Vanhal was a bohemian composer, who lived mainly in Italy and Austria. He was greatly influenced by the so-called Mannheim school. He was one of the first composers to earn his life independently from a court or a protector. Here, he dares something not usual: a concerto for double bass, which does not offer the lyric range of the cello: the treble part is less expressive. The experience is fully conclusive. The contrabass which is most often playing at the octave of the cello in clssical music for orchestra can have a voice of his own.

2nd best recording of this on RU-vid. Rinat is something else. This is a close second. Bravo

I don’t think the two are comparable, this is a live performance, Rinat’s was studio recorded.

The soloist is more than a technician; he's a true musician. Thank you for this wonderful interpretation. It was exciting!

Wonderful performance ! I can't help but listen to it over and over again and the slow movement each time moves me to tears. There is such a complicity and an empathy between the orchestra and the soloist. Thank you so much for sharing ♥ ♥ ♥

That's a great, lively and spirited performance!! Thanks for that!! :) Just wondering, is that a Krattenmacher bass?!

Dear Jorge, thank you for the kind words! To your question: yes, it's a Krattenmacher solo model. Stefan has built it for me in 2010, and I can ensure you since then I'm more than happy with this great bass!

You're very welcome!! I'm sure you are, as I have one also, same model!!! He's such great luthier and person!!! I recognised it immediately, also the sound!! Just wanted to make sure my eyes and ears were not mistaken...! ;)

I love the way you play this. Some players seem to drain it of all life by attemptong a so-called authentic style. Bravo.

@zsoltfejervari6850 7 лет назад
Dear George, thank you for your kind words! The cadenza of the first movement is a shortened version of a cadenza by Heinz Karl Gruber. The cadenzas of the second and third movement are both written by me. If you are interested, I gladly send you the score, just write me a mail. You can find my mail address on my website: www.zsoltfejervari.com All the best to you: Zsolt

Really fine playing! Great intonation and lovely singing tone. Would love to know who made your bow(?) Is it a Sartory?
@zsoltfejervari6850
@zsoltfejervari6850 5 лет назад
Thank you for the kind words! My bow is made by F. Günter Hoyer, Markneukirchen, Germany. An incredible family of bowmakers with great tradition of 225 years... (Otto A. Hoyer studied and worked in Sartory's Paris workshop ☺️). Check the Hoyers on FB: m.facebook.com/pages/category/Musical-Instrument-Store/F-Günter-Hoyer-Bogenbau-120314118054008/?locale2=hu_HU

Thank you for the comment about the bow. It helped me notice that the sound of the bass is beautiful, although I don't know how much of that sound is due to the bowing, which is great.

I cannot really imagine how next to impossible it must be to a virtuoso on the BD and pull it off credibly like this ! What a wonderful 'spinning ' sound that is not cello but base at the same time.
