Kaido actually does have future sight. He even used it blind, stinking drunk, so he's probably really good at it.

If anything, Kaido proves how stupidly broken the addition of future sight to an already broken arsenal is. The one time he used it to flex on Luffy, he absolutely outplayed him.

Liam I believe you misspoke! Kaido in his fight against Luffy does indeed say “you’re not the only one who can see the future” which would imply Kaido does have future sight. I believe this happens in their 2nd confrontation on the roof after Luffy rides on Momo

One element that might make a difference is familiarity. Most of Zoro's fights are puzzles where he needs to understand how his opponent works before he can take them apart. With Katakuri he has a head start, because his powers are so similar to Luffy's to begin with.

Kaido literally used future sight against snakeman, kaido is just so fast and durable that he never really feels the need to use it. Also conqueror's has a massive speed boost as we saw with luffy easily dodging thunder bagua in his base despite barely dodging it before with just future sight

I think you left out an important ability that does make Zoro have an attack that could go slightly in the direction of snake man. The inexplicable ability asura where he basically clones 2 extra of every sword and the body part holding the swords. Nobody knows how it works, but the clones are there for a reason, and I think having 9 swords being flung at you by the future greatest swordsman would be confusing and hard to avoid.

I've been binge watching the Blue Banana Podcast since I discovered it last week and the amount of times I've heard about Liam's life size Zoro statue is staggering

I feel like there were far more actually important variables in this that gave Katakuri the edge. Like with the time constraint, Zoro could straight up die for taking too long whereas Karakuri would just be getting hangry.

Feels like the value of future sight is necessarily dependent on how its used. Kaido, being the previously invulnerable monster he was had no need for something that wouldn’t change the way he fought. Even luffy’s original use of FS is just a copy of what katakuri does. Katakuri’s use of FS was the perfect blend with his paramecia, like the mochi he used it flexibly. Place me firmly in the “underrated” camp for future sight.

Katakuri’s power feels gimmicky at the highest level. He’s never gonna lose to people objectively weaker than him but won’t overcome those objectively stronger either. Zoro is linearly strong giving him the ability to hang with much stronger opponents but also be able to lose to weaker ones that can hard counter him and in this case Katakuri. That said Zoro has more room to improve and when the gap between his ceiling and floor closes he will propel to the truly elite level. Whereas Katakuri is so dependent on future sight if he choose to not use it in battle to hone the other aspects of his skill he will have a major handicap and likely have to start from scratch if he wants those skills to be relevant at a high level fight.

I think the real situation with futuresight is that once it is introduced it's one of those things that becomes a real pain pervasively😅 As illustrated by Katakuri, I think you become basically unbeatable for 99% of opponents if they don't have futuresight and you have it to any noteworthy degree (i.e. a couple of seconds). So to preserve one's sanity, I think the when a known proficient futuresight user clashes with someone else it has to be assumed that they have atleast the level of futuresight required for it to be a non-factor, and that by Oda not drawing attention to it it implies it's not a noteworthy feature of the battle.

I hate powerscaling. It all boils down to "my favourite character is better than your favourite character" more than anything else. Discussing how different types of powers and Devil Fruits of One Piece setting would work together or against each other can be interesting, but even that often leads to online arguments over meaningless things.

It’s a tricky match up for sure. I think if Zoro as he is now where to fight katakuri as he was when he fought Luffy, I’d say for sure, Zoro wins but I feel that’s ignoring Katakuri as a character. I garentee if Katakuri where to encounter the strawhats again, he will have leveled up his game. Maybe combining armorment Haki with his mochi body to increase his durability. Wouldn’t that be f***ing broken.

I feel like the reason people overestimate observation haki is because it was the first advanced haki we saw used in a tough fight against our mc. I think people underestimate it because of how powerful advanced conquerers haki is. I think that future sight is neat but people had a lot more time to ruminate with it rather than advanced conquerers which we only just recently got. And the power scalers in the op fandom have been running around with the idea that the top tiers in op all have future sight and that's what makes them the best.

i think katakuri is a better fighter than king, but king is just simply way more durable and has a few more powerful attack imo, and zoro’s amount of attack he can take is crazy high so i doubt kat could take him down

I personally think the Speed difference is decisive here, especially with Kat having Long-Range attack options (Zoro can't just wait for Kat to close distance to land shots). On the other hand, mid-fight adaptations can go any direction Oda wants it to go. Due to that, speculation doesn't matter

I think people underestimate Zoro's hand to hand combat. Don't get me wrong, I don't think he can beat someone like sanji in hand to hand combat, but I do think he can keep up ( especially due to his far superior strength ) .

