Nice review. Zombicide is a sandbox game, which means that you can very easily add rules from Zombicide Black Plague, Invader, or the new Second Edition and make your First Edition feel even more streamlined. What is crazy is that CMON is still making missions for this game. The lastest mission A37 Zombie Mutation came out on Feb 14, 2020. Also, you failed to mention that CMON provides a map editor to allow you to create your own missions.
I am amazed at how many copies and versions of this game I see for sale at used board games events! Enjoy your channel very much, one of the most honest channels out there.
I've just bought Night of the Living Dead. I love the movie, and thought it might be fun to actually play in that world. I've played the core game, and the Black Plague, with friends. You are spot on about how bad the core set is, compared with the trays of later sets. The little plastic markers are also looser, and sometimes come off. One thing that I don't like about the game is how many pages of rules there are. Usually 38. That's fine if you are looking for a game that is more complex, but I hate playing it at a mate's who hasn't read them all first. You all then spend most of your time trying to work out how to do everything. It's also not a great game to play with people who try to tell other players in a co-op game what they should do. I have a friend with ADHD who does this. Putting that aside, the game is a lot of fun. Especially when driving cars around.
We haven’t played any Zombicide other than the original. We blew a truck load of cash of that and couldn’t justify the cost on another set. God knows how much we’d have spent had we carried on buying everything. There’s now 5 iterations of it. It definitely changed the landscape and opened the gate for the horde (pun intended) of KS mini laiden games we now have.
Literally just picked up classic Zombicide only to play the Ghostbusters minis. Trying to decide if I should pickup Toxic City Mall and Prison Break since it seems most of the extra scenarios use their map tiles.
That targeting system you mentioned is very easy to rearrange. My friends and I play so that when you roll to hit, if the roll is 1 it is a kind of fumble and that means you hit a player in the field .... everything else (2 and more) is a miss or you hit a zombie. If you have a weapon for which two dice are thrown and on one of the dice you roll one and on another you score hit, it means you hit both the player and the zombie and they both receive DMG (maybe the bullet went through a zombie, a ricochet or something third... use your imagination :-)) I also incorporated the AIM shot rule: Player can spend two actions in his move to declare an aim shot and choose which zombie to shoot in the zone. If he roll more dice for that weapon (say 2) and both dice hit, the damage adds up. That way you slightly increased the number of weapons with which you can kill an abomination. Aim shot cannot be done if player standing in a zone with one or more zombies. There is also a rule I came up with that say that a shotgun can't do aim shot (due to weapon spread) but if you find a shot gun choke upgrade and put on a shotgun, that upgrade gives you the option to use an AIM shot with the shotgun as well. I like Zombicida because the rules are modular and you can make almost perfect mechani. Anyway thanks for the video.
I allow spending an action shouting "duck". All survivors in the target zone duck and will this not be hit by friendly fire. Otherwise survivors aren't targeted first, any misses hit them.
Loved the review! You got a sub from me :) As someone who has none of the zombicide games and wants to start with the family, what would you recommend? Should I go straight to the space one? Or is there a combo you recommend that you enjoy the most? Keep up the great work! 😊
We prefer the original simply because of the theme and the massive amount of missions. The later versions seemed to just rehash the rule set on a retheme with some modifications for balance. There’s no reason why you can use the later rules for targeting etc with the original version. It’s simply a matter of taste and what theme you prefer at the end of the day 👍🏻
@@BoardGameBollocks Awesome! Will be aiming to get the original then! I like the overall theme better, was worried that I would be missing on some great upgrades in the later releases. Thank you for clarifying! Will be watching your Channel regularly! :)
@@BoardGameBollocks Volume 1 & 2 have gone in and out of print several times over the years, but if you're able to find them at a reasonable price then they're worth picking up. Both volumes take the replayability of Zombicide beyond any other board game that I can think of.
I made a print and play version of Black Plague as I couldn’t find a copy when it was first released. There’s too many versions of it now though. It’s amusing seeing them push even more extreme versions of it each year.
