I managed to achieve this since my R8 arrived. Again, a very useful tutorial. One thing I would like to add is that I found out after much trial and error, it wouldn’t load MP3 files so I converted them to .WAV and now it works perfectly. Thanks again Rick.

I just did the same a few minutes ago. The MP3 file is there, but the machine can't see it. Tricky little bastard, this R8. But it gives suprisingly good results.
hey brother, thanks so much, I been tried during all day long follow a gay from video you tube in argentina, even I´m from México city and speak spanish as this gay, failing in all steps, but with you just take me 5 minutes, really thank you brother, you area amazing and clear with a gift to explaine it. THANK´S!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m using it to play a backing track. I import the wav and it auto links to 1&2. However there doesn’t seem to be anything coming out of channel 2 or the right output. The headphones out seems fine but not the right output. Would you have any suggestions?
just checking for info. the Wav is stereo and it is imported into track 1 and 2. on the main outputs there is only sound on the left side, but on the headphone out it is the full stereo recording?
@@simonbyrne1834 Ok, I can recreate the problem so I hope it is the same one you are having. The stereo file is imported to channel 1&2. The metronome is routed to channel 2. this will send the right channel to you headphone and your left channel to your main out, When you then put the balance knob in the center, you get the master and click(metronome) channel on your headphone. This is the complete track in stereo. But the master is still just only track 1 because track 2 is routed to the headphones via the metronome workaround. SOLUTION: in the metronome menu put the sound back to an internal sound like click, cowbell etc. The system I use means that you have a second audio track on other channels that are routed to the click track. tracks I don't want to send to the main outs.
Hey man, I'm new to the R8 but are your output jacks TRS ? (stereo) I'm just guessing that if you aren't using both Trs at the output that it defaults to one channel of the other (mono) Headphones are always TRS jacks so you get the separate channels that you're hearing.
I know I can loop the drum patterns to play endlessly, or for as long as I specify. I'm wondering if you can actually build a song drum track with intro, verse 1, fill, verse 2, fill, chorus, fill, verse, ending, etc. ?? Or do I need a dedicated drum machine for this ?
What's up! I just started using my zoom r8.. my computer is down right now. Is there a way that I can import rap instrumentals from my phone on to the zoom r8 so I can put vocals over the instrumental?
you basically need to get your files on the sdcard. so what you would need is an adapter from your phones loading port (lightning/usb C/micro usb) to regular usb A. If it is USB C you can also use a hub. For the others they call it an OTG cable or adapter. Then you plug your zoom R8 mini Usb cable into the hub\other end of the OTG cable/adapter. The phone battery will power the Zoom R8 .. when It's powered up click USB/cardreader and the R8 should show up in your phone as external storage. You can then drop your wav files into the audio folder of your project. If you don't have a project yet. just turn your zoom R8 off and on again. Your phone will then just work as a powerbank and you can make a project in the zoom. after that you can connect as cardreader and do the steps like in the video. Please let me now if it worked out for you. Regards, Rick
Click to headphones is default. In the metronome menu u can choose the internal metronome sounds or audiotracks as your metronome that are then send to your headphone out.
hey great video, it helped a lot where the manual couldn't but i have run into a problem. imported audio files of mine are always loaded in as stereo tracks even though if they are mono. one track even just hard pans left while pretending there is output on the right which there isn't. maybe i have messed up something in audacity when exporting but i made sure its a mono track in this instance. its also very annoying if u have more then 4 imported tracks since they all loaded in stereo no matter what it seems. maybe u have an idea. i can work around it for now but it is a bit limiting.
You can import an audio file to the mastertrack but it deactivates the other 8 channels. What you can do is put the audio file into say track 7/8. Record the individual tracks and then merge some of them using the bounce function when you run out of tracks. You can even bounce them with the onboard fx and amp sims. If you really want more tracks for this I would recommend the zoom R24. Which can record 8 tracks simultaniously for drums or a whole band live recording, but most importantly, It has 24 tracks.
@@RArecordingsRickValconCan I bounce some tracks to the master track and then "import" the master track into, let's say, tracks 7-8 of the same project ?
Is it possibility to make that: signal from input1 and input2 [sounds from monitor guy: guitar/voc etc.] going only to headphones out while playing backing tracks [on 7 & 8 to: master out & headphones] and click track [wav from DAW: to headphones only] hm? Thank you.
@@pawep.8288 if you make your click wav mono and import it in say track 7 and track 8 then you can rout the inputs to these channels and they will be in the center. you then route 7/8 to your headphones in your metronome menu. your backingtrack you can mix in with the blend knob and can still be stereo, also on your headphones. If your click wav is stereo then input 1 and 2 will automatically pan hard left and right wich is not optimal. I use a kicktrigger live with a splittercable and input 1 is only my trigger and input 2 the rest of the monitor mix. So i can make a balance between my trigger, the monitor feed, the click and the backingtrack.
@@RArecordingsRickValcon so, basically: mono metro wav to 7/8(but why one mono track split for 2channels?), real time inputs 1+2 rout to 7/8 and all these are only headphones. Backing tracks may be 5/6 or 1/2 (out to master foh + headphones). Is that mix right in live situation ? Once again thank you.