Kaido does have future sight. But, the thing about future sight is that when a character is using it, that character is seeing the future in first person, obviously. So, if a character is using future sight, they would have to face the correct direction when using it, so their "eyes in the future" can see what's about to happen a couple of seconds in the future. And then the character has to understand what they saw when using future sight in order for that person to use it effectively. For example; when Katakuri was fighting Snake Man, Katakuri had a hard time understanding why he kept getting hit. And that's because Snake Man attacks kept hitting Katakuri outside of his field of view. So when Katakuri peeked into the future, he had no idea why he kept getting hit. It was only until Katakuri decided to use future sight in different directions to see what was going on. And that's when he saw in the future that Snake Man's attack were hitting him outside his field of view at the very last second. And once he realized how exactly he was getting hit, then he was able to counter. That's basically how future sight works. I think future sight would be more effective against Zoro since Zoro's attack are far more straightforward than Snake Man's attacks. Zoro usually attacks an opponent from the front, and usually anime slice dash passed an opponent when Zoro is trying to deal a finishing moves. Zoro's moves are powerful, but usually straightforward. And because Zoro is a more straightforward fighter and not a tricky technical fighter, than future sight, should work well against him. Since Katakuri should see every single attack that Zoro dishes out. But, just as Liam said, this fight could go either way.

Katakuri was by the side of the emperor whole his life, I doubt that he was never told that one can infuse oneself or weapons with CH thus he was simply unable to do it. Like Kaido said, "what will this knowledge give you?" (or something like that). Knowing that it is possible does not necessarily imply that everyone can do it. Probably every first crewmate with CH (Katakuri, Reilegh etc) at some point becomes aware of this feature but in the end, it is all about their capability to actually apply it. Hence, Katakuri, though being one of my favorite characters, would not be able to learn advanced CH from Zoro whereas Zoro might still learn advanced OH.

With the level of advancement Kaido possesses, he obviously has future-sight. Also katakuri has conquerors he doesnt have 'conquerors infusion'.

I took it to mean that it doesn’t matter because luffy can’t hurt him and that he too can use future sight. As he proceeded to dodge luffy attacks . Luffy noticed that kaido was dodging his advanced armament blows

I'm gonna lean Katakuri for a bit of an odd reason, because part of the story arc of Whole Cake Island involves him overcoming his weakness to his perfectionism (such as his snack break,) so under the terms you provided I'd say his biggest limitation is a fraction of those imposed on Zoro, between two people who are largely otherwise evenly matched. (Since, whether intentionally or no, the entire Zoro endgame in Wano was a giant mind screw with no resolution.)

The thing with the ability to see the future in just a couple of seconds is that there are things you may not be able to avoid (you may be able to react but not have enough time to get out of the way). Say you know a nuclear bomb 500 meters from you (I know this is extreme) will explode in the next 3 seconds. Sure you can start running but the blast will still catch you if you cannot get outside of its blast radius within the next 3 seconds. Or this could end up like the Charles vs Hakari fight if Zoro in his current form can attack or launch an attack faster than Katakuri's reaction speed or in such a way that he ends up having a blind spot or no way to evade. Zoro definitely can throw a barrage of attacks so broad in scope that the opponent's only move is to tank it, in that sense, running away can be taken out as an option and would make the future sight not as effective but only good at making you "feel" pain twice.

My logic is that while Zoro is strong enough to beat mochi man, Katakuri is unmatched in skill and experience. He's got so many decades on Zoro in sheer amount of experience that Zoro can't touch him. Zoro's used conquerors haki maybe 3 times while Kata has it on lock

Just imo, Ik Katakuri has CoC which is usually a deciding factor, but for me, King's Lunarian hacks and his attack power are OP. Maybe if Katakuri can use his future sight to somehow figure out King's Lunarian-ness, then maybe.. Like if Zoro was able to work it out, then Katakuri has a solid chance imo. I find this super interesting bc it makes me think of MMA. In that the matchup can be super important. Like a fighter that beat a fighter that beat a third fighter, can still lose to the fighter that lost to the fighter they beat. It's super interesting to me how the math does not always work out. If any real power scaling were to be done here, I guess that what it really comes down to is who had the stronger commander? Kaido or Big Mom? If you start with the premise that King is above Katakuri, then Zoro wins easily. So for this to really be a fight you need to first establish that Katakuri is going to be a generally more powerful fighter than King which is difficult as they both have so few showings. I think we all know Zoro will eventually be the strongest yonko commander out there, but he's not there yet, so it's just a matter of where he is on the scale, which is likely above King and Shiryuu with Ben Beckmann and Katakuri as the unknowns.

