Got thrown onto a recording gig and told to bring one of these with having little prior experience with field recorders (I’m mostly a studio guy). This video saved my life (and my paycheck), so thank you 🙏🏻
Unfortunately, a lot of the menu options, you just read the screen, and move on to the next thing, without describing what that feature means, and why we may or may not want to change it, such as the tracking knob settings, routing settings, etc. I can read the menu and don't need someone to read it to me: what I was looking for was an explanation of what they are, and reasons we may or may not want to use different configurations. :(
Batteries: Depends on the ampere (how much energy they got in them). I use 4x AA with 2500mAh ("eneloop pro") on my ZoomH6. Can record a whole concert with 6 mics. If you've 12 of these you can even charge the first 4 before the last ran out, easily. :) (4x2500=10.000mAh, the big pack you use should've only around 7850mAh) Important thing: Never use batteries from the supermarket :D They don't tell you their mAh for a reason ;)
Plugging in a microphone without pre-setting phantom power, totally ignorant fumbling in the finder menu, "Ambionic sonic" (?) and your made-up explanation of it, "AC adapters", not commenting the link and trim settings, the limiter on the OUTPUT (could be important), BACKUP settings instead of backup SETTINGS.... etc. etc. I'm sorry. You're clearly not familiar with the essentials of audio recorders. Please learn some basics and do your homework before trying to teach us on working with this device. I expected to learn all about using the F6. I'm wondering, why spending 600+ dollars on a device you're not "able" to work with 100%? For what it is worth: you have a friendly voice and the demonstration is given at a pleasant pace.
I took a change to view it again. OMG, viewers please do not watch this video with the purpose of learning something. You run a serious risk of being completely misled. This man has no idea what he is doing or what he is talking about.
Lmao. Its just a basic overview my guy. Speak for yourself. I am walking onto a set tomorrow that is using this (have never worked with this recorder before) and I got everything i needed out of this video. I will worry about advanced settings when I buy it for myself. And when i do I’ll just read the fuckin manual. Some people just need a simple walkthrough of how to operate it and all the major settings and this guy did a great job of that.
Heya! I'm trying to decide between the Zoom F6 and the Sound Devices Mix-Pre 3 II. One deciding factor for me is how robust and smooth the knobs feel. I've heard that the Zoom F6 might feel a bit cheaper when using the knobs, I was wondering what you thought about it and if it matters enough to choose the Mix-Pre over the Zoom? If the knobs seem fine then I might go with the ZOOM since I really hate the idea of getting an attachable NPF sled for the Mix-Pre.
@@GCHUSTLEHAWAII Mostly one-man film shoots. So I'll likely be using it with a boom, or as an audio interface. Nothing too complex, but if they are squished I wouldn't want it to slow down the work at all. But no sound mixing, I think if I did I would grab the ZOOM F control or something. I just need it to be functional for basic interviews and narrative following boom work.
@@williamsnyder4361 you should be fine then. I'm on the same boat as you and I dont have time to fiddle with the settings because I still have to worry about setting up the shot
thanks for this. can i use the zoom f6 or the mixpre-3 ii with the rode video mic pro + via the 3.5 jack? are there limitations to this quality wise compared to using a xlr shotgun mic? thanks so much for your thoughts.
At 10.12 you clearly present/demonstrate one of the most important features of this device (apart the 32bit float recording) which is the +6seconds PRErecording "safety" buffer (+6seconds at 48KHz or +3seconds at 96KHz ) , which is automatically being added to your recording time/file .... yet you say absolutely nothing !!!! over this , until your video gets to 25.47 .... where you just theoritically analize the exact same feature , because you read it on the menu settings. I think you should have put more effort educating/preparing yourself over this device and this video , in order to create such a long edit ..... which probably creates more questions , than answers. Nevertheless....thank you for puting the effort and time to explain as many things as you know.
@@INSTINCT777 I would prefer pushing on the level knob of the channel i want to monitor. But its doable. You can allso set up (i think 12) different Headphone mix settings where you can do a monitor for each channel or groups oc channels.
@@michael-wurzinger Thanks so much for the insight! Sounds ok. Sounddevice mix pre 3 can be set very easy though with just pushing the channel knob. That would be perfect but one can not expect everything :)
