Zoom have been quietly releasing some killer products in the last year or so. This one and their A3 Acoustic DI/Processor would probably be my top 2 favourites although I'm pretty keen on the G5 and the other MultiStomps as well. They all represent great value for money but most importantly of all, they sound good. In some cases, exceptional.
The MS-70CDR concentrates its considerable firepower on time and modulation based effects. Well over 80 of them. There are (refreshingly) no dirt box or amp sims to be found here.
As well as standard chorus, delay and reverb modules, Zoom have even had a go at emulating their rival's sounds; Eventide, TC, EHX and others all have some of their more identifiable algorithms approximated (scarily so) and included in the MS-70CDR's vast array of floaty goodness. Depending on the CPU hunger of each module, it is possible to chain up to 6 of these effects together for any given patch. Thus, you can use the MS-70CDR either as a single or multi-effect stompbox.
The MS-70CDR can be used in stereo or mono. It has left and right inputs and outputs. It ships with its own power supply but will take a generic 9VDC supply as long there's plenty of current (the exact current draw is unknown to me but I'm speculating 200+mA). Depending on the CPU hunger of each module, it is possible to chain up to 6 effects together for any given patch. That feature alone should scare some of the big boys... You can use the MS-70CDR as a single or multi-effect stompbox and the sound quality, as I hope I've demonstrated in this video, is little short of gorgeous.
This video just runs through the factory presets - nothing more. I've recorded it in stereo with two clean tube amps panned hard left and right to try and show the potential of the MS-70CDR. I have been using the MS-70CDR for the last 6 or seven videos I've made for this channel and for the PGS channel. It excels in all areas and is uber-flexible. Put simply: I love it.
