I sold all my zt knives for one primary reason - access to the lock bar while unlocking the blade is ridiculously shallow. The 0566 was almost impossible. They held value well, got a lot of money back on almost all those. I had the 0562, 0566, 0452, 0450. Loved many things about those, but they just weren’t practical enough for me. The 0562 was a little tough to part with.

I went to Indiana knives about a month ago and I was fighting with myself on getting a WE scoppio or a ZT 0452cf and in the end the WE scoppio was the clear winner due to the amazing action and the higher blade steel for the same price as the ZT.

We does build great stuff and your right the colabs are fantastic I know they have a sort of style that works for then but I would like to see some interesting mechanical inovations like they did with the 037

I really would have loved to have seen ZT make some full on production runs of their 0392 & even better yet their 0777! Being a big ZT owner/fan I'm disappointed that KAI seems to dump all of their time/energy/money into Kershaw but seemingly neglect ZT to the point where companies like WE, Bestech, Rike, etc are closing in on them & closing in fast!

I’m so new to the game in the past few years , I came to the collecting market when WE came out and JUST before Civivi came out ... I didn’t know what I was getting myself into. WE and Civivi are my idols but I know that ZT has been around a while. I dig ZT but I love the experimental ideas that WE do. They’re edgy. They’re cool. They’re nice looking and they get the good designers.

I'm actually really OK with ZTs number convention. Blocks of 100 each designated to a specific designer makes it easy to remember

I have no experience with anything WE has ever made, but I’d love to handle some, especially since every RU-vidr has raved about them for the last couple years. ZT on the other hand, was my introduction to high-end knives, and I’ve always loved them. Would love to see some new models from ZT.

I love the the blade shape on the Scorpion. Its pretty much a slimmed down version of my all time favorite blade shape, which is the Kizer John Gray GPB1(THUCK).

The question I'm setting here asking myself right nowhere is why does the bulk of my more expensive knives in my collection consist we We's and Reates and not ZTs and Benchmades. Only two being the ZT brand.

I find it difficult to judge. I have only one WE, and frankly, it is pretty awesome. (Not including Civics and Massdrop colaberatives). I have 8 ZTs. I am sure there is an affinity bias I have for ZT.

It's crazy because I was just thinking about WE vs ZT yesterday. I have a 0452 GLCF Sprintrun and a WE 910 037 (along with quite a few others from both but these are the most comparable) and I gotta say they are so close it's not even funny. Only thing that puts me off is WE has rather soft heat treatments while ZT doesn't produce a single knife that I'd consider "thin" behind the edge.

Huge fan of the ZT 0452 design. i have standard CF, G10 Sprintrun, and WBW Sprintrun versions of it. But the lockup geometry is just poor AF, squeeze the knife a bit and the lockbar will be pushed further and will get stuck. Going to have to carry a prybar/flathead to pry the lockbar open.

I entirely agree with you, old ZTs are a lot more attractive than late models. ZT is definitely losing ground to other brands, WE is a clear e.g. and the models of 2020 and 2021 are just ridiculous. I still like ZT, a lot, but they need to work on the design and even enhance the quality. Brands such as WE are releasing models frequently, really nice models indeed. I just think they are getting really expensive.

I've got a customized 0393 made from the "weird" standard production version that I think is how that model should have been in the first place (but as a sprint run.) All the hardware is swapped out for titanium hardware that's been anodized blue to match the frame and the Maximus style G-10 scales have been traded for carbon fiber scales that shadowbox the frame.

I didn't know the Off-Grid Scorpion was made by We. I actually just got the ZT 0562ti and the Off-Grid Scorpion V2 within a few days of each other. So far, both are pretty great. Scorpion is a slightly butter flipper, and 0562 has a slightly more attractive blade. Im not sure which one I like better, yet.

Perhaps I'm spoiled. My 1st premium knife was a WE. I'd like to get into American knives, but the designs are less appealing and they cost more. Also, many require you to purchase aftermarket scales to replace the cheap scales they come with.

