I don't know if you ever realized why they did sorcery speed, but the answer is they want Magic to be like Hearthstone. Their current design revolves around Arena and simplifying the game as much as possible so players don't have to think as much about what is across the table from them (and also prevents unintended effects like targeting incorrectly). Just slam dudes back and forth and occasionally cast an expensive, splashy spell. It also speeds up limited formats in the same way. No need to worry about activated abilities that buff or reanimate messing with combat math.
@@bitzelberg Sorry, I might not have included enough context, considering this video is quite old. At the end, you are discussing why they would restrict Minsc's effect to sorcery speed. Basically, WotC wants to limit the amount of things players have to consider when playing. This encourages them to play more aggressively and leads to more combat-centric strategies. Lowering that skill ceiling makes the game more "open" to new players by shrinking the skill gap between them and more experienced players.
