I want to ask a diletant question: can H3-VR send audio to external mixing station directly? I.e. may it be used on a meeting streams so that a cameraman with h3 mounted on top of cam turns to a speaker behind and audio follows him there?

Hi Hugh, Curious if you can confirm whether or not RU-vid supports ambisonic audio on VR180 video playback? I have done some test exports with both VR180 and 360 format videos and only the 360 seems to properly position the ambisonic audio. VR180 sounds correct when looking forward but does not maintain correct spatial positioning as I turn my head left and right. Any links to RU-vid videos that are VR180 with correctly processed ambisonic audio for reference?

Hey Hugh, few questions. I am using the insta360 plugin to import. Do I need the plugin to use the panner? I recorded with my insta360pro with zoom h2n connected via usb mic and the ambisonic setting. I am not able to drag the panner on the clip and when I try to export h265 there's no option for 4.0 ambisonic even though I have 4 channels in the timeline. Any tips? Thanks

Would not the IEM Plug-in Suite work as well? In my limited checks, they have the tools like rotation, binaural rendering, limiters and so on. They also have OSC or MIDI real time controls and are fully free (not just cost, free to share, study and change).

Oh the metal not the arm. It is just a DLSR raiser. I can't find the link neither. But any long tripod plate will work. The one uses to hold the lens.

Yes. I always hear noise processing from the camera body - the clearest audio is from an external recorder. As the whole point to record spatial audio as environment sound is to capture background noise - including wind blowing and etc - camera noise should not be there whatsoever. I hope that make sense. If single does not pass tho the camera, the quality of the audio is depend on fully my recorder - I actually use Core Audio for my higher end production job which has very clear audio!

Hey Hugh, I'm still trying to wrap my head around 360 audio, and I have a quick question. If I only edit my 360 sound from my zoom H3-VR microphone in premiere (in the ambiX format), will the sound then follow the headphones? Let´s say that the sound is coming from the left, and I then turn my VR-glasses to the left, will the sound then move to both headphones, so it seems that the sound is coming from in front of you? Or does this require going into reaper/facebook spatial audio workstation? I really like your videos! Very easy to follow and understand :) Thanks Nanna.

In the Premiere session of this tutorial - I show you how to listen to spatial audio - check the immersive audio, then turn on the immersive video view and pan the view so you can listen to audio change. Premiere can not track your head (without VR headset), you can use your mouse to turn just like in browser and hear sound coming from where you turn. Is that making sense? I have more detailed tutorial is coming without going to reaper and stay all in premiere. Hopefully I can finish it soon to show you more in detail.

There is no reliable streaming platform support ambisonics audio. Facebook can do it but it is not that good. So I will suggestion only do stereo audio for 360 livestream. You can def use H3VR as a regular stereo mic.

Hey Hugh, If I only have one 360 ambisonic track (no lavaliers on my subjects) and they are speaking in different volumes, is it then possible to single them out and change the gain on each subject instead of changing the gain on the whole track in premiere pro?

No you can not - unless your ambisonic mic provides the original channel audio.

Sound like a Graphic Card issue. Try turn off Hardware acceleration and try again? Let me know if that change a thing.

Do you have a link for the support bar you're using to reinforce the horizontal spacer mount for the H3-VR? Do you think this part would still be necessary if the mount was just supporting the weight of the recorder and a vuze+?

Yes, VUZE+ is still has weight so you will need support. I don't have a link but any metal bar work - you can also use the cage top handle on your DSLR metal cage - the goal is to provide extra support of the plastic handle.

Is it possible to use USB to connect the H3VR to the Insta360 Pro 2 directly for audio capture? How do you utilize the fan sampling from the Pro 2 in the H3VR recording?

I never tried and I won't suggest to run the signal into Pro 2. Just clap sync. Also, turn your fan off during recording?

Oh I don't think you can get it alone - that is so weird as in US they come with it... But you don't really need it. I am just being fancy - use direct mount on top of you Pro 2 or any 360 camera, take a plain shot before or after to patch it in post like this: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xlOhluai5mk.html

I need to make a follow up tutorial - but you might miss the timeline setting part to make sure adaptive audio is picked instead of mono or stereo. So it accepts 4 channels audio.

