie a lot of fun but like any job in this world there are always stressful moments that make u want to quit somedays lol.... but thanks so much adn I really enjoy it

It’s probably a proprietary wheel made for Scott by Zipp. I had the same issue with my old Cannondale Synapse, which had a specific wheelset, with a freehub body for the Mavic Ksyrium’s that came on it. Had to call Mavic and they looked up the wheelset based on the serial number, and were able to send me the correct freehub body.

DT Swiss do something similar to this when they supply OEM wheels to bike manufacturers, it can be an identical wheel and they just change the number, I actually had a set of DT Swiss PRC1450 Spline wheels, it turns out they were produced just for Focus bikes but were identical to PRC1400 Spline wheels which are listed on their website, perhaps Zipp are doing something similar 🤔

My guess is the the E stands for Economy, allowing the bike manufacturer to offer a Zipp wheel with a cheaper hub to keep the price lower. It wouldn’t surprise me if these only come on complete bikes and won’t be available to buy on their own.

DT Swiss does the same. Got my Canyon with the E1850 Wheelset, which is exactly the same a the E1800. It is done similar with the C and P series. They just add 50 to the number so it has a different name.

GC, you answered why. SE = different hubs and spokes. Special Edition. But your larger question as to why? Whenever things don't make sense and this applies to many things at the consumer level, it always comes back to the same thing. Somebody, someplace in in the supply chain is standing on a nickel. Part of it is fake marketing aka create market diversity i.e. create the 'perception' of better...SE better than S because afterall, SE has one more letter. Its always about cost and profit. In a blind comparison, there is likely nothing between the SE and S wheels, rims are the same of course except for the decal. PS. this is nothing knew btw. Fulcrum has bike brand specific wheels with different hubs too. They are numbered differently than what is available from Campy/Fulcrum.

I think the ride would be a great idea. End at the shop and cook out and let people come in a buy stuff with a 10 percent GC Performance discount if they go on the ride. I think you will have a big turn out. Do it every year and I think it will really grow and you can let the people know about your channel. Or a 5 percent on bike maintenance.

I have been giving Zipp hell for not releasing clincher 454s. Is the 303S tubeless only? I wanted to buy a new set of Zipp but none of their newer wheels are clinchers. Maybe SE are for clincher compatible?

The 303s are tubeless but I had a gash on my rear tire and stuck a tube in there 800 miles ago with no issues, also kept the same low tire pressure.

Thank you for making this video. I have a pair of 303S and today at my local bike shop I saw the same Scott with the SE. Like yourself, it got me wondering what's the difference. Still in Feb 2022 there is no information in the Zipp website whatsoever. This is how I found your channel. Have you got any update on this? My impression is that the "S" model is available direct to consumer, while the SEs are OEM, for bike manufactures only. Maybe the non-Zipp hub helps keeping the price even lower. Does it make sense?

it is ahookless rim same as the s but the hookless rims can be ran with some tubes in there if the rim allows it but must be ran with a tubeless ready tire

Syncros say they're their own hubs, but the hubs are identical to Formula hubs, in-so-much, the parts are interchangeable. I've read it in some Syncros literature the rims are by DT Swiss.

I've found it difficult to find syncros exploded diagrams, but stripping the hubs down, they're identical to Formula hubs, and there are online retailers in the UK who are selling Formula freehub replacement kits for Syncros Capitol wheels.

If you take your wheels to an authorized dealer they can have the rims drilled, or sent in to be drilled, for free. I haven't had any issues with mine after they drilled the drainage holes. May be worth looking into.

I run hookless on the road and I'll never go back. Hookless allows for a stronger, lighter, more structurally sound wheel, yet they're cheaper because they're easier to produce. I'm 190lbs and I run 28mm pirelli pzero tl tires on 23mm internal hookless rims at 63/65psi. Lower pressure is faster. More comfortable. And I don't have to deal with flats. I honestly can't understand why anybody wouldn't use tubeless or hookless.

@@HolmsOnBikes fine, run them if you like. You do realise the only thing holding them on the rim is unstretchable fibres in the tyre sidewalls. (Why the limit on pressure). To new a technology for me to jump in yet.

I don’t know guys why you like DT Swiss hubs. They are loud AF. Whole neighborhood in famous Rickenbacker causeway Miami calling police and snitch on big groups of cyclist, they can’t sleep anymore in the morning 🤠☺️😄

lmao I just enjoy them but i mean you can make them quiet with grease or you dont need that much engagment.... it is all preference at the end of the day

I don't understand why it is so easy for you and everyone else to remove the tire from the rim. I had a flat recently and it took me at least 15 minutes to get just one side of the frigging tire off so I could remove the tube. You just slid the tire lever around the rim and it came off as easy as could be. I also broke one of my tire levers putting it back on. Terrible.
