Thank you for this video. I just used your connection method with my Zoom H6 and iPhone 11, to practice phone interviews for my podcast, and it works! I've been trying to figure this out for weeks, buying oodles of audio cables, when all I needed was one! Thanks so much!

SO much easier for recording a phone call on my H5 than any other video I've seen. Works great. Thanks!

You are a lifesaver!!! I have had the H5 for a bit over 2 years and no one could tell me how to record from Pro Tools to the H5. I called Zoom and they told me it wasn't designed to function in that way. So my H5 has been on the shelf every since. Another performer suggested I purchase the H5 for live shows, since my performance CD had problems on a gig, but I could not contact them for the details. BenoiStudio YOU ARE THE GREATEST!!! Thank you! And yes, I will definitely "subscribe!"

For everyone interested in, I made a reverse process in order to get sound into the smartphone . I purchased a microphone / headphone splitter cable and a USB c Type to Usb OTG cable for my Huawei P30 lite. The result was positive in both cases using the Zoom H4n. In practice I can operate the Zoom as a preamplifier and send the signal to the phone: in the case of the analog connection the signal is sent via the headphone output of the zoom, in the case of the USB, making the Zoom work as an Audio Interface I / O (option of the menu). All of which spared me the purchase of an expensive Irig duo. Hope this help.

Thanks for this sharing this thorough video! I plan to interview you someone over the phone for my podcast. Based on your advice, I believe I can hookup my Samsung S9 phone to the Zoom H6 with the 3 ring stereo cable and my Shure mic (for me). Do you recommend any apps for my interviewee to call in on? Is a regular service like Sprint ok enough or is there a HD app that will provide better quality? I assume with the phone connected to the H6 I could only hear my guest with headphones connected to the H6. How will my guest hear me though? When I speak into the mic, will the H6 provide that? Thanks for your help!

All right? I want to use my Zoom H5 as an audio interface and record my podcast with Skype, but this has not worked out very well. My voice gets thick and I noticed that this happens in the standard Windows recording application. Can I connect via usb at the same time that I connect the x / y output on my pc? Thank you, great video!

Good Morning, I saw this video on your RU-vid's page about Zoom H6. As I need a microphone for my mobile ( Huawei P20) for my opera recordings or to record single arias while I am singing in a room, I would know if I can use Zoom H6 like an external mic for my mobile in order to have a Video with good sounds. If I do, could you suggest me a good cable for the connection, please? Thank you in advance!

Assuming your phone will recognize the Zoom as a Mic, it should work. Otherwise just keep it separate and combine the audio from the Zoom in a video editor.

Wow, I’ve been researching everywhere for this and finally found it! Thank you so much! I thought I would have to buy another adapter or some sort. In the video, you mentioned using headphones to hear playback from the devices but is there a way to have the 3.5mm audio jack input in while playing a soundboard on the iPad using the iPad speakers? I would like for guests on a podcast to her the soundboard as well. Thank you!
@BenoniStudio

Whenever you plug in headphones to an iPad it's going to bypass the speakers. So if you want everyone to hear what you are feeding into the Zoom H6, you would use the Headphone output of the Zoom H6 or the Line Out. You could connect a small headphone amp so everyone can hear.

@BenoniStudio Thanks for your video! One question: If my cellphone output have 'hiss' noise with sensitive IEM's with a little bit blurred sound, that defects would be noticeable with the Zoom recorder? I want to record some samples of sound quality of different cellphones (ie. low end vs high end cellphones SQ) so I want to know if can I notice that diferences. Best regards.

I want to use my ZoomH6 as a mic and audio interface for my Twitch stream. I'm testing this in Audition and OBS, and I'm not getting any levels. Audition is telling me that the ASIO in the Audio Hardware tab is "not working". I'm stumped.

I tried the 2x 1/4 inch mono cables from H6 to 1/8 inch stereo direct into laptop headphone jack. All I’m getting is harsh feedback as I record. Drivers are updated. And I’m using audacity to record the sound. Any Suggestion?

@BenoniStudio
@BenoniStudio 5 лет назад
If that is the issue then just don't use the Zoom as an interface if it is connect to your computer with USB. It could also be the 1/8 cable. You'll just have to try a few different ones. It needs to be a stereo cable.

As long as your phone takes a microphone input it should work. Though a better way IMO would be to keep things separate and combine the audio in an NLE later on when it's time to edit.

