Zoo Tampa Africa
The African savanna at Zoo Tampa represents a vast horizon of grasses, scattered trees and shrubs and is home to animals both large and small. In the wild herbivores and carnivores share this landscape, competing for resources during both dry and rainy seasons.
First up on our trek and near the entrance to the pathway taking us into Africa we come across the habitat of the African Penguin.
Once we reach the safari village we will come across the zoo's resident Meerkat family consisting of four males. Past this we will find yards housing Radiated, Galapagos and Aldabra Tortoises. Next up is a mixed species exhibit housing Lowland Nyala, Bay Duiker and Southern Ground Hornbill. Right next door is the home of the Marabou Stork.
Masai Giraffes, Hartmann's Mountain Zebras, African Elephants, Nile Lechwe and Kenya Impala share the savanna habitat and mid-way through the walk around the savanna we will come across a aviary housing Silvery-Cheeked Hornbills and Chickens.
Rhino Reserve is home to 1 adult male, 2 young females and 3 adult female Southern White Rhinos.
Up the pathway we enter the forest and find the African Painted Dog, Pygmy Hippo, Shoebill Stork, Okapi and the Red River Hog.
Back in the village an aviary houses Cape Teal, Masked Lapwing, Violaceous Turaco, Yellow-necked Spurfowl, Javan Pond Heron, Von Der Decken's Hornbill, Trumpeter Hornbill and Blue Duiker.
Thank you for joining me on this trek through ZooTampa's Africa!
