This is a demo (with recording) to show how easy it is to record with the Zoom R24. This is a complete, standalone, recording station.
You can mix from the R24 or take your recordings to your computer
for editing.

Thanks for many great movies. Now I know you bought an L8 and are happy with it. I myself hesitated between L8, L12, R8, R16 and R24 but also Tascams DP008 and some other stuff. I decided on DP008 and R24 and came across them both at a good price and have tried to record a few songs on both, but now Tascam is in the closet. On R24 adjusting the volume of all channels is possible in a different way, without the fysical fadercontrols. With the Pan/EQ button you can go right/left between the channels and up/down between paning, different frequencies, effectsend and fader and more. A feature there is that if you are on fader in channel 5 and go over to channel 6, you are still on fader, which makes it easy to adjust the balance in the mixing.

So I guess you have to keep switching between the different groupings to mix . Did you get used to that and does it switch instantly when you hit the button?

You may want to check out the Zoom LiveTrak amzn.to/3cuUyAD series. It’s the r- series mixed in with audio interface and mixer. I just bought one. Very nice. Review will post in Thursday. Alert; the R24 drums are on SD card and aren’t loops. Just individual drum taps/beats. I would have gotten the R16 had I known that.

Trouble removing 1/4” instrument cables from combi inputs. I have the zoom r24, and I cant seem to release and remove 1/4” cables once they have been inserted. Does anybody have the same problem and did you come up with an answer to the issue without destroying the cable or zoom R24?
@DebErney
@DebErney 4 года назад
The R24 does have a really tight grip for the cables. They are difficult to remove until the connections have been used a bit.
@vitomasilotti
@vitomasilotti 3 года назад
@@DebErney Yea, interesting comment from @Jim Watson, and great answer. I noticed that myself, about the Zoom. I also, initially thought that the jacks were in there for good, and was afraid to break the machine when I attempted to pull out the cables. You do have to be very careful when attempting to pull out the jacks. Pretty much the tightest grip I've ever felt on an XLR cable input jack, I think. Your answer is right on. And hopefully, like you said, it will become easier to remove the connections over time. I just recently bought the R 24 myself, after using a Boss BR-864 and the Tascam 2488 for years, and still going thru the learning curve with the newly purchased Zoom... So, have you done any more videos regarding the unit? I'm like a sponge right now, and trying to learn all I can about it, as I sift thru the manual as well; but there's really nothing like a hands on video tutorial...

Great info sharing. Do you get better mixdowns with the stand alone or DAW? I'm hoping the answering is the stand alone does great with both recording and commerical sounding mixdown & mastering, but whichever it is pls share more info about that. Thx so much
@DebErney
@DebErney 5 лет назад
Great question. I am always comparing the two and can’t believe I haven’t done a video on it. The major differences are in the ease of use. With the stand alone you are eliminating the computer, hence most of your problems, especially with Windows. When I’m out recording I always use a stand alone as I usually don’t have time to mess with setting up DAW and computer. When I’m in my studio i use both. The sound with my Zoom stand alone recorders has a bit more warmth to it and not as crisp as the DAW. The DAW is really good for getting clean recordings that can be manipulated in software. Of coarse you can also edit the stand alone. If I had to pick one I’d choose my Zoom h5. I use it for everything; recording from mixer, recording live, laying down scratch tracks, voice overdub, video, there isn’t anything this little thing doesn’t do well. For recordings in the studio I tend to use my Focusrite Scarlett. The sound is really clean and it’s always setup ready to record. For most of my sound difference videos (Boss ve-8 outputs, Mixer outputs) I will use a Zoom R24 as it records up to 8 simultaneous tracks. As far as editing you can edit either one just the same. My stand alone recorders record .WAV files to SD cards which I import into Logic Pro X. The Stand alone also records each separate track on a separate .WAV file. With the DAW you have to save each file separately. Half a dozen one way, two the other. I don’t think I could pick one over the other. I like to do the first recording (scratch recording) with the stand alone then transfer it into Logic and record the overdubs with the Focusrite Scarlett. I really think you can do anything you want with either one. Your preferences are going to be with how you like to work with recording.

@@DebErney ok thx. I'm curious about that because I'm starting to learn how to use zoom r24 and it came w/cubase. I have more time put into the r24 as a stand alone but recently got a laptop to check out cubase it's not a Mac. Thus far all I can say is gonna take more time than the r24 did to setup to mixdown, transferring files from the r24 to cubase pc is worth it if i can get a better mix but if I'm not going to I can use my pc for other stuff and focus on getting good at using the r24 as a stand alone. Thx for your response.
@DebErney
@DebErney 5 лет назад
celebrate diversity you know the R24 can be used as DAW. I add a slight bit of reverb when recording and thats it. I don’t do any mixing or other effects with the stand alone. I have found recording with a mixer attached (main outputs into DAW or standalone. left/right. Using the stand alone for anything other than recording is a real pain. I use it strictly for recording then transfer the WAV files to computer via SDcard. Cubase is not the most user friendly software. I don’t usually like PRESONUS but the PRESONUS Studio One software is inexpensive and much easier to use. You can’t beat the Zoom recorders for sound, ease of use, functions, effects.

@@DebErney Thx! That's the info I need. Because it's important for beginner self taught recording engineers to know it's not just them not understanding the Daw, some Daw set-ups are not user friendly. I've heard good things about studio one I'll read more about and see if they have a free version to try. Cubase comes with the zoom R24 when you buy it, that the only reason I have it. Who is gonna be the company that makes a good stand alone and keep making it, improve it and keep it going like avid pro tools. Boss stopped production of their Br1200 thru 1600 instead of improving it, tascam stopped making their DA38, 88 and up instead of improving it and adding a sd card slots and usb ports many friends of mine have to change the recorders they use, it would be a good thing when a company keeps making something like this and update it instead stopping production so the recordings done on those machine can't transfer to another machine made by them or others. I hope zoom keeps that in mind. Thx again for what you do.

Since you are familiar with Tascam I would recommend using one of the Tascam PORTASTUDIO units. They are stand alone recorders and the sound quality difference from what you have been using is tremendous. Computer recording can be a real pain. I use a stand alone unit, Zoom LIVETRAK L-8, to SDCARD then I transfer the .wav files into my computer for mixing. The computer recording can be a real pain to setup and mess with dropped drivers, latency problems. www.sweetwater.com/store/search.php?s=Tascam+portastudio

@DebErney
@DebErney 5 лет назад
I used the Tascam Portastudio’s for years UNTIL Tascam dropped the warranty. They say one year but it’s ONLY ON NON MOVING PARTS. Which is essentially the case. I shelled out $175 for repairs on a defective DP-24 that I bought new 90 DAYS earlier. Needless to say that was the end of my relationship with Tascam. I replaced it with a Zoom R16 and never looked back. So I would choose anything over Tascam just because of the deceptive warranty. Zoom still has a complete one year warranty from top to bottom.