If I use the zoom h3, then I have the audio recording at the insta360 pro2 (gain -30) during recording off or is it all the same?

You can plug a USB from Zoom into Pro 2 top USB port - that will trigger it remotely without sync issue. But the recording is still inside H3VR - which is better than inside Pro 2 b/c fan issue. There is no sync in post - just get the audio file and put it under Pro 2 footage - it work like a charm! It is missing in the tutorial but I will make it follow up one

Nope. Ambisonic mic is for environment capture ONLY. For talking or interview - please use Rode Go or Blink 500 lav your talents.

Have you tried putting this mic with a small 360 camera like the Insta360 One X2? How does it render with the stitch line/is the mic well hidden and do you get more deformations in the shot?

@@hughhou in my case I cannot use lav is all about the people I meet spontaneously like in danegrous neighboorhoods, I have to be fast and efficient however the quality of the internal mic of the one x2 is not enough. I am sweating trying to find a solution that will work capturing the sound not just pf me but all my surrounding and especially people met without handing them a mic like a journalist

It should not. Are you sure your project setting turn on immersive audio and it is VR project. Check your sequence setting and audio setting. If you do not have adaptive audio channel turn on or your project is not set to use AmbiX - it won't show up no matter what version you are on. My suggestion is to create a new VR sequence using the Premiere template (use the 8K one with ambisonic). Then copy your whole sequence over to the new sequence - then export - it should quick fix your problem. If not, let me know.

Hi Hugh. I have the H3 audio I am playing back in 4 channel spatial audio. I want to add music that is just stereo "god voice" style to the timeline. I have the audio set to adaptive and I drop the stereo audio in and it makes a new stereo audio track but whenever I export though it still plays the music as spatial. Is there a way to do this without putting the audio though 3rd party software to export?

I also trying to figure that part out honestly. The only way I know off is to use Facebook 360 workstation to inject the God Voice to have correct meta. Or I use VST to make the stereo into 4CH Ambix and spread them out in 80% of the sphere.

Thanks for the video! I finally got my h3n vr microphone. what confused me is, that I recorded the video with the camera facing me with its display, and same by the microphone, it was facing me with its small display. does it mean, I have to rotate it 180 degrees to get it right? I also exported the sound to 5.1 and in premiere I exported it also to 5.1, as the video is intended to be used only on youtube and social media, not in a VR headset. is it a better practice in this case? of course, a VR version will go to ambisonic, as you done in it your video. thanks for any further advice! keep up the good work!

The display should face away your subject - think you are looking at your display behind the talent of that make sense.

Hi Hugh. H3vr has it's north opposite to it's display. So I guess the display should point towards lens 6 of Insta360 Pro 2 for proper alignment of audio video? Lens 3 sits perfectly in the centre of the frame (7680 × 3840) and we always point it towards the action in the scene.

I am still working with Insta360 to test that part out. No, Audition does not have multi-channel audio support yet. Just do it in Premiere.

I will be using that mic with an Insta360 One X2 putting the Zoom h3 on the bottom of the hand-held stick. Also I use Davinci Resolve and KartaVR. Is there a way to make this work? Preparing the audio for Resolve and KartaVR reframing? How can I reframe making sure the audio is aligned? Or should I just generate a stereo or mono audio from the Zoom h3?

Audio is a different game in Resolve :( I will just get the audio sync and do the audio in Reaper just like in Premiere. NLE is not for audio.

@@hughhou but so it means doing everything double? The orientation of the visuals and then the orientation of the audio? Isn’t there a way to merge the spatial audio with the equirectangular file (ideally would have been inside the Insta360 Studio) and just reframe in Resolve the audio automatically as the image is reframed by KartaVR? If not I will try to use another omnidirectional mic

I am also going to ask in the KartaVR Facebook group if the creator has an idea. If this cannot work in Resolve, my alternative is to use the DJI microphones since my final videos are reframed, stereo should be enough. But in your opinion with your general video experience, do you think it will work if I put both DJI mics/transmitters on my two shoulders facing forward as I interact with strangers with my One X2 on my stick? Would it be a good configuration to capture my voice, as well as the voice of the strangers, at a similar volume? That way I would avoid the ambisonic extended workflow of reframing not only the image but also the audio.

