Been playing for 45 years. The current fx units have reached a quality that just amazes me. I’ve owned equipment that cost in excess of £1k that couldn’t compete with this type of unit. The new generation of guitar players really do have it all now.

I started playing when the first pedal, the "Fuzz Tone" was invented and the Stones made it famous on "Satisfaction", so like 55 years ago. We could only DREAM about getting an amp that we could overload back then. LOL! It is truly amazing that the fun part of molecular physics known as Electronics has yielded such great, inexpensive, and ubiquitous toys for "the boy" inside all of we seriously aged men (and women of course... I may be old skool, but I ain't no fool)... LOL! I just bought one of these to fool around with while I build my line of axes.

Digital is so good now, this year's version of yet another "looming tube extinction panic", yawn, wouldn't bother me much, even if it were true. Because only Russia are able to make pieces of glass and suck the air out of them. 🤔

I bought the bass version for my son. I have been touring with bands for 20 years and I could’ve brought it to a gig and be perfectly happy. It really had everything I ever needed for any gig.

This pedal has been on my board for two years and it's not going anywhere. Since I mainly only use overdrive,verb,and delay. I keep this guy at the end of my board for modulation/looper pedal and it's great for that. Also awesome for silent practice with good headphones.

One thing I like about Zoom are that their guitar processors offer probably some of the most unusual effects out there. Why next to no one seems to use them mystifies me. Good demo. Nice custom git you've got. Cheers from Texas.

I have a zoom g1x previous model to this one. I love that thing. Great headphone amp and bedroom effects unit. Don't know how great it is to play in a band with though. It is really fun when you learn how to tweak and set up your own effects patches.

505ii - I agree. STILL a great pedal. Very basic by today's standards but REALLY easy to use for the creation of your own patches. These day's it's becoming collectable. I still have mine. I tend to stick with the less complex Zooms so of all the ones I've tried, the only other one that I've held onto is the really superb G2Nu. The Zoom 'Edit & Share software is also brilliant. Have you guessed? ... Like you, I'm a diehard Zoom fan. I'll have a look to see if you've also demonstrated the creation of your own patches with this new box. Thanks.

I have a G3, and am considering replacing it with the G1 four (hear me out). Partly because I'd like more space on my pedalboard, but mainly because it seems ZOOM have cut the G3 loose. Their Guitar Lab software doesn't support the G3, and the Edit&Share Mac app doesn't install on macOS Catalina (it fails with a useless error which basically says "contact ZOOM"). Weighing up: do I stick with the G3 (and do all my patch-editing on-board with no backups), or make space for the G1 four??

@@digitalramyun I got ride of my G3 because of that Edit& Share problem. I struggled for ages to make it work whilst, throughout, my G2Nu worked perfectly with it. I now stick with the G2 and also the earlier but utterly brilliant 505ii. Many modern FX units are like the keyboards with a thousand voices, every tweaking module you can think of and umpteen options which you never need. Learn to use the more basic equipment and push it as far as you can - that's always my attitude. Who needs rack-loads of overdrives, distortion, phaser, shimmer, delay, reverb units etc. etc. etc ad-bloody-infinitum to choose from? Choice is one thing, but unnecessary excess is another. FX manufacturers keep themselves in business by regularly unloading and hyping new units with a tweak here and a tweak there as if it's something radical and new. Same thing that Apple does with every new generation of the iPhone when they make it in a new colour or with a new option in its menu. Old can be gold and mostly everything else is icing on an already digested cake. (Now THERE's a mixed metaphor for you). Now I'll get off my soapbox.

@@alansturgess1324 Just after you replied, I remembered I have a ZOOM G1on in a drawer (bought on impulse in 2018, but I couldn't get my head round programming it). Officially, the USB port on the G10n is only for power and firmware upgrades, but - long story short - a third-party app, Tonelib Zoom, can create, edit, backup and restore patches on the G1on (but oddly, not the G3). TZ is available for Mac, Windows and Android - the latter works perfectly on my Chromebook, so I'm going to experiment with the G1on. If it doesn't work out: at least the G1 four only costs around £70...

the only difference from the older model i can see.....it seems there is an overall "lo-mid-hi" labeled knobs and also a volume......im assuming these are just overall 3 band EQ knobs when not in program mode?