I just ordered 3 different, yet very similar WE models. I’ve never owned any WE knives and decided that it’s finally time to get one. I bought 3 different ones just to check them out and decide which one(s) to keep. The first 2 knives I ever bought years ago were the ZT 0562cf and and 0452cf so I’ve been a ZT fan for a long time. I’m really excited to get these WE knives though.

Why do people worry about how a knife rides in a pocket? Does it matter if more is showing? Eventually you are going to need to take it out and use it. Which people will then know you have a knife anyway. It's not like you are going to go into the bushes or hide behind a car every time you need to cut something.

Because having a huge chunk of knife sticking up out of your pocket is annoying. It doesnt look good and it feels a bit awkward.

I have a ZT0460 that I just got about 3 weeks ago. I love it. 20cv, Ti. However, I have a loosening pivot that I have re loctited 2 times already. I just can’t seem to dial it in Anyone have thoughts?

Red loctite. Apply it with a tooth pick around the last two threads of the pivot so the threadlocker only comes into contact with the bushing once you are tightening it down. If done correctly you can loosen it without heat. Before the knife community says anything dumb I've got expensive knives that came this way from the manufacturer and blue can loosen if the knife fires hard.

Isn’t the ZT parent company now Chinese owned? I get the whole made in USA idea, but what’s worse the profits going to China (zt) or the labor and profit in US (off grid)

I dont think all profits go to china. Some do, but then again, the same could be said for a TON of US based companies utilizing a few outsourced parts. I wouldnt get too hung up on that. Also, almost everything you use daily including your phone/tv/computer aren't made here either. Might not be the most illuminating debate.

I'd love to see some newer Sinkevich ZTs that are a bit more beefy like the 0456, and obviously a newer hinderer zt would be nice. WE knife co is certainly excellent but I generally prefer the overbuilt nature of classic ZTs. Another Hawk collab would also sell like hotcakes I think.

The reason designers get their knives made by WE in China rather than a US maker is simple. Labor cost. Huge profit margin because Chinese labor is dirt cheap.

It's not "dirt cheap" at companies like WE. OEMS like WE and Reate pay a premium. China is no longer the low cost labor country it once was. Is it lower than what you'd find in Germany and the USA? For the most part, yes. However, there's a reason why big manufacturers like Seiko have relocated the production of lower-end items from China to places like Malaysia and the Philippines.

Carbon fiber is a gimmick. It’s cheaper than titanium and it makes the frame weaker.

I really hope ZT isn't dead, they are the gold standard for me. Anything less, and it's basically garbage to me. I have 1 We (Opus, amazing action), 3 Civivi's (1good, 1 decent, 1 bad action) and a handful of WE manufactured for other designers/makers and none of them have a good action. With the exception of the Opus, it's nearly impossible to tune them to open smooth AND not have blade play.

ZT should’ve kept the original full titanium frame. The carbon fiber isn’t appealing to everyone and also carbon fiber is weaker than titanium. They should’ve made titanium with carbon fiber inlaid. And get rid of that ugly ZT logo, it looks cheap.

ZT knives...as their marketing say. "...built ike tanks". But, not everyone is into liner-locks and would prefer compression or ball-bearing. A sitch on the side to release the blade from a locked position....I think ZT is another company that likes to rest on their laurels e.g. Fenix flashlights. well made but they aren't innovating and mmissing "key features" people want (no firely mode and no instanct access to turbo mode...digress)...

They are. But there's more to it. WE collaborates will small shop US knifemakers who can't produce enough products at a low enough price tag to keep their buyers happy. They produce larger batches at a lower price and in many cases this helps the US based small business owner grow MUCH larger. They also often buy US steel directly from crucible. Are you giving money to a Chinese company? Yes. More if it's an in house design. Are they bad for the US market? No. TLDR - it's not that simple.
