Thank you, Logan, for this very helpful and informative video. You answered a puzzling question that arose today after originating several zoom sessions for a global on-line event. We always record to the cloud, in fact, purchased more Zoom cloud storage space to handle videos that will be made for a week on this event. Spotlighting worked well during the live sessions. However, when playing the videos back from the cloud, Spotlighting was not functioning. You answered the "why" question saying the Spotlighting function is only recorded when recording locally to your computer and not to the cloud. It is interesting that your video was recorded in Feb 2022 and today is Jun 18, 2023. One would assume that this problem would have been solved by now, more than a year later. We greatly appreciate you making your viewers aware of this situation!

Thanks for this one, but you are saying that local recording - spotlight possible, cloud recording spotlight not possible. On 4:43 you show the cloud recording (speakerview) but with a label "Recording Locally" and on the local recording (Spotlight view) you show the blue label "Recording from the Cloud" on 4:47. Confusing. No one else saw it? So I guess labels are mixed?
@loganclements

Great catch! I did mislabel them in my video (apologies for my editing mistake). But yes, the local recording will show all the different views and the cloud recording will only show one speaker at a time.

Hi! Great tips. Thank you. I just wanted to say, you could have tell the information needed to record multiple spotlights in 2-3 minutes tops. Please take this as a constructive criticism. Most probably people ended in this video are the ones who searched for the title. But you are taking too much time to get to the critical info which is frustrating. This might hold you back in your channel growth. Again please don't take this badly. Thanks again. Best wishes.

omfg no wonder I was so confused why one of my recordings showed multiple spotlighted panelists during a screenshare, but another recording didn't do that. I knew I wasn't crazy, I had seen a version with multiple people on screen, but it was a local recording grrr it's just too bad they were covering the slides instead of being next to it.

Thank you! So if I click "record to my computer" in order to capture a split screen interview....but want to free up space later on my computer...can I upload to dropbox...and then delete the file from my computer? Or, will that lose the video all together?
@loganclements
@loganclements 2 года назад
Yes, if you record locally to your computer, that would be the only copy of the session. If you then upload to Dropbox, Google Drive, or another cloud-based server and save it there, you could then delete the copy on your computer and access the recording through Dropbox or Google Drive. Just be careful that your file is uploaded to a cloud-based server or a USB or external hard drive before you delete from your computer. Hope that helps!

Hello. I'd like to host a meeting with one person, record it, but have the recording ONLY SHOW the other person (with his permission, of course), and never show myself in the recording... Is it possible to do that (with a free account)? If so, how? Thanks.
@loganclements
@loganclements 2 года назад
Hi, great question! With a free account, you can only do local recordings. I'd suggest first testing this before you record with the person, but once you hit record, if you turn your camera off, remain muted, and spotlight the other pesron, in your local recording you should only see that person. This can also be achieved if you have the pro plan and record speaker view to the cloud and if you're muted you won't be visible in the recording

Hi Logan! Your videos are so helpful and clear and have already made a huge difference in how I've been supporting my colleagues create more dynamic Zoom events, thank you so much. I'm wondering if you have any tips on how to get a particularly arranged Zoom gallery grid to record exactly as it looks to the host who positioned it? We're recording a choreographed dance using strategically positioned Zoom squares, which works live but the host view doesn't seem to translate to the cloud recording. We unfortunately can't use the spotlight feature as there are more dancers in Zoom squares than the spotlight limit allows for. Any thoughts you have would be MUCH appreciated!
@loganclements
@loganclements 3 года назад
Hi Sonja, that's a new ask - you can control with spotlight view but if you're just doing gallery view, it'd suggest testing it out. As long as you have everyone join the call first and keep their cameras on, Zoom shouldn't re-order the view. Let me know if you test it out and what happens!

@loganclements
@loganclements 2 года назад
Unfortunately, if you're recording locally, it will only capture speaker view, which if you're using spotlighting, it would be the same view. If you want to capture gallery view, you'll need to record to the cloud.

