Great review. Several thoughts: I doubt 99.9% people will use the rear camera of their phone to vlog without seeing the screen. The great advantage of Z-V1 is cinematic control and the ability to match the look to their mirrorless cameras. In auto daytime ZV1 seems to have less DOF than because it's closing down aperture.
I bought zv-1 after i saw your zv1 vs 6400 video, one of my best decision ever, perfect camera to change my old canon g7x. Pocket camera is always be my charm, easy and simple to use, but still maintain great quality. I still prefer zv1 over iphone12 because smartphone camera always have sway or flatten effect due to smaller sensor no matter how good the image quality is.
Another great camera comparison video. One segment I think you could add is inside studio setting comparisons. A lot of people who might be interested in becoming streamers/RU-vid would be interested in the studio setting performance. I’ve used my iPhone in studio setup before and it does quite well if the lighting is good.
Very good point. I didn't want to make this video too much longer, but maybe if enough people would like to see it, I'll make a shorter follow up comparing these 2 cameras indoors. Thanks for the suggestion. 👍
ZV-1 wins at all points except two. I have watched a lot videos and smartphones have better image stabilization and slightly better at low light performance. But ZV-1 has way better details when photoshoot faces, much better audio quality and video performance. When comes to photos, ZV-1 is obvious winner with better colours and zoom details. If Sony ZV-1 had a better image stabilization could be the best camera 📷 in the world and for its price. But for $800 it stills the best pocket camera, but soon Sony has to reduce its prices because smartphones are so close and impressive. Still with a smartphone you can do a lot things more than a camera, it offers more. But clearly for photos and videos ZV-1 is a clear winner 🏆 as Rx 100 vii.
@@A12Diary yes it is. But i will do a smartphone with big capacity of battery and worse image quality photos? The most important factor is image quality. I have bought two extra batteries and a charger @$60 and i have the same battery capacity with a smartphone but first class images.
Both are good and it depends for what purpose you need it. I like to watch the screen on the ZV1 when I'm talking to the camera, but the portability of the iPhone is indeed an extra point. In my opinion they complement each other.
Good review, here's my thoughts: The lowlight test wasn't completely equal because the Sony got to utilize the light from the screen, it helps a little bit, not much tho. The iPhone is much better at pulling information from the highlights than the Sony zvi. The Sony is severely limited by it's closer field of view. If you needed to , you could have gone to the wide angle on the iPhone and gotten a lot wider than the Sony can offer. The iPhone is very limited on its zoom capability and the Sony is not so much. I didn't notice a very shallow depth of field difference between the Sony and the iPhone. Were you shooting at f1.8? If you were , I am kind of disappointed by the depth of field of the sony. Once iPhones can simulate a shallow depth of field in videos, there will be very little reason to have a point and shoot or even a full frame.
The screen probably gave a slight advantage to the ZV1. The dynamic range was definitely better on the iPhone, but in my opinion at times looks a little too good, almost fake. As for the aperture, I was shooting the ZV1 in automatic mode to make a more fair comparison with the iPhone. As a result the depth of field wasn't as shallow as it could have been. In most of my other ZV1 videos I usually shoot in aperture priority which definitely makes a difference.
I think with the next iPhone 13 my zv1 will be sold during Xmas. I have the a7c now to replace my a7r iii but it’s causing me to sell my zv1 also. I will depend on my GoPro 10 and pocket 2 for small camera uses. Then the a7iv will arrive and I will question everything. Ha. Fun to play.

Iphone seems to do some sort of exposure weirdness.. and shadow partly in frame maybe its vignet moving in shot by the stabilization..
The Iphone 12 Pro only has HDR up to 30 fps, the Pro Max enables it up to 60 fps. 8 bit vs 10 bit, theres a serious difference as more & more devices support viewing HDR content now. Besides the yellowish tinge Iphones are known for, in good light colours look better on the Iphone cause of this IMO.
Each one of them has its pros and cons, but iPhone is defo more versatile and that stabilization is so ahead that I think its worthy over that little image quality advantage you get with the ZV-1. It would be nice if you had also showed what camera you used with the iPhone. Great vid. Thanks!!
Yes, the iphone stabilization is far superior. Te image quality is actually nor very different, for me it comes down to not wanting to tie up my phone the whole time I'm filming and I'm just not as comfortable with the workflow using my phone. Sorry if I failed to mention it during the video, but I used the iphone's main forward facing (best quality) camera for the entire video. It was the lens that matched closest to the ZV1.
@@mikik7923 I got you. My bad. I misunderstood the original question. I would guess the iPhone to have a bit better weather resistance than the ZV1, just because of the nature of its construction.I’m not aware of an IP rating for the ZV1.
No, cameras will NEVER go away. Phones, in my humble opinion will never be able to be better than cameras. If you want better photo or video quality you will have to get a camera.
the weird skin tones are the deal breaker for me. i prefere a blown out sky every time over a processed looking face from my family. but i like how good smartphone cameras have become. (I own a RX100M4 and the Oneplus8pro)
@@HotCarTrack HDR is off in the stock camera app. HDR turned on on the OP8pro looks very weird. But there is still some processing going on like on the iphone. I think it I tried filmic pro and the footage was very similar to the stock app. Have to try it again with a closer look at the settings :) I have heard filmic pro is on a different level for the Iphones.
The inconsistency of the iPhone image is shocking. It keeps changing background focus and light constantly as you move. It can't keep it constant. Can't make it's mind up. It catched my eye a whole lot. I don't like that at all. Also, in the lowlight conditions, it got crushed by the zv1. I believe the Sony is better in every aspect, but the iPhone gets props because it's a phone. Though, you could get much, much better image quality on Android side of things. So then the competition would be even closer.
@@TaskForceMediaGroup definitely not a bad option, especially as you have your phone with you at all times. I'd still rather carry the zv1 for shooting though.
@Guilherme the best camera is the one you have with you. This is where the iPhone wins, it's always in your pocket. Everywhere else though, not great. If you'd be a vlogger, this inconsistencies would be eye catching. I recently bought a sony alpha 6400. I'm excited to start playing with it. Today I'm gonna receive it's lens kit, I'm curious what it can do on video and photo side.
Very good point. Everyone’s needs are different. I personally don’t like tying my phone up as my vlogging camera. I didn’t mention the cost difference because they are so different. The iPhone is essentially a small computer in your pocket and the ZV1 is only a camera. Thanks for watching.
iphone is good for ordinary people who want to record memories, sony is good for vlogs has more options for video and is also easier to use sony zv1 rotary screen built-in nd filters 1 inch matrix bokeh good in poor lighting catalist stabilization weight the sound is built in very well memory cards iphone better battery weight instead of a new iphone it is better to buy sony zv1 plus pocket 2 dji this link is used by professional journalists / bloggers
