Viewer requests have inquired as to my being able to create a quick overview of the sampling basics of the ZOOM MRS-1608, here it is, a little shaky on the cam, but as informative and simple as I could make it.
VERY GOOD TUTORIAL!!! Silly question: How do I "free up" space on my ZOOM 1608? I've recorded about 196 songs on it, originals and covers, and now it's telling me it's FULL.
great demo, when i use pads on 1608 theres fuzz interference, even on the playback mode, any solutions/ideas greatly appreciated, tried different cables but no change!
Hey can you show me how to trim a song I've recorded so as when I put it on CD I don't have 20 seconds or something like that Inbetween songs ?? Thanks JM
hey that was pretty cool dude, but a little too complicated for me lol! anyway i have the same machine and i wish someone would write a book on how to program that drum machine. supposedly you can program whole rhythm songs with it, but i can't figure it out. so i just play a rhythm pattern adjust the tempo and lay down some guitar and bass tracks to it. it sounds ok but the same drum pattern gets boring in a hurry. anyway nice video :oP
I am more worried on time management/synchronization, though live recording is usually rendered, not midi automation, somehow data translation and conversion screw up the pitch and tempo of certain tracks? how does this thing handle captured audio data? burn it off to plastic? internal hd?
UnitedPebbles Hi there. I Made this quite awhile ago. Yes. There was def timing anomalies via MIDI when syncing to gear for recording..Even setting the PPQ clock on the MRS didn't help this. So, sadly I had to get creative with making my tracks. I've long since moved on to Pro Tools and Cubase. Although the Zoom is great for live takes and as a house recorder for small venues..
I've been given one with HDD ERR and non-functional ROM UTY likely because of the drive. I pulled the Seagate 40g and can replace it for $30.00, BUT I need the MRS CD-ROM to format and reload software and factory samples. Been looking for a 4gb ISO image or CD for sale but no luck. Can you help? Thanks
How to play your samples Like the Mpc ? I mean the samples cuts each other while playing not to play each other when I hit the pad twice ? in the manual there is somthing called group pads but I never understand how it works this is the only point that makes me hate my Zoom mrs so if you help me I will be really really thankfull :)
@TheArtyFartyParty Don't sell it. Get yourself a manual, study it and you will find out that the MRS-1266 is a very powerful recorder that can make very high quality sounding recordings. I was frustrated with it at first too, but once you get the hang of it, you'll never turn the recorder off! The MRS-1266 is hidden gem in the ruff.
My zoom mrs 1608 died today :( I turned it on and the power comes on but nothing shows up on the screen :( I don't have the money to send it off to get it fixed :(
So this was the last to be built in Japan? It is built like a tank! I was going to upgrade my 1608 to the Tascam 2488Neo thiking it would be much btter.
You mentioned not being able to sample your voice or a piano, is it possible to record entire tracks, like my band guitar, bass guitar, piano, elect drums..?
HOLD UP WAIT JUST A SECOND HERE!! You’re explaining this machine like it’s a sampler only. The Zoom MRS 1608 is a 16 Multitrack Recorder. You can even record eight tracks at the same time(8 track recorder mode). This is good for recording drums with mics or a whole band live. You can sample vinyl or any external sound to the pads or off of a CD of wave files or Depeche Mode like you did. The CD player is made to download wave files and burn songs that you make. This machine has eight mono tracks and four stereo tracks. It also has 10 virtual takes called V-takes. This meaning you can record multiple takes for parts such as vocals or guitar solos and then select the best take later. After watching some of your video I think you have this machine confused as just a sampler. That is just one of the things this multitrack recorder is capable of doing. If you don’t have the manual you can probably download it off-line. Anyways have a great day!
I know someone who would like to sell one of these. Used very little. Her husband was a recording buff and he passed a couple years back and she has no use for it. Probably let it go for $150
I would bet my butt that every person who ever committed suicide, had one of these. , I have one and I can't even get it to multi Trac my keyboard,. It's a nightmare machine,!! 👹 Why can't they just make it as simple as an open reel , so you can listen to one or more tracs while recording others. Aarrgghhh
I'm with you on that for sure! I still have mine and it occasionally still gets used. I'm a collector as well so enjoy holding on to these things. Even though I've forgotten most functions..I printed a huge PDF manual for this and made notes and little pictures in it as I learned how to use it. Things have come along way since I made this video. But I do so enjoy the well made Japanese quality of these earlier Zoom offerings. Peace to you!
