@@user-je7fh1gh2e You can use an EQ on every individual track on this machine, so if you take away the low end and boost the high end you should be able to pull that off.

I've had my Zoom R24 for a few years now and it has been a great little unit. I have used it with my 2015 Macbook Pro running Sierra and it works well with Garage Band and Logic 9 as a audio input device and transport controller.

thank u. I had my R24 for 2 years or more now and I was going to get rid of it because of the menu diving. I couldn't get barely nothing recoded due to using the built in drums and the built in effects. The book says to adjust each track before hand like the eq's and such. It becomes to overwhelming building up a template before a mixdown. I'm now inspired to give it another chance by doing it your way and hope your workflow becomes a more pleasant experience because I know this machine has a lot to offer. Looking forward for another video from you.
@mr_floydst
@mr_floydst 4 года назад
Thanks for watching! I think setting up all the tracks beforehand sounds a little bit counterproductive. Just record your takes and then edit afterwards. Once you find a nice setup, you can use that as a template when creating a new song (the R24 will ask if you want to take your current settings to your new project).

@mr_floydst
@mr_floydst 5 лет назад
Thanks for watching! I have the BR-80 and I like it, it's very portable. But the one annoying thing about the BR series is it doesn't record AIFF or WAV, you have to convert the audio files before using them. The Zoom records 24bit or 16 bit WAV which then can be transferred by SD card or USB connection without any need of file conversion. You can process the files on your PC and copy them back afterwards.
@BarnacleButtock

@@mr_floydst personally I've always found the BRWC utility quite handy for autolabeling tracks and letting me stereo pair tracks before conversion with no additional steps. I will admit it is a little tedious.

I think that's what their LiveTrack series is for, but that's a lot more expensive. The newer R20 has 4 seperate audio outs (2 stereo outputs which can be addressed individually) but that's not the professional XLR output you're looking for.

This sounds great to me. Why do some people complain about the ore amps? It sounds very acceptable to me and a very kool design. The sampler/looper is such a creative tool to have.Plus the ability to write away from a computer.
@mr_floydst
@mr_floydst 4 года назад
If you turn the pre amps all the way up, they'll produce noise. In my experience, it's ok to push them to the 3 o'clock position, but going above that is really not recommendable. But most of the times, you can leave that at the 12 o'clock position, which results in a very noise-free recording. I say this based on my experience with electric guitar, synth and microphones.

End user creativity a la YOU!! And you truly have taken the time to learn the unit. The learning curve?? Floyd Steinberg - I appreciate your (continuous) time and assistance. I do have one question in which it will show my “novice experience” with my r-24, and recording with it. Q: what are the advantages of using an AUDIO INTERFACE...I understand that the R-24 CAN be used as an “audio interface”. i) what is the advantage and the difference using a computer (as an audio interface) with the R-24? ii) what IS an audio interface iii) why would I use a computer with a program (such as protools) instead of just using the R-24 to record my songs? __________________ I think that all 3 questions are very similar, but can you possibly breakdown my concern(s) into one answer. I thank you in advance for everything👏
@mr_floydst
@mr_floydst 4 года назад
@@neurom.d.6587 In short, a DAW can do much more sophisticated processing to your music than the R24 standalone. Better effects, better mastering, and so on. And all the sequencing (repeating parts of you recordings). Using the R24 as an audio interface will produce higher quality recordings than using your PC's sound card, which might introduce noise and hum. Using the R24 standalone is faster and can yield great results, too. So it's really up to your personal preferences.

Hello. My band and I is about to use this for our recording. The plan is to record simultaneously. 5 Microphones to the drums, 1 Line Out connection from the guitar amp, 1 Line Out connection from the bass amp and 1 microphone for the vocalist. Hence, all Zoom R24's inputs are occupied. Including the Monitor Inputs which we will connect the studio's PA systems. Also good to note that we will not be renting a real recording studio. We will just going to rent a decent studio good for band practices. Some concerns are as follows: 1. Line Outs of the Instrument Amps. - It turns out, some amps, when connected to the LINE OUT, its master volume will be bypassed. This means, that the amp speaker is muted. One solution for this is to connect headphones to the amp. But, how can I hear the sound of my drummer, bass and vocalist? 2. Mic-ing up the bass and guitar amps is a good idea. However, since we also have the drummer in the room, a lot of BLEEDING from our amp microphones will be heard from the post. Any tips on how to record simultaneously with the Zoom R24? Thanks, Mr. Steinberg!

Hi, thanks for watching. Oof, I'm not a professional musician, but... 1) the easiest solution: connect a mixer with multiple outputs to the R24's audio out. Connect all headphones necessary to that mixer. 2) a common solution is to use an electronic drumkit. ;-) other options are using gates and filters. it really depends on your studio. www.soundonsound.com/sound-advice/q-what-best-way-reduce-bleed-drum-recording Best regards and good luck!

