Zone 2 setup for the Onkyo receiver TX-RZ840. The TX RZ740 is similar so the same may apply. Other Onkyo receivers from the past few years may share similar settings. Many Integra receivers share the dashboard as well.
The video includes turning the power on and off with the receiver controls and remote. Adjusting the volume. Not the exact solution, personally just had to turn on zone 2/3 from the TV like you did. Saved my sanity, was on the literal verge of giving up. Thanks a million!!!

thanks a million. Onkyo TX-NR6050 manual never indicated to go into the main menu to configure Zone 2 to on. racked my brains until I saw your video. Now I can listen to patio speakers for my Fathers Day Bbcue.

Thank you so much for this video. It worked for my new Onkyo TX-NR6050. I too was trying to use the stream box to my zone 2. Once I simply switchws the HDMI cable from my Roku to the Cable\SAT it worked.

Got delivered today the Onkyo TX-NR7100......meeeeeen cannot get no audio from Zone 2 period. I have my streaming device hook to Analog audio input, and the of course the Zone two has the speakers cable plugged in, but sound at all. I did followed your steps with negative results. I am so frustrated with that receiver that I am on the verge of returning it. Used to have the Onkyo TX-SR876 which died week ago and this one supposed to be "upgrade". The only upgrade I see is the trash can LOL Tried everything and I just hit a wall. :-/ Glad you figured yours.

Sometimes the old equipment was better! I liked my Old onkyo better i for get the model but it was like 135watts and had prologic 2 Z

HOLY CRAP. FIrst off. Great video and help. Secondly What the hell. Ive tried everything apparantly other than the first three inputs. Ive been using the stream input for Apple TV. I actually havent made the change yet but irregardless Onkyo engineers must of had a rough happy hour the night before they made this decision.

Thanks for this. Only the first three input sources killed me. I too was attempting to test using input 4 (stream box). Quick swap to the bd/dvd worked. Infuriating.

I own an about 22-year-old Onkyo Integra TX-DS838. at that time around 1999, this was the flagship Onkyo ( while Circuit City was still in business ), and just bought a Crown 2-channel amp. first. there is no matter how many videos I watched. and reading the owner's manual. did not help activate pre-out zone 2. your receiver is much newer than mine. this Onkyo receiver does not have an HDMI cable output or input. Only optical input or coaxial digital input.so I can't hook up my receiver to the TV. this receiver does not have Bluetooth or ethernet input. it's a shame that such a super great receiver. right now it's hooked up to my TV with an optical cable. It's the only option I have . if I can't get it resolved I'll buy the Onkyo RZ50.

It tried everything I could, and still no zone 2 on my Onkyo TX-NR696, so frustrating as no one seems to be able to help me. Why did they make such a simple task so complex I wonder.

more important is how to change input and vollume on the phone app. I dont want to bother walking indoors when in the garden. So after seeing all this i will not use my zonde 2 and just spend 50 more for bluetooth speakers... horrid experience.

i dont think i will ever buy another onkyo. onkyo sound keeps cutting out and then i have unplug it and hope it was sound sometimes it does sometimes it doesnt what a peice of crap

I have the Onkyo tx-rz50 and every input work for zone two ......EXCEPT the input I bought this receiver for... TV......the tv input WILL NOT work for zone two NO MATTER WHAT I DO....... I'm about to throw this receiver out the window of the fifth floor!!!!!!!

OMG thank you for this comment because I’ve always had Onkyo receivers but I’ve always wanted to seamlessly play music throughout the house from a app.. I was looking to upgrade my receiver and get a RZ-50 but I think I’m going to get a Denon x3800h with HEOS because I’ll be able to play music throughout the house without having to goto my receiver to switch zones and control the volume..