I think using enma is more taxing than using future sight. So its zoro that needs to end things quickly. Not katakuri

Kaido does have future sight. Literally scene by scene in episode 1074. Literally the exact same as Katakuri (the noise) the lines that turn into squares.. and the shot it’s self when it zooms into Kaido’s eye is the same.

Yah know, I kinda hate how we label them “advanced” conquerors or “advanced armament haki. Makes it seem as if you a fundamental usage of the haki and then level it up in usage. But we all know that doesn’t apply to Zoro. He didn’t even know he had conqueror’s haki until he was spamming the advanced form. It just seems like a form of application to me.

Barring any unforeseen powerup. I think this depends heavily on why they are fighting. If a friendly or competitive bout, I give Zoro a slight edge for eventually landing a hit and ending it. However we have seen time and time again the effect of Zoro raw animal-like fear Zoro can provoke with or without Haki. He's made a very confident opponent lose control over her body and just fall apart. Stack his CoC on top of this and even thought I'm sure it wouldn't break Katakuri, I'd bet the Primal terror mixed with the reality of getting his by a kaido winding attack is enough to make Future sight hard to concentrate on. Imagine every time you glance into the future you see a demon kill you in one shot. How calm do you think you're going to stay?

You forgot that Katakuri has the power of awakening, he can immobilize Zoro and then he can use him as a punching bag or he can choke Zoro out of breath with too many Mochi just like he did with Luffy or he can directly take Zoro's swords. Not to mention Katakuri can attack almost any angle with hig speed

Just a thought but all emperors would have to have mastered most of all haki to be where they are other than the voice of all things which I do think is a form of advanced observation but it can’t be kearned. Wano really broke the one piece powerscale by giving Luffy absolutely stupid boosts in power, making base Luffy be stronger and possibly faster than G4 bounceman and then got more boosts on top of that, and Zoro still hangs around his power. So you can either think all Wano characters are stronger than Katakuri or the more logical bandaide to this issue is Katakuri was weaker in his fight with Luffy because he had no will to fight, and is actually much stronger than we saw

Kaido had future sight, when Luffy was using it in the fight at one point kaido asked him if he thinks he's the only one capable of doing it, it wasn't shown if he used it but then luffys hits stopped landing

I'm a zoro fan, so I can't really make a reasonable decision on this matter. That being said it would be a very close match. It would take only a few if not just one hit for zoro to win but with future sight there's just no telling when zoro could land that hit. In the long run its all just hypothetical because I doubt that this fight will ever happen. If big mom is gone/dead then it would come down to who will take command of her pirate crew. The first or second son.

I would give this to Katakuri for a couple of reasons. One - a lot of the stuff that you mentioned about Katakuri's pride being a source of weakness should be out the window after Katakuri's fight with Luffy. As far as I understood, Katakuri getting rid of his scarf was symbolic of him throwing away this perfect being persona. Two - Zoro has to be significantly slower than Gear Second Luffy since Zoro has no speed boosts comparable to Gear Second, and Katakuri was shown to outspeed Gear Second with relative ease.

The flaw of Katakuri's fruit is because it's not a logia. Correct me if I'm wrong, but there are no panels nor anime screen time where even when mochified did Katakuri split completely in half. His body must remain completely attached even if by a string of mochi. Kizaru was split in half and Crocodile's head was severed. They regenerated. Sure Katakuri can shoot his fist out but I think that's a distinction - a move vs an injury. Zoro is not the kind to pull his sword swings short just because he feels like that should be enough, especially if there's the illusion of Katakuri being a logia. Could katakuri control his mochi to wrap around the sword slicing through him and maintain that connection? Maybe. My thoughts favor Zoro.

Zoro can punch, he can use his "ichi gorilla ni gorilla" which in hindsight, kind of like a "level 1" armament haki the invisible armor