Nice vid. I'd like to see how the faders work switching between banks. And how the machine remembers the levels of each track and how that is affected when moving the faders. The biggest problem for me with the Zoom MRS4 was that every time you loaded a new song the fader positions were lost. I ended up putting very thin stickers down next to the faders so i could draw a line where the faders were in the other songs I was working on. Thanks...
@mr_floydst
@mr_floydst Год назад
The R24 memorizes the track levels. But once you move the fader assigned to a track, it's that volume indicated by the fader's position. So there is no visual feedback where the fader was before you used it on another track. On the successor, the R20, volume is changed only once you hit the level assigned to that track previously, there's also a marker on screen showing you the previous position.
@user-jb4rc8su4f
@user-jb4rc8su4f 7 месяцев назад
You dan see every track level, press the knob PAN/EQ and scroll down to parameter 'FADER' and there you'll see the fader level as a number, 0 to 127, you can change it without touching the fader with the scrollwheel, so a previous project, no matter where the faders are now, can be loaded and you can check all the fader levels and adjust them with the scrollwheel or with the fysical fader, but as soon as you touch the fader, the level jumps to where the fader is.@@mr_floydst

I may by one of these, until I can afford a more expensive multi track interface recorder. I like the idea of using it for field recording, and instrument/vocal. I've been doing a lot of research over the past week, and I've been flip flopping. It's really difficult to make up my mind. I was also thinking about the Tascam DP24, but it's strictly studio focused. They're on sale for $399.99 usd right now, so it's tempting. Ultimately, I would like to have a Tascam Model 16-24

Thanks for watching! I'm afraid I can't offer help as I never used the Tascam. It does look like a very nice piece of kit, though ;) The R24 seems to be more flexible with it's stereo/mono track setup, but again, I can't really tell.

I just got ordered a used R24 off reverb in mint condition for $260 usd, and Free Shipping on top of that. I couldn't pass up that kind of deal. The seller is very kind, and they're even throwing in a SD card. Thanks for the videos! I'll definitely be watching them more once I receive it. The Tascam Model series seems to be a step up, but the cheapest Model 16's are around $700.00 usd for a used unit. I would rather build my synth collection up at the moment, so I'm more than happy with using the R24 for a while. Even after I get a mixer with more bells and whistles, I can still make use of the R24 due to it portability. I'm starting to get into experimental ambient music, and I'll be using it for field recording. I watched your review of the R24 v R20, and I could hear the difference, but I can deal with that. I can always use one of my DAWs if I need something squeaky perfect. The R20 does sound good, but I see myself getting more use for the R24. Thanks again for posting helpful content!

And when I insert rechargeable fully charged batteries it drains out in few seconds or minutes.... I switch it to Alkaline and also Ni Mh but didnt help.... So wanna know about this....Its hard to find a really good video that deals with practical things one would need with this device.... Hi, thanks for watching! There is no "waveform overview" as seen in DAWs. If you want to, you can turn on the sequencer in any given track - press the "Track" button and you should see a menu option for doing that. But the most convenient way to navigate your song is by pressing the marker button at the point you like to work on and then navigate using the double arrow buttons. You can set as many markers as needed. Thats a really fast way of going where you want to! Rechargable batteries: Use these for the best performance: amzn.to/34uTpVD And if that still isn't enough, use a powerbank plus USB cable - the R series can be powered by USB. Best regards!

@mr_floydst
@mr_floydst 4 года назад
Hi, thanks for watching! Yes, I've used that. It's quite good for sequencing songs - you can place your tracks on a grid and repeat as often as needed. Every track can hold exactly one phrase, so you'll e.g. have one track for the bass drum, one for hihat, one for snaredrum, one for guitar verse, another one for guitar chorus, and so on. Works best for a mix of sequences and normal recordings. The sampler can't play recordings at different pitches (you can't play melodies with a sample). I made one video with the R8 I owned previously, the drums and the bassline are made with some samples and the internal sequencer: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-l0wmWc7Kl4k.html

Thanks a lot for this detailed video! I’m working with an R24, but I need to find a way to syncronize it with Logic Pro. Just to explain how I work: I often start using a drum machine synchronised with Logic (recording the drum machine on 2 or 4 tracks of Logic) OR create the drum parts in Logic with its virtual instruments. Then I transfer the drum parts recorded as audio in Logic into the R24. I go on with my tracks by adding keyboards, bass and guitar parts directly onto the R24 itself. For me it is more easy and immediate, and in this creative phase I can forget the mess and troubles of the software computer looking always at the screen… My question is: as the R24 has no MIDI connectors, how can I transfer all these R24 tracks back to Logic syncronized “in time”?…. Or, in general, how can I run both Logic and R24 to work together? (no matter which will be the master or slave). Maybe there is a possibility to send or receive midi clock / midi time code when the R24 is connected via USB though the interface? Thank you in advance for your help!

Hi, thanks for watching! I don't know if I understood that correctly, but normally, the R24 fills that part of the tracks where you didn't record something with silence. So if you drag these tracks into your daw, they should be in sync (if they all start at 0).

The track starts recording as soon as it detects level.Basically I want to record in the seperate elements of a korg volca beats drum machine. It means that all tracks will start at the same time and be synched. I wish the tracker had midi. I could do the above on reaper daw and import it although I'd prefare to do it on the unit itself. Thanks for these vids.il hopefully get round to trying it next week.

