i like how the Xoox front turns into the rear of the car and the rear of the car turns into the front of the car when pulling out of a parking spot. I also like that it has big double-opening doors for ease of getting in and out of the vehicle. As self-driving becomes more accepted in society and policies for regulating self-driving cars become more evolved, I can see Xoox-style vehicles becoming a winner in self-driving car design. I have ridden in Waymo cars.. and they are hard to get into and out of like regular cars. The Xoox would allow a person to get completely in the car and the doors closed even before they are seated.. which can offer some security benefits. It would also allow for easier and faster exiting which also can provide some safety and security benefits. And of course. the east of entering and exiting would be beneficial for persons with disabilities, like people with walkers and wheelchairs and canes etc. I can see vehicles like these being used for non-emergency and perhaps even emergency medical transports.
quite an interesting vehicle. I see this in the future as very useful to transit authorities to shuttle passengers from railway stations to their homes and vice versa. It's likely that soon the first driverless full-size (not minivan) city busses will also start entering the market
this is a amazing tech. one question about the obstacle avoidance performance- what if there is a sudden event, say car, motorcycle, bike jump from the road? how is the performance to avoid this?
The cars are expensive, they went all out on the sensors. And they're not cheap to manufacture. Only way the company makes sense is if they barely break even and then get rolled into Amazon prime
zoox is level 5 autonomy. waymo is still level 3. meaning zoox is highly advanced compared to waymo(for a short time till waymo catches up) that's why zoox is a full fledged robotaxi with not even a steering wheel. whereas waymo is still called an AV autonomous vehicle.
Amaizing. Thanks for the video. Now I understand why Waymo went for Jaguars. To make sefldriving vans/somewhat public transport look luxurious. That one from Zoox is cute, well designed, but can´t imagine someone would take it to the meeting or on some date. It just an oposite of luxurious. Funky, but older generation would have a problem with it :)
