Detailed look at my chopped and highly customized 07 Nightster.
There is a detailed overview of the build project with lots of pictures and a step-by-step description on the HD Forum titled "Nightster Winter Makeover".
www.hdforums.co...
*NEW*
On August 9th, 2016, I had a photo shoot with professional photographer Dino Petrocelli . You will find several pictures from that shoot on the last page of the Nightster Winter Makeover thread on the HD Forum noted above.

seriously man. that's a ton of work you did. this is the best chopped up Sportster i've seen. the internal wiring and custom bars...ridiculous! i'm searching for ideas on my Iron and stumble on to this and it made me cry. great job, Ergon!

that is one of the finest nightsters I've seen until now... especially the blacked out engine and covers are really great. some sort of real good mix between old school and modern custom. You did an amazing job there.

Thanks. You're right, welding was a critical component in this build. To do the frame work and fabricate things like handle bars, while making it all structurally sound and clean looking takes a very skilled welder. Ozzie at Variant Fabrication is a real craftsman and an artist with all kinds of welding. I was lucky to have him doing that work for me.

Thanks man. The bars were a complex project - built from scratch to accomodate internal wiring, internal throttle, the incorporation of the dummy lights, bar end mirror and the bar end signals. Not to mention getting them in the right position for me to be comfortable AND achieve the look I wanted. Getting the wires for the bar end signal on the right through the internal throttle mechanism inside the right grip was an engineering challenge. Ozzie at Variant Fabrication did an amazing job.

It is low, and I really like it. The front of the seat is mounted to the original seat/fuel tank mounting point on the frame with a bracket bolted to the bottom of the seat. The rear is supported by two hard rubber furniture tips/feet that are bolted to the two studs under the rear of the seat that rest on the frame. It's all in the HD forum thread

The Blackout is great. Good performance, great sound and zero problems with it. Didn't tune the bike at all. I have ViED's from nightrider installed to richen the fuel mixture and it runs great. If you don't change the AC I think you can run the blackout exhaust without a problem. If you change both the exhaust and the AC you'll at least want the XiED or ViED to richen the fuel mixture. A lot of people run tuners but I find my bike runs great the way it is. Good luck.

Robert, I purchased a wide glide kit from Motorway Engineering in New Hampshire along with their adaptor kit for a 16" wheel. Bought a 16x3" wheel off of ebay, new bearings, new tire. That's pretty much all there is to it, aside from some minor machining to get the axle and spacers to fit. Used the stock forks.

WOW!!!! very well done!! i totally dig on how you integrated the idiot lights into the bars and your buttons into the clamps! pretty freakin slick man! this is the only bike i've seen it done on! sorry, i might have to steal your idea! I LIKE IT THAT MUCH! i don't know what else i could possibly say...moving the coil looked good, the ignition as well... your bike is an 11 out of 10 man! the only thing i'd change is the exhaust and paint scheme. i'd go black and green (my favorite colors) and V&H staggered short shots (i just really dig that particular set of pipes). rock on man. ride safe and enjoy the hell out of that sweet ride.

My son in law took the original rear gas tank mount, cut off and discarded when we remounted the tank, and used it to create a seat mount that bolts onto the old tank mounting point just in front of the seat behind the tank. Then I used some rubber furniture leg tips bolted to the rear of the seat as supports that sit directly on the frame. Very solid set up and pretty comfortable. If you scan through the HD Forum thread referenced above you'll find a detailed description of how we did it.

I love it, tis the best work on a nightster seen so far. I am putting the wide glide and blackout on my iron too. Correct me if I am wrong, this is something I spotted, your front tire looks like it's fitted the wrong way around. The cuts should push the water away from the center of the tire...imo the way it is fitted kinda causes the water on the street to flow towards the center of the tire and you don't want that. The rear one is fitted correctly

I used billet aluminum knurled grips from Speed Dealer Customs and they work great with the bar end signals. I also installed an internal throttle inside the right grip and a bar end mirror between the grip and the signal on the left, so we had to ditch the standard Oberon mounting process and craft a totally new mount on each side. The standard collets that come with the signals for mounting inside the bar ends should work fine for yours.
@Ergon2228
@Ergon2228 11 лет назад
Hi man, thanks. No, the wide glide triple clamps simply replaced the stock narrow glide. We chopped the frame to add the rake. I got the triple clamps from Motorway Engineering/Vulcan in New Hampshire. Google them. They make raked fork cups that might give you enough rake without chopping. I think it's 3 degrees. Good luck with it.

Thanks Boston. As for value, I don't know man. From a monetary perspective it's only worth what someone is willing to pay (if I wanted to sell it, which I don't). Maybe there's someone out there willing to pay $20k for it, or maybe I couldn't find a buyer at $10k (which is about what I have into it). Who knows? Doesn't really matter. I built if for me, with no plan or intention to sell it. The value for me is having a bike I really love to ride. In that respect it's priceless :)

nice ride there buddy... loving the paint scheme.. and the zombie-apocalypse on the tank... nice touch. one quick question... when you put on the wide glide triple trees..did that give you a rake extension without chopping the frame up..or did you have to chop the frame to get the extended rake? i want to put the wide glide front end on my fxdb for the rake alone but really dont want to get into chopping the frame.

I assume any standard size grip would be fine to use. The sigs attach to the inside of the bars, not to the grips themselves,but you'll have to drill out the end of the grips to run the wires through. I used billet aluminum knurled grips from Speed Dealer Customs. I like them but they're not for everyone. Rubber grips will work fine. Make sure whatever bars you get are drilled for internal wiring. Good luck!

When you chopped the rear fender did it have the taillight cut tout in the back? I picked up a sportster with a mudguard "fender" and I'm looking to stick a stock fender back on, but I would like to cut off the taillight hole. Looking at a used 92 fender for my 12.
@Ergon2228
@Ergon2228 8 лет назад
Most of the Sportster models have different fender/tail light set ups. My bike was a Nightster and the tail light for the Nightster are the rear turn signals. So there was no tail light hole on the fender when I cut it.