Are you aware that all of the presets have cab sims on them? You're doubling up on the cabinet emulation by using the cab sim built into your amp.

Good point! What do you think of the amp modeling on this unit? I mostly use Fender cleans with a touch of reverb and sometimes some marshall amps with a bit of overdrive.

Question. So i am fully aware that the G1-Four is a guitar pedal, as well as the fact that they make a bass variation of this multi effect system.. but would this pedal work well or in the same way if i used it on my bass? What would any drawbacks entail?

I think one of the main differences is that with bass versions of pedals there are usually more options to introduce the dry signal into the mix...as in so you can blend in the dry signal of the bass to keep the lower frequencies...other than that there is probably not much of a difference

These Zoom products + the G3XN are really excellent......I use them without amp and cab sims....straight into my Katana 50, or my Amp1. Yes you can gig with them...The G3XN is very flexible with quick morphing between preset and Stomp modes. The G1 Four x needs more thought but for my simple gig needs a selection of self built presets works just fine. For context.....I also own a Tc nova, Tc G-System and a Helix LT........within Band mixes, the Zooms Do just fine 👍 thanks for your excellent work here.

I've just gotten one,it takes awhile to explore all the features and the instruction manual isn't that detailed. It's well worth the 106 dollars I paid for it,I can make my own little tunes and play along.p.s. that jb one is jeff Beck big block.

Cool, I've been waiting for this one. I like it, but I'm not entirely convinced that it's an upgrade to the G1Xon. Overall, these are great for beginners, people who want to try out multi-effects, and those like me, in small apartments.

I own both...Sound quality wise..it is definitely an upgrade...the G1xOn has an older sound chip so you definitely won't consider it as a better product imo

I wanted to post an update after using the Zoom for a couple of weeks. First, You need to learn how to save a preset. Second, If your not using a dedicated guitar amp, but are using headphones or a pa, you need to go thru all the emulated speaker cabinets and turn the mic on and SAVE IT! Otherwise you will wondering "what the #$%^" is going on every time you try something. Third, There is another volume in the Settings Patch Save. Use it to set your Patch volume after you have got your sound right. I found that I had to set my clean sounds to a volume of 120 while the distortion Patches needed to be sat at 20 to balance out the volume - big difference. It has a realistic tube modeling sound and that alone makes it worth it. But, you need to set the modeling amps gain to almost nothing to get a good clean sound. The JCM 800 amp model sounded just like a JCM 800 cranked up. I was impressed. But it wasn't easy to get a clean sound like a real one was.

It can be used with batteries or a normal 9V power adapter...I don’t think it comes with any cables...so you’d need a guitar cable to plug the guitar into it...and then you will either need headphones or another cable to plug it into a guitar amp or some kind of powered speakers

The Zoom g1 four has a great sound quality. I’ve got one. The only problem is the same for all multieffects with only two stomps. They haven’t got sound BANKS so we can confuse the next sound we want . Is it the following or the previous one? At the end I’ve changed it by a Boss GT-1. There is a third stomp (CTRL) where automatically you can get a similar sound for the solo without change the preset. 🤟🏻

yes it has cab simulations which work well with headphones or u can plug it into an audio interface

Forget the other guy's "yes it has cab simulations" technical shit. Just get a 1/4 inch to 3.5 mm headphone jack converter. (It's thick guitar cable jack like thing with a hole to insert your thin headphone jack). Insert converter in headphone input of zoom. Insert headphone into the converter's hole. That's all. Now you can raise a storm in silence.

Would it be possible to save a track containing drum+rhythm guitar+solo guitar and later on transfer it into a laptop? So my idea is to have this unit on the go, record my idea and then come into my bedroom studio and have something to work with. And if not possible what gear would you use for this purpose? It has to be compact, need drums, looper and some decent FX.