The video is very clear. But my R8 just doesn’t see the files that I put in the AUDIO folder. I tried a lot of variations: -Converting them to wav (I tried Microsoft 16-bit and 32-bit) -Turning it into a mono file on the computer. -Giving the file the same name the R8 would give it when it would be a recording. Still the only option I have when I try to select a file is ‘new take’. Any ideas?
Set the gray switch to "phones only" and turn the grey "balance" knob to the right where it says "click". You can blend in the backingtrack if so desired with this knob.
I want to add Stairway To Heaven singing to trigger when I press a button. I want to break the singing up into several parts. I want to be able to press button 1 for singing part 1. Then press button 2 for singing part 2...etc. Can I do that?
What cable do I need to from a zoomR8 in to a pc laptop ? Also what cable do I need to use a iPad with the zoom r8 .can I go direct with the correct cable from a pen iPad Air to the zoomR8 ..are they compatible? I’d like to use gargle band ..Thanks man
@@RArecordingsRickValcon oh ok thanks for reply well if there is any chance you could test it out I would really appreciate I feel like I'm struggling with it I'll keep trying tho
@@RArecordingsRickValcon oh I made tracks on zoom that include drum patterns from the zoom but when I put them on PC the rhythm track won't open in cubase or audacity so I can't finish the songs because my drums are gone even when they imported once it glitched
Hi, thks for the video, my question refers to the file you loaded. I readed that it’s possible to load only .wav file is it right? Than the file you loaded was composed by just 1 track or more than 1? Because it seems you imported just one file in the project but than seems 7 tracks light on. Sorry maybe it’s not a good question but i’m interested in this product i would like to be sure before buying, thks again
In the daw you can make a mixdown/render. So normally i put the individual songs on separate traks. But in the mixdown I make just 1 clicktrack and 1 backingtrack
Hi Rick, thks for answr, i’ve bought the R8 some day ago, I’m still reading the manual, I can’t find how to synchronize internal click with the backing track. Than i’ve some difficulty with catalina, seems not to recognize the r8 and I can’t find drivers, so’ i have to load files on audio folder in the the sd card and than put the sd in the r8, but even if my files start at the beginning there is some difference with the click, can you please explain how to manage it? The internal click function it’s very important, cause i need the click only in the phones. Thks for help
@@RArecordingsRickValcon dear Rick, Now the link between the r8 and catalina works through the usb connection. I loaded the tracks in the projects. For first i managed the internal click and it seems to work. If the track is very well cutted, they sound perfectly synchronized. For second i'm trying to work with my own audio click sound. i've loaded 2 separated tracks in the audio folder (in the manual is not explained the correct procedure for assigning the tracks in the project right? i tried by myself loading all in the audio folder). than assigned track 1-2 to click.wav; 3-4 to the sequence. than i selected tools, metronome, sound. my audio click assigned to tracks 1-2 sound in the phones, but even if the metronome selecter is on phones only, i can hear the click also through the main output. the fader 1-2 are up. what was wrong?
Thanks for the video, unfortunately, i have returned to this video a few times over the last year or so and i can never seem to get it to work, i have imported mp3s and wavs and each time my R8 only offers new take i cant see the file i have imported, any ideas?
you put a mic in the input, set the gain knob so the mic volume is at around -12 db in the meter. use the gray balance knob to make a balance between the music and the vocal. above each fader is a small button green is play red is record, no light is off. so you have input 1 and 2 and they can be routed to any channel. so input one goes to 1,3,5 or 7, and input 2 goes to 2,4,6 or 8. So say your music is on track 3 and 4, than by making the button red you can record input 1 to 1,5 or 7 by pressing record . after you done recording make the red button of the track green so you don't record over it. you also have an undo button to undo the last change. with the pan eq button you can set the stereofield with pan and equalize the tracks. by pressing effect button and then reverb button under the screen you can add reverb to your tracks in pan eq. After you done all this you can pres the button above the masterfader and make this one red. now when you playback the tracks they will make(bounce) a stereo recording of all the tracks activated(green) tracks. by pressing effect again you can even put a mastering effect on there. Just experiment and try out some things :)
@@shaneball238 I had the same problem, what I did was,I took the wav file into a DAW and made it as a loop and exported it in the khz you want to work with 44.1khz or 48khz..The strange thing is if I didnt export it as a loop it wouldnt work no matter the khz, and I use Ableton live 10 as a DAW so you know...I hope it helps...can also be that the sd card can be the wrong one cause I did buy one with 32gb and did have problems with it...
I own a Zoom R8 and today I have decided to make some cleaning and so I have deleted the whole content of the PROJECT folder of the SD card, and thus I have discovered that the R8 can't be used anymore! It just shows "No project" and it won't let you create a new one. It does not automatically create a new default project when you turn it on again. This is crazy. Would you please upload a project file here, so that I can bring my R8 to life again? Just any project file... I see that other people on the net have had this awful issue and they have remained with no answer. If there is anyone who would like to spend 5 minutes to upload a R8 project file, that would be of great help to all those who have made such a stupid (but unpredictable) mistake like me...
dude, was that test file a .wav file ? you really should unhide ext for known file types in windows under folder options if you're into importing/exporting music files. ...just sayin... Windows is a piece of .... they don't make it easy anymore to use your computer for practical reasons. Bill Gates had great ideas.......40 years ago.
