I don’t want to listen to gear reviews except this guy. Perfect amount of skill, perfect age and experience. And punishing tones always. This guy is king!
I guess this is a matter of Taste and some fun with clickbait :D Different Amps for different Sounds. Typical metalsounds are thinner. If you do Metal with this fat Sound people start calling it numetal and you suddenly have to do fat stuff instead of shredding. I like both, but this is no classic Metal Sound...
I have UA pedals as the heart of my rig, and they gave me a real loud hiss--even with isolated power. The Zuul completely solved the issue. It is like magic.
Can’t thank you enough for this tutorial. Years later and it’s still the best explanation for anyone grabbing an OG Zuul and running it thru the FX loop #EVH5153 probs
Great video. I used this set up on my triple rectifier except with a different overdrive and delay pedals and I love it. Where would you recommend putting a volume pedal and wah pedal in this signal chain?
Tried to zoom in to get a look at the settings on that jcm2000 but cant quite see them. Have a dsl50 myself, and that tone he is getting is great. Would love to get those settings so I can try it on mine. Also have the fortin zuul mini and love it.
Could you theoretically use the 2nd output of an MXR 10 band EQ into the key input of the Zuul? I don't have a tuner or splitter as of now, and was wondering if that could be a possible option.
Great video thank you for this. I just bought my Zuul Black out because the Airis effects Hades ultra was cutting it way to much on my cleans and not having a on off button sucks. Can’t wait to use the Zuul. Thanks for this information.
So technically your FX loop is in this chain always on? If the footswitch is connected, your effects would be always turned on and you stomp on the effects pedal to have the trails?
I thought the bypass output of the tuner is fed into the key input of the zuul.. Can you please elaborate why you are doing it the other way around in this video and why you wouldn't switch the connections around as I mentioned? Thanks for the vid!!
@@FortinAmps can you please post a video comparing how the function will be when using both methods? Everyone I know does it the way that I thought it was supposed to be meaning they're feeding the bypass out from the tuner to the key input not the way in the example in this video so I'd like see the results please.
@@KevorkianMetal If the key input still receives signal, the gate will open and close i.e. controlled by that signal. That is why it is best to feed the key with the OUTPUT from the tuner as that gets muted when in tuner mode.
@@KevorkianMetal I think it will stay silent because the 'normal' signal will be muted.. so the key input will recieve a muted signal.. so the gate remains closed. In your example the muted signal will go trough your normal chain causing it to stay silent.. but the bypass signal will go to the key input so it will open the gate meaning all the noise from the preamp will be let trough the zuul if you play a note. Thats how I think it works..
Damn you fixed a problem I had with my Zuul, I had the bypass of my TU3 plugged into the key of the Zuul which let a little a bit of signal passing by when mute/according. A annoying little bzzz when hiting the string... But now I interverted them and it's silent as hell :D Amazing! Now who's at Boss decided that Bypass=signal and output=mute? hahaha
Bypass = signal & Output = mute because it's a tuner pedal and it's normal operation is "OFF / BYPASS" The *MUTE* is When the pedal is ON because when people use a tuning pedal they want the sound muted while they do it. Lol it's like double reverse psychology
I tried this and it eliminated the silent tuning. Worked great as a splitter but once I turned the tuner on the bypass signal still came through. Wonder if my dime wah with the 2 outputs will help out
So if i were to use an EQ in the loop with the zuul. How would that be? Sorry for the stupid question :O Would it be. Send > Zuul in, Zuul out MXR in > mxr out>return? Sorry, all the ins and outs is confusing haha.
So i have the Decimator II but for some reason - just never seem to find the setting where I think it's working well and not killing tone. I've tried several configs. This seems a lot simpler to me. Any reason I should consider the big pedal over the mini? Great and effective demo.
So if I take an mxr 10 band send one send off that to the zuul then the other into my mt2 (even though it’s recommended to go thru your effects.) and other distortions to the front of my amp head, then the send from the amp head goes into the send of the zuul and thru the rest of my delay modulation then back into the return of the amp head... is that right. I know the eq isn’t the same as what you got going on or a buffer but in theory it would work right? Or I could just throw the mt2 before all the modulations for an extra sludge out sound right?... so many cords LoL
Maybe this is a dumb question, but why would you run the output of the tuner into the key input and not through the front? Is it to avoid muting the output while tuning? I thought it was great that you could tune silently and you don't really need a gate while tuning.
Someone asked this on the Fortin Facebook Group and Mike had this to say: "So when you step on the tuner, the output of the tuner will mute the gate via the key input causing it to close and act as a system mute." Hope that helps.