I'm using a zoom h5 in the configuration you showed in the video with your h6. I'm using a TRS cable into the side of the x/y mic, and the other end is plugged into a stereo line level output. I'm getting very clean audio, however it's only coming out of the right headphone when being monitored. I'm assuming I have something set up wrong in the h5 itself. If anyone knows how I can record and monitor in stereo please let me know. Also as far as I know when adjusting input levels with the wheels only the right channel is ever changed. (UPDATE) So it turns out that my TRS cable was faulty.

HI, do you have any recommendations for the following... I connect my phone with a cable via the XY-mic's mic-in in order to record a phone caller to the podcast. This introduces radio interference noise to the recording. Approx. 20-30 seconds after the phone call ends, the radio interference noice stops. This radio interference is not hearable when using the phone on a regular basis, nor when connecting the phone as a playback device as you do in your clip. When I patch the phone call through a mixer there is no radio inteference noise. I really like a low weight setup and do not want to introduce a mixer. Do you have any suggestions on how to overcome this issue without using a mixer?
@BenoniStudio
@BenoniStudio 5 лет назад
What's your cable like? Is it TRS (2 rings) or TRRS (3 rings) Sometimes that third ring can cause problems or solve problems, it just depends what you are plugging in to. So first try some other cables. If that doesn't work you might try a 1/8" to 2 1/4" cable and plug in to the inputs on the side of the Zoom.
@bjarkenielsen8515
@bjarkenielsen8515 5 лет назад
@@BenoniStudio Thank you for you answer. I tested three minijack-to-minijack cables to day, and they all introduce the same amount of inteference. All of them are TRS (2 rings) Then I opted to use a iphone-lightning-to-minijack-adapter and attach the minijack-to-minijack cable to this instead of directly to the iphone, - and that solves the issue. There is no more radio interference noise. It is cancelled out by the iphone-lightning-to-minijack-adapter. I still dont understand why the interference noice is present when going directly from the minijack i the iphone, though.

please help with me with this floor- hiss...and with good equipment: I have the Zoom H5 + Shure m58s and standard XLR cable patches for mic A and mic B. And just that setup has such a loud floor-hiss....why???? I thought the background would be very quiet, but it sounds like someone's frying chicken in the room next to me!! HELP. What settings will minimize this hiss?
@BenoniStudio

It could be a ton of things. Is your gain too high? Are the mics in good condition? Are the cables in good condition and connected securely? The Zooms have a TON of gain, so make sure the level is set correctly. If you record and listen back is the noise still there?

@ChrisDavisTrumpet

Jordan Kress the cable May be a faulty cable or the power may be “dirty.” If you’re plugged into a wall then try a different wall. Or, if you’re plugged into a computer then plug into a wall. It could also be the adapter if you’re using one. I purchased a cable from target the other day and it pops as well. All cables are not created equal. Some are better quality.

What are you trying to do? Why would audio be coming from the Zoom H5? Are you using it to record? You could use it as an audio interface and route the audio, or go old school if you are trying to plug into the iPhone and take the Headphone out into a Mic in on the iPhone if it accept input.

You can use Zoom H6 as an audio interface by itself! Why you want to connect an Interface and give an output when you can use USB connection with better quality!

Can we connect zoom to a smartphone? In case we want to record audio from zoom and sync it with video that we record from smartphone..
@BenoniStudio
@BenoniStudio 5 лет назад
Assuming your phone outputs the video audio from the 3.5 mm port, then yes. Of course you could always sync things later on in an NLE. There are plenty of free ones like Hitfilm, Davinci Resolve, and Media Composer First.

@BenoniStudio
@BenoniStudio 5 лет назад
So you're saying you want to USE the Zoom to record the audio and have that OUTPUT the audio INTO the smartphone while you are recording video? That depends on how your phone works. If it will take a 3.5mm input and record audio from that instead of the mic on the phone, then it should work.

This is beyond stupid! You run the audio through the laptop's DAC and amp, then through the zoom's preamp and ADC, and then copy the recorded file back to the laptop, and you think that's a good idea? Why not add more there? You could play the recorded audio from the zoom's speaker, record it using another recorder, and connect that recorder's headphone output to your laptop's input and record it on your laptop. Then you'd get even more degraded sound, which is what you seem to be after. No, the proper way to record it is of course to capture the digital audio directly on the laptop and not run it through any DAC-ADC or amps or anything else that would degrade it.