Great help and solve for me. A question: If the participant asks a question do they then pop on in speaker view? I only want myself and the person i am interviewing to be seen in large no matter if an audience member asks a question, however it is fine to see them speak in the gallery--just not in big. Many thanks--so helpful.
@loganclements
@loganclements 3 года назад
Great question! If you're spotlighting yourself and the person you're interviewing and you unmute or allow an audience member to unmute themselves, you'll just hear their voice as a "Voice of God" in your recording and yes they'll still be visible in Gallery view. Only if you were not spotlighting anyone and in active speaker view, then the audience member would appear on the screen. Spotlighting is a great tool to help you control speaker view and keep the focus on yourself and the person you're interviewing.

@loganclements
@loganclements 3 года назад
Hi, you won't be able to record in another person's Zoom meeting/event if they've disabled that. If you're not seeing the button in your personal Zoom, go to Zoom.us and check your settings by going to Settings > Recordings > and make sure local recording and/or cloud recording are enabled (they should be blue). Hope that helps!

OMG, thank you for explaining this. This happened to me I had a panel of six and I spotlighted them all and when I reviewed the recording, the panelists showed up individually! 😟 question: If I'm recording another session after a panel, can I switch from recording on the cloud to record on computer in a zoom meeting? 🤔
@loganclements
@loganclements 2 года назад
You're not alone! It's very frustrating that you have to learn by doing. Yes you can switch but you will have to stop the recording and then start a new one. As long as you have enabled both cloud and local recording on your backend Zoom settings, then you should be able to. I do reccommend testing this in a Zoom room by yourself to check you have everything enabled!

Cool. Okay i have one last question. When i flip my image in Zoom using the mirror device in the settings, it looks like me and i am happy. However, when i record and look at the recording of it, it is flipped the other way again and my hair is all wacky. How can i record and in the mirror image so that will be seen that way (in mirror) on the playback? Thanks again, you're a genius.

I'm looking to record 3 gameshow contestants remotely along with our host. I will edited in postproduction with the three contestants and their response to questions. The host will be recorded on a high quality camera in studio I just need to capture the three players and their responses with good audio quality. Any tips?
@loganclements
@loganclements 2 года назад
Hi Neil, Zoom is a good option for this if you want the remote contestants to be able to control their mute and unmute. Streamyard is another tool that I've used for streaming/recording with multiple speakers and I'll be sharing a video in February on how to do that.
@therobboyd
@therobboyd 2 года назад
Hey! I tried this approach and was unsuccessful. Before we started recording the session, both recording options were available on the drop down list. However, when the host selected to "record to cloud", I as the co-host did not have the option to additionally "record to computer". Any suggestions?
@loganclements
@loganclements 2 года назад
Hi Rob, that can happen if the host hasn't enabled for others to record on the Zoom.com backend. It also could be the order that you started the recording. It could be the order that you start the two recordings. Try starting the local record first before the cloud recording. If that doesn't work let me know and I can dig in more! Sometimes the functionality changes as Zoom releases updates

Hi Logan -- Do you have to be in speaker view in order to spotlight speakers or can you spotlight speakers in gallery view?
@loganclements
@loganclements 3 года назад
Hi Lisa, great question! To view only the spotlighted speakers, yes you need to be in speaker view. If you go to gallery view, you'll see the speakers and the audience. When you first start spotlighting people, it will automatically change the audience's view to speaker view with the people you've decided to spotlight. After that initial spotlight, the audience can still go back to gallery view but will need to select that view option for themselves.

Doe 4:47 show a locally recorded video?
@loganclements
@loganclements 3 года назад
Hi Yoshi, yes! My graphics are switched, my mistake! You are correct, 4:47 is the local recording, the one that shows both spolighted speakers. The first example, that only shows one speaker at a time is the CLOUD recording.

@loganclements
@loganclements 3 года назад
@@yoshiyoshi8172 You might need to adjust your settings in Zoom to allow both cloud and local recording. Once enabled, you can record spotlighted videos locally. The biggest hurdle is that you cannot record to the cloud and locally as one person. You'll need a friend or colleague to also record locally while you record to the cloud or vice versa.