@@captteemo9133 Yeah it’s not possible yet or at least at the time in resolve. I talked directly with the creator of the KartaVR plugin who told me Fusion doesn’t have that connection with Fairlight but that making a feature request at Blackmagic Davinci Resolve would be the way to go.

You connect the USB to the top of the Pro 2 - it will provide timecode sync and record into the Pro 2.

Yes if you are shooting Stereo - if not, facing the lens which I pointing out here in this video. Def watch the placement part of this video - kinda important if you want to avoid manually fix it in post with Panner or Blue Ripple Audio VST.

Hugh, Why aren't you simply attaching the recorder to the top of the camera by using the 1/4" to 1/4" adapter? By using the H3's dual mounting bracket, your tripod is not directly below the camera anymore and will be more difficult to remove in post, no? That said, one issue I've encountered when attaching the recorder to the top of the camera is that I have no control over which direction it faces when tightened down. Is this why you're using the mounting bracket method?

In the field, I use the top mount - but with a ball head so I can turn - not the default little screw. I will show you more images when I have them. I did the measurement and it will not be seen in the frame.

PGH in 360 I own both, and have never used this method. You can simply attach the mic directly to the top of the camera. Maybe Hugh decided to use this method for his tests where he’s stacking multiple camera on top of one another, with no where else to attach the mic(?)

I hope you may help me find the "holy grail" Hi Creator Up I trust you are having a great time in Dubai. I am midway through starting on a journey into 360 3d VR for a significant project we have started. We have for the concept a Zoom H3 - VR which you recommended which has a 4 channel surround mic which we want to key and match against the ambisonic to the video camera files. The Zoom can create most surround sound formats. Plus we have a number of Zoom lapel Mic's "Zoom F1 Field Recorder + Lavalier Mic" for picking up direct audio from key presenters which we want to remix in over the Zoom H3-VR to, to improve the presentation quality. In terms of 360 video content creations, we are using the Insta360 One X which is a proof of concept learning tool and we intend upgrading that to a couple of the Insta360 Pro 2 asap. There appears to be very little effective software that can combine the different output files that allows for channel adjustments and directional pointing so that the audio is pointed directly at the subjects in the VR and 360 worlds that does not involve round-tripping between a number of VR audio/ video packages and that mostly involves increasing the complexity and time required We have tried the process here you suggested using Adobe VR and a number of others which half do what is required. We use Adobe Premier And Blackmagic Resolve and Fusion which has no VR tools Any suggestions and advice would be of value .. Thanks Mike

Excellent video thanks Hugh! I have bought Evos, Zoom H3-VR and Da Vinci Studio Resolve for editing(from watching your videos). Don't want to have to get adobe premier too, would like to do all VR video, titles and ambisonics in one editor if possible. Can't get Ambisonics in output VR180 video using Resolve. Have tried Rode plugin, doesn't output AmbiB. Looking into using Reaper, not sure how to edit video and audio separately, or if there is a Reaper plugin( like ReaPlugs) that might work in Resolve. Is there any way or workflow to process and output ambisonics in DaVinci, or what are my options? Please check my channel to see my first edited vr180 videos (eg Newborn Foal on it's first day) and VR app. Hope you can help, keep up the great work.

I am not focus on Audio - my focus is on 360 video - but since no one cover immersive audio - I want to explain the workflow. But my audio mixing still is not on point - a lot to learn lol;

@@hughhou I disagree, as it certainly is a part of your focus. 1. The zoom unit is a mic array. 2. The title says Zoom H3-VR review... So the focus should be to at least balance the audio for a better viewing experience, whether the focus is audio or not, you could have great video footage but if your audio is not good then sorry it affects the video experience also being not good, the importance of audio is not minimal. The Zoom H3VR is basically an array of mics so yes audio is part of your focus, why would you walk around hitting random things and telling viewers can you hear my footsteps on the grass? So to make it more enjoyable to watch for your viewers without needing to lower the volume when music hits without blowing ears and then raising the volume so much when the dialogue comes in, is a little annoying. Your context is great just need to work on the audio a little more for balance. Well done nevertheless 🙏 you will only get better, if you'd like any assistance welcome to hit me up