@@killertone gotcha, so this helps in cutting any background hum from the amp while still being able to tune right? Thanks for your answer. Definitely going to check out the Zuul asap.
Can i use this with a Peavey 5150 split from roach into effects loop....signal chain is guitar to roach..from roach 1 i go to key input then the input of zuul to send of effects loop..out of the zuul im going to a mooer ocean machine..out of ocean machine i then go to return of effects loop....effects after zuul in effects loop....from roach 2 im going through a horizon devices nano attack straight to front of head....from roach 3 i have a dead end polytune 3 mini....another question...where in this chain can i put my mxr cae 404 wah pedal? thanks for your time
Using Dunlop dvp4. So, tuner/exp out of dunlop to boss tu3, bypass of the tu3 to zuul key input, out of dunlop to rest of signal chain. This sound right? My chain consists of Dunlop dpv4, boss tu3, revv g4, mxr m108s 10 band eq, then using zuul at end of chain.
Hi there, I'm looking for a mini noise gate for my mini pedalboard that I can send to the front of my practice amp that doesn't have an effects loop. Rather than using the key input, couldn't I just place the mini Zuul after my tuner for the same effect?
With the ZUUL on while you play it almost sounds like the signal gets boosted in volume but I think that must be almost illusory because the signal is so quiet. Good demo. I want to buy a ZUUL mini now. Is this good for high gain active pickups like EMG 81 and 85’s?
There is no volume boost whatsoever I assure you. Yup works with any pickup because you use the key to trigger the gate. I am using high output Fishman pickups in this video.
Hi Jason, love your videos man! I realize this video is old and you might not answer but I have this same setup. When I hook it up this way I get bleed through when the tuner is engaged. When I switched the two jacks on the left side of the tuner it solved the issue. Could it be that I'm using the TU-3 as opposed to the 2? Thanks Mike - LevRage
@@FortinAmps Hi, thank you for the reply. As I stated earlier I had it hooked up identical to this video with the same setup. I get bleed through when the tuner is engaged. IDK, maybe I have a defective tuner. Things that make you go hmm. Love that Hexdrive in my JCM 800 though.
The ISP does not have a key input. As I explained in the video, the key input does not pass audio, it only triggers the gate from a clean unprocessed guitar signal.
Can I use just the zuul and Ibanez tube screamer together or It won’t completely solve all the unwanted noise??? I don’t have a tuner or splitter. Please help lol
Sure, just use it in 2 CM method, you don't have to use the key input. TS out into the ZUUL in, then ZUUL out to input of amp. Anything further, please contact us at info@fortinamps.com
@@FortinAmps ok awesome thank you again. I emailed the email u provided but u responded on here first. Thank you. I will purchase this today!! 🤘🏼 Also one last quick thing , What is your guys dirtiest pedal that will influence the tone n gain and just brutal up a chug. That signature fortin gritty chug I wanna accomplish. Which would you suggest?
@@killertone both my boss tu2 and boss tu3 waza craft are not completely silent when tuning. and sometimes when playjng a quick thrash riff, when i suddenly stop ill get a little bit or trail or ghost effect. ive had the threshold as high as almost 3 oclock.
@@FortinAmps will be any significant signal loss or it will damage any chain pedal/amp/guitar using a Hosa Y cable solution? Which one is the best choice, the hose Y Cable, a passive splitter or a buffered splitter?
Check out the video from this point: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YgbTjjn7y9Y.html guitar to tuner to hexdrive to input of amp. Zuul and Delay in the loop.
has anyone tried the zuul into a engl savage thru the fx loop? I cant seem to get the thing to work properly. I have no problems with the zuul in the fx loop of my peavey xxx head.
@@FortinAmps thanks for the response; what do you mean by "series"? I have it in the send/return of the master loop. (its got a balance knob with a "dry" and "effect" position) which i have fiddled with but still to no avail
@@FortinAmps So you can run it in your normal signal chain (like after a distortion, wah, and EQ pedal, for example) with one cable in and one cable through the front of the amp and it'll work fine?
What’s crazy to me is that I want to buy a Zuul simply because Fortin put out a *short* easy to understand video tutorial on how to use it the way I play (switching between clean and high gain). I’ve wasted so much time on longer, less informative videos.
Hello :) i have the boss tu3 w and the fortin zuul, do you know why my fuzz and overdrive sound better when i invert de two output on the tuner ? Bypass out - key input The top output - input fuzz
