I've heard the might reach the ceiling thing before but I don't think that's helpful since the stalactites might reach the floor. I prefer the G and C acrostics for Ceiling and Ground in stalaGmites and stalaCtites much better. I've used this type of memory aid to remember the difference between mooRhens and coots. Coots have white beaks because mooRhens have R in the name for Red beaks.
one tour guide once told me that stalactites hold tight to the ceiling and that stalagmites stood _mighty on the ground,_ and she always said that in like a deep booming voice. I always thought there had to be a better pneumonia but to be honest it has stuck in my head for the last nearly thirty years so it might be do dumb it works.
In my case it has turned into reflex. 10 minutes of Zak talking into my ear, and I'm already sleeping. Problem for the times when I actually want to watch and learn 😅😂
It looks like so much food in this area but not a lot of long term food, except the bear. Your map learning skill is impressive as always. Meanwhile, I still get lost in pleasant valley whenever there is no road. 3:15:19 Gunslinger reflexes ! Wow
Same. I always get lost lol. Zak be like "oh there is that tree with a rock in front of it...i know where ii am there is a cabin over 4 hills and across 2 creeks from here" lol
Thanks for helping me fall asleep. 😉 I know you've said people like to watch your videos for this reason. I actually recently got some of the same comments about my videos. People are watching them to relax before bedtime. I thought about you when I read those comments.
You are welcome and thank you to you as well! PS: One or two of my upcoming videos were rendered before you joined, so if you dont see your name in the next video or so, thats why :)
@Zaknafein no worries brother im just glad I can help support the channel, it's well worth it to me I learn so much from your Instruction that I out survive alot of big time players.
1:40:12 ish there was coffee on the desk. This region is huge and meandering and tbh I kinda love it. I think there's at least one cave you haven't been to, it's near the region entrance. Great video, a fun holiday treat. 😊
I’m a Geologist and I still get mixed up with the difference between Stalagmites and Stalactites. And maybe these cave systems in TLD are old lava tubes 🤔
Fellow geologist here, although in some places I'd agree it looks like it could be old lava tubes, lava tube stalactites/mites don't really form like the ones shown in the game so my guess would definitely go towards them being erosional caves whose shape became altered due to potential glacial uplift.
@@rosefurball1509 Nice. That’s sounds more realistic. That area of northern Canada looks complex geologically in real life. Glacial influences are probably huge.
from second grade - when mites go up and the 'tites come down. I wanted to be a Geologist, with dreams of hanging out in Hawaii and playing with volcanoes, education took a different direction to engineering.
It actually worked out well on the part of the playthrough that lost game audio, since you were using lots of flares. The continuous hiss of those isn't the most pleasant audio experience.
Oooo, my difficulty of choice, glad you made this! Started a new playthrough and I've been working on my gear and equips before wandering in here. Cheers!
I might be wrong but I reckon the developers put the rope at the signal hill approach because of the bear cave - if the bear is out, the rope climb provides an escape route. Certainly worked for me on a couple of occasions.
The miner's gear all protect the outer layer. If you check you might notice the head, legs, and chest slots are also taking damage. But less quickly than the feet slot.
Lovely video as always! It's a great zone, I just completed buried echoes late last night, really enjoyed it, video will be posting soon. The melancholy ending seemed fitting. When I played through Signal Void I admit I didn't really feel the impact of the story so much, it just so vague it didn't really put a hook in me. But in Buried Echoes it was really nicely done IMO. Just being in the actual region where the team was finally, seeing the actual lab and the machine, it was really well done. I also thought the belt reward is useful/cool inclusion.
With the flask.... you can use one heated coffee to warm 7 others.... the trade off is you loose the time it stays hot.. because it is giving heat to warm the others... useful strategy when you have limited fire time...
Stalagtites hang down like tights, stalagmites are the oppasite and grow up from the floor, usually directly oppasite each other untill they connect together.
Hey Zak! During my playthrough I found a revolver at the top of the Head Frame Building. Its pretty well hidden behind a ladder in the corner! It looks like it's in the same place behind the ladder in your playthrough as well at around 1:54:16 . Pretty hard to spot! Anyway, thanks for the content Zak!
