Description: Here are two of the best audio capture tool on the market, put together and demoed with sound samples, just for you! This is what I use for my on-location podcasting, and it's a pro level setup used by a number of top-level podcasters, for example Tim Ferriss of the Tim Ferriss show. The Zoom H6 is a brilliant recorder, with up to 4 xlr inputs, and the Shure SM58 is a bomb-proof, tried and tested mic. It's great for out and about as it's handling noise is minimal and the noise rejection is great.

The sm58 is an end address mic. Why are you talking into the side?

Hi Colin, witch one do you think have better sound, Samson q2u or Shure Sm58? To me the sm58 sound less crispy, more smooth

Hi Colin, would you not need earphones to record correctly and at best quality? Why did you not use headphones? And, which headphones would you use?

Hi Colin, I've followed your advice and bought these two together, as a mobile (on the go) kit. But I'm getting a lot of hiss (white noise) from H6. I've applied the compressor effect (vocal) and I've recorded with a small gain level, between 4-6. Could you tell me, how can I get rid of that?

That's really unusual - the H6 normally has a very low noise floor, so I wonder where that's coming in. Is that even if you record with just the onboard mic (making sure it's not an issue with the external mic, or the cabling?) On the plus side, even though you'd prefer not to rely on it, any decent audio processing package can get rid of regular hiss pretty nicely. Eg. Alitu, our own app, doing regular noise reduction like that automatically, and the in-built noise reduction on the likes of Audacity and audition should be able to mostly eradicate it, too.

Hey this is late but no, the sm58 doesn’t need phantom power. Actually phantom power is not good for that mic