Thanks so much for this man! Great sounding music and straightforward approach to demonstrating how to use the r24. I'm thinking of buying it and using it in a similar way. I have two questions....was wondering if the guitar amp sims/ patches are the same as they are on the zoom r8? And also, can you sequence your own samples as you would with the built in rhythm machine I.e. manually play pads (sampled drums for example) and then use quantization to create a pattern/loop with said samples? Sorry for the long comment but any help would be appreciated!!
@mr_floydst
@mr_floydst 4 года назад
Hi, thanks for watching! I think the effects are the same as on the R8 (that was the one I had before buying this). Plus the R24 has a big selection of mastering effects to choose from. You can sequence samples just like on the R8, and use a drum machine, too. Samples can be triggered by the drum pads, but you can't play melodies. If I remember correctly, the R24 does "snap" your trigger to the nearest part of the grid while recording, so no quantizing after recording.

Thanks for watching / Danke für's Zuschauen. :-) Most Mixers have 2 or more "buses" (audio outputs). So it should be possible to connect those audio outs to the R24's audio inputs, resulting in at least 2 seperated stereo tracks. The R24 can record up to 8 seperate mono tracks. In case your mixer has as many audio outputs, you're good. You can even add external insert effects after recording, you can see how to do that in one of my videos - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uQO-oroK-zE.html Deutsch: Ein Mischpult hat meistens mehrere "Busse", also Audioausgänge.

Hi, thanks for watching! It's been a while since I moved to the R20 - I wasn't aware of that, I always thought the R24s audio interface part will work without the need to install drivers, but I most likely remember that wrongly. Thanks for pointing it out!

If you buy this, you get both. This also works as an 8 way USB Audio Interface.

Hello Floyd Steinberg, thank you for the video. I have One question, the machine have 8 inputs, it is posible to record 1 guitar, 1 bass and 1 synthetiser at the same time? I always have the question. Thank you very much for your attention

Hi, thanks for watching! Yes, that's possible. You can record up to 8 tracks simultaneously.

Would this be good for making metal demos?
@mr_floydst
@mr_floydst 4 года назад
Thanks for watching! I'd say yes. You can record 8 tracks simultaneously (left guitar, right guitar, bass, singer, and the rest for drums, maybe?) and do some EQing and mastering. If you happen to own two of these, you can record 16 tracks at once by syncing up via USB connection.

@mr_floydst 4 года назад
@@bigmoviestar Hi! As long as you don't plan to sequence your music with this, you can record any music style, be it classic music, rock, reggae, electronica or northern finish deep forest doom metal. ;-) You can create some drum tracks on this machine and maybe record a bass phrase and get that looped or sequenced, but anything more complex than that is better done on a DAW. For live recordings and basic mixing and mastering, the R24 is a nice, easy to understand machine. Best regards!

Hello Floyd. Question: How to route an input to a track. Example: input 1 route to track number 18 for recording. Note: currently having to bouce tracks after recording Them : input # 1 to track # 1 , input# corresponds to track # Thanks for any info Having to bounce Tracks wastes alot of time. As the bounce is in real time.
@mr_floydst
@mr_floydst 4 года назад
Hi! I think routing isn't possible. But you can swap your tracks. E.g. if you want to use the empty track on input 8 and your instrument/mic is connected to #1, press the swap button and move the empty track to #1. The R24 will then swap the audio file and all your EQ, FX and PAN settings.
@mikehunty20
@mikehunty20 4 года назад
@@mr_floydst Thank you. So that i understand This. Record from input 1 to track 1, because instrument/ mic is connected to input #1. Then after recording is completed. And if track 8 is empty, Then swap track 1 to 8?
@mr_floydst
@mr_floydst 4 года назад
@@mikehunty20 That's correct. There's a "swap" button on the right side under the display for that.

Does this allow you to loop whatever you record?
@mr_floydst
@mr_floydst 4 года назад
Hi, thanks for watching! Yes, it does - but it's not a looper. You have to set up the loop / the sequence in multiple button presses, so you can't do it "live, on the fly". Best regards!

@mr_floydst 4 года назад
Thanks for watching! I think that's an entirely different machine targeted at people who like to sequence stuff. Having 24 tracks available with 8 mono / 4 stereo inputs is quite important to me, and I usually just play all the stuff "live" (apart from the drumloops, that is). Plus I bought a Digitone a year ago, which is a great machine, but having that UI with key combos to memorize and many hidden functions would definitely kill me. ;-)
@manfrombkk
@manfrombkk 4 года назад
Yes, agreed, the Octagtrack especially requires a LOT of brain and muscle memory. I just wish the Zoom had send and returns so you could take a track out and run it thru effects pedals and then back in to lay down a new track or overdub the original. Is that possible in some way?
@mr_floydst
@mr_floydst 4 года назад
It's possible, but only in real time. I'm going to make a video on this. Basically, you can select one of your recorded tracks as a click track on the headphone output. Then arm another track and record that.