I am late to the party because I waited until I had time to make a new character and explore myself before watching. I explored the cave myself last night and then watched you explore it right afterwards and here is what I can't figure out: I drew a map of the cave as I explored, leaving a different object at each intersection, old-school text-adventure-style, so I'd know when I looped around and connected back... and I never found the exit to Forsaken Airfield. I've got a complete map here, with no unexplored tunnels marked, and nothing. Obviously I missed a tunnel somewhere. I guess I know what I'm doing later today.
it is/was a bug with the harvesting animation if you light a torch then harvest an animal the thorch will not deteriorate, so a torch will still be lit after hours of harvesting
Very Cool play through and exploration, you surprised me with the OK Corral reference much of the game reminds me of the mines in the western part of the US, in fact, the buildings in the mine area look a lot like a place you can visit in Colorado, called the Argo Mine, if you look it up you will see many of the same style buildings, and much like all the older buildings in the game they all look like the old west mining towns, like Tombstone.
1:11:00 yeah.. it is a bear cave.. on voyager and stalker i've had that bear enter the entrance to this cave while i was in the back.... no bones.. but he's always coming by this cave...
You did miss my favourite cave, just off the river. A bit east of the far-western cave. It has a bed, coal, and it's a bit more central than the other one.
Ive had this idea but i travel for work and rarely get to play so i haven't tested it. But if you get rabbits or Ptarmigan, then drop them as a decoy for a trailing wolf, tuen scare it away, you should be able to havest it after the wolf chews into it
Hi. Zak. It's a bear cave as far I know, and you can climb those rocks at least I did it once and I kill the bear in the cave. I was so wondering when the bear come back and surprise you😂
The gap between Stalker and Interloper is so vast... From extremely easy to extremely hard. It feels like there should have been a difficulty in between that combines the scarcity and wildlife lethality of Interloper with the availability of firearms and tools. Even though custom settings can offer a middle ground I'd prefer to have a legit difficulty choice rather than tinkering myself and I do not like the custom difficulty icon, it feels off.
Wow! Santa just came earlier this year. Thanks for this, Zak. Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones! Oh... 02:45:57 Flare Shells on the ground and at 02:20:31 if you go up that little ramp, there´s a Flare Gun and a lot of shells. On Voyager, I mean. And also, I have this doubt. Does Voyager has more wolves than Stalker? Because I found a lot, really, a lot of them. For example, when you were at the Trailer on the beginning, there were none. And I bumped on 3 wolves! 4 of them near the helicopter! And so on. Or maybe it´s because I am playing my main run (896 days) and Buried Echoes is active and therefore, the game itself makes it more challenging, adding more wolves?
I wonder if you can get your Well Fed bonus back immediately after the 72 hrs that it takes the chemical poisoning to resolve or if you need an additional 72 hours with no chemical poisoning to get Well Fed back?
Hey Zak, kind of a random thing i thought of, but when you make stews, like venison or rabbit or something, each bowl has collision, and they can be stacked and even walked on. Do you think it's possible to make stairs with that?
43:45 In english at least, we use stalagTites (T looking like a spike hanging from the ceiling) and stalagMites (M looking like spikes from the ground) to tell the two apart. I had to double take at that, I thought you were making a Norwegian joke, like you used the Norwegian trick to remember the difference on english words XD Edit: Dang it! Double checked and I didn't know that there was a C in stalactite. I always used the T and M method so I guess I was spelling it wrong this whole time. Now I feel silly that you know my language better than I do.
1:41:35 sometimes i didn’t understand your decisions… instead of dropping the canisters and the helmet you don’t need in this run, you dropped the hammer, wich really might help you in a wolf struggle…
bro @ 2:22:12 it was the same place and kinda obvious. i saw already when you first tried that you just didnt push tru/ wiggle ur way in. its often in this game like with heights too that you can make it, you just gotta be patient, its not odd and you could pass last time but you just didnt know, its not some bug or whatever. 2:45:57 you missed two flair gun bullets. You miss these types of things a lot. but thats the only feedback i can give, love ur run...
Merry Christmas! I noticed with harvesting, I can't cancel and get small pieces anymore. I was hoping to do that to cook a tiny piece in time to maintain well fed. Not sure if it was a glitch or if you find that too.
i love this but i’m about to start a drinking game: 1 shot every time he mentions his interloper run 1 shot every time he mentions/compares to other regions if i add anymore you’ll die of alcohol poisoning
Zak I've no idea what changed but in your latest videos your voice sounds like AI. It's all cut up and not natural or real sounding. Do investigate please. It's hard for me to fall asleep to AI Zak now. (pre-liked the video just so you know