This pedal some phones and a boss rc3 loopstation pedal. Do it all the time. Will store up to 3 hours. Plug it into an interface later and record to daw. Using cakewalk bandlab. G1 four looper is only 30 sec with limited function. About 200 bucks for both pedals. Don't be lazy. Explore all the effects and amps. Wipe out a couple patches that are too busy to use for that. Rename things to make more sense. You can even use this in an effects loop on your mixer. Wipe out a bad patch. Set up just a compressor effect. Your ready to plug in a bass to record.

I do with the G1on pedal (similar). I use one bank for direct to PA and another bank through my Fender Champ. Basically you knock off the amp sim for the Champ.

@@patrickshannon4516 No. The pedal is not an amplifier. The Champ is a guitar amp and the PA is it's own amp.

@@patrickshannon4516 if u want to use the pedal with a 4x12 cab u need a poweramp, i use this g1x four (same zoom of the video but with a extra expression pedal) into a mooer baby bomb (poweramp) and that 2 pedals direct to my 2x12 cab, i can play with my band/live with this gear and it sound so amazing

It sure would...its a great beginners tool...you can use it into an amp or just using headphones...check out our two full videos of it they will explain a lot more

Ничего не понял, как же пользоваться лупером. Для этого, собственно, и покупал эту приставку. Объясните, пожалуйста мне, туповатому, так же тупо, что бы я понял, какую кнопку нажать, что включить-выключить в педали, что бы записать ритм, потом бас, потом риф и соло. Буду очень благодарен. В инструкции мало понятно. Все видео в Ютуб - малоинформационные, англоязычные. Все видео подразумевают, что человек (не я) сто лет уже играет на всяких видах гитар и приставках, и вскользь упоминают функцию зацикливания. Буду весьма признателен!!!!!

I'm very dissapointed with the sound. I can't complain tho , it's a 100 dollar multi effect pedal. This is a perfect beginner tool. But it doesn't really sound good to a fine tuned ear. But to be fair you'll spend 10x-15x as much on nice pedals individually.

@@TSFAHTPS do the firnware update on it first. It adds more fx to it (compressors, EQs, Exciters, synth stuff). BTW, I noticed you have a synth there (an Access if I'm not mistaken). Tell you what, the MS70CDR is perfect for synths. I use it more on synths than on guitar myself. It would be really cool if you could demonstrate the pedal via guitar, bass and synths. It has algorythms for bass as well but it serves ant kind of input pretty well. The synth comunity tends to see the ZOOM as a secret weapon of sorts, and I have to agree with the general concensus. It has some silly stuff in it, but the good stuff is really good.

We've been meaning to do more synth and drum machine stuff in our videos...sounds like a plan...I have an old Zoom rack...you can probably see it in the background...it's a 1204...I love using it with synth...there's a Moog M32 & DFAM out of shot that sound great running through the 1204

@@TSFAHTPS didn't notice it. I goofed with the zoom rack unit years ago. Also a TC G-Force. Amazing unit. Even the chorus on the Digitech 2112 sounds awesome on mono synths. Please do the synth thing. It's such a cool way of showing effects

2112 or 2120 is on the list of things I want to get...I did some opening act shows for a Canadian band called the Tea Party in late 90s and the guitarist in that band used a 2112 and the sounds he got were amazing...he kinda ran it as a wet/dry rig...made an impression on me!! We will do more synth videos...just been lazy!!

Every single tone sounds like garbage in this video because, like everyone else, there is no understanding of cabinet emulation and when it’s needed and not needed. Why is this so difficult for people to grasp?

All digital effects are shit (except Ax FX & kemper). Buying a cheap Zoom fx is better than buying expensive ones. What I wonder is, nobody ever took their time to spend time with any pedal before making a video. All the patches of every zoom product are total shit. You gotta make your own patches.

I don’t agree with you there...there are a lot of great digital effects! As for this video...we were asked to do a “first impressions” video...which is what that is - I just got it out of the box to see what it sounds like. We did a few more videos with this where we made our own patches...
