Thread: UNI 8/0 , Danville 6/0 o UTC 70, black.
Weigth: lead wire o lead tape, optional.
Tail: peacock swords.
Body: peacock herl.
Rib: silver oval tinsel.
Wing case: wooduck mallard flank feather.
Collar: soft and short brown hackle. I use hen necks.
This is a great fly, I really have not used a lot, but in hook number 10 was the favorite nymph of my fly tying mentor Carlos Govino, who knew how to make it fish very well in the waters of his beloved Rio Quillen and stressed the importance of achieve a "plump" silhouette on the fly to tie. Surely when Cliff Zug designs it in the 40s had in mind a multipurpose fly and really that's what it is.
We can use it as imitations of small nymphs dead drift or collect gently imitating small odonates in calm waters or small lakes or ponds, there are even those who use it to mimic larvae of caddisflies dragging their cases... Anyway must be current among the best for 70 years ... and Zug Bug what has been achieved.
