Zoom H3 VR A Big Joke ? 

I ‘almost’ didn’t buy this mic after this video .. but I went ahead and did .. like any tool it’s only as good as the user so some experience and experimentation and you can get good results

I felt your frustration towards Zoom and it made it difficult for me to really get into your review, lol. Still THANK YOU for giving the REAL, as we need more reviews like yours. Having said that, I work in audio post and I'm working on sound libraries that I'll be selling on my site. I'm not looking to record individual sounds as I'm aware of the quality I want for that, but so far, the environment sounds I wanted to capture (to create sound scape effects for content creators, filmmakers and the like), I was amazed at the quality. What really got me was the fact that I could export to 5.1. So I think it really depends on how you'll be using it. Would you agree? Something about the size gives me pause before placing it inside a kick drum, lol. But as a post pro, I really feel it's great for capturing environment sounds and for film. I was skeptical at first as well, but the onboard conversion for Ambisonics and the 5.1 export option really did it for me. I don't think I'd rank it a 5, but again, like you said, it depends on the application. Thanks for what you do! Definitely subscribing!

I purchased one do to the cost of other microphones capable of performing the same job. It is a recorder where-as other options are generally just the microphone and which cost a great deal more money. For sound gathering use a fuzzy wind screen which cuts some of the tininess of the sound quality and muffles any wind noise. Sound quality I would rate at a 7.5 of 10 for sfx ambience gathering. The onboard conversion function of the unit is a game changer for quick playback and transfer of the output signal. Warning: the unit isn't designed for recording high-volume sources as the microphone can be overdriven quite easily if you are not careful. There are much better mic'ing choices for high volume source recording.

Would this work well if you had other mics and you just wanted this as a room Mic? Basically blending direct sound of instruments and Voice and a DAW with this or would pretty much be pointless spacially speaking? I like this idea because I can do a solo show and literally just throw it in front of me somewhere and start playing the show. Seems like it would be less boring than just one regular camera

very useful for fast binaural audio production. Zoom its a cheap brand for independent producers or low budget projects, for the price its perfect. These product can capture very nice and balance audio from acoustic instruments but you need to learn mic location AND find a very nice location with nice acoustics. Dont put it near a massive loud sound source, its not designed for that.

What would you recommend for recording with ASMR?

Get a 360 camera to use with it and gather musicians around it. :-)

I find your video very confusing. You say that it is a bad mic, but you don't say what is bad about it.

I agree on how that vr is a joke. I have a shitty vr called utopia 360. I bought from Micro Center back at March for more than $5. ITs not that great, but I sometimes use an app called VR Movies 3D, so I can sleep some anime girls. Especiall Sailor Jupiter and boy those guys did a terrible job...at least, one day til I get Occulus Rift, so meet anime girls and video games girls for real. That's my lifelong ambition.
