Santa Fe Fiesta begins today with burning of a giant puppet in the evening. Expected 40,000 Santa Feans are going to gather on the baseball field and chant "Burn it, burn it". As this voodoo ceremony has taken place for over 80 years local people believe in redemption from all the sins they made during the year. I'm not going to do the penance in the evening. Instead, I came in the morning to see Zozobra in full light with school children running around. The preparation for the event is meticulous and costly, including the rows of toilets. The tickets costs $20.
Santa Fe Fiesta začíná dnes večer pálením obrovské loutky jménem Zozobra. Odhadem 40,000 občanů a turistů se přijde podívat na pohanský obřad a křičet sborem "Spalte ji, spalte ji". Tato ceremonie se koná každoročně snad už víc než osmdesát let a jejím účelem je spálením Zozobry odčinit hříchy za poslední rok. Nehodlám jít večer na pokání, ale šel jsem se na baseballové hřiště podívat ráno, když byla Zozobra v plném světle a kolem pobíhaly děti místo vyučování. Příprava je pečlivá a nákladná, což dokazují řady mobilních záchodů. Lístky stojí dvacet dolarů jeden.
