Geekimus Prime if Hasbro ever gets bored with Power Rangers, the Japanese company is always an option. I mean, even Bandai of America and Bandai of Japan could merge if they wanted to with this arrangement.
True facts: Jeff Pruitt was the American producer of the Zyu2 footage. He and a few of the US Stunt crew traveled to Japan to consult with the Japanese Stunt crew and to observe how the Japanese shoot the scenes for tips to make the action scenes less jarring between the US and Japanese footage. 2: Este didn't mention one major Zyu2 scene. The interaction between Green and Black Rangers that led to Tommy lending the Dragon Shield to Zack. That never happened in the original Zyuranger as the Dragon Ranger mainly interacted with the Tyranno Ranger. 3: Many of the original Zyuranger suit actors reprised their roles in the Zyu2 footage. The others who weren't available were busy shooting Dairanger footage. 4: There was also Zyu1.5 footage of Goldar closeups, mainly of him talking. In the original Zyuranger Goldar (Or Grifforzer) rarely talked. In fact in the beginning of the show he suffered a curse that made him mute that was tough for Rita to break, leading him to not speak for a good portion of the original series. 5: Toei also worked closely with Saban and Disney on future Sentai Seasons to greater cater to the tastes of the Western Viewers. In the case of some of the Disney produced seasons Toei shot most of the action scenes in New Zealand so the Disney producers can better adapt the footage. The scene in Dekaranger when DekaMaster fought 100 enemies was shot in New Zealand and additional footage of the fight was shot just for Power Rangers SPD. Some Action Scenes of Magiranger and Boukengar were shot in NZ also.
I actually figured that's why powers rangers changed location to New Zealand so they can make scenes more close to the original footage, and I think also for budget reasons
@@PatZalatoris that may also explain how Toei came to the conclusion to use the SPD Battlizer for Ban/Dekared, even though it was only used once in the Magiranger VS Dekaranger special.
@@GiNgertheman and you didn't understand my reply I'm saying Super Sentai wasn't made for power rangers and when Super Sentai was started Saban doesn't even know about it
I would strongly recommend you watch Zyuranger - even if you're not much of a Sentai fan, it puts ALL the battles into a new context if you've only ever watched Power Rangers. As far as magic goes, the team gets their powers from the Guardian Beasts, who are viewed as god-like beings. Goushi (Mammoth Ranger) is more of a level-headed voice of reason on the team while Dan (Tricera Ranger) is inexperienced and a little clumsy which shows in his fighting style, which fits Billy's early fighting capability in Season 1. There's even an episode where Dan and Mei fall under the influence of one of Bandora's spells / potions which causes them to become rebellious, which I think inspired Kimberly and Billy's behaviour in a very similar plot-line.
Yep Power Punks is the only episode in Season 1 that adapts a Sentai plot but in Power Rangers they just ask obnoxious demand lunch money and say dorks a lot. In Zyuranger they shoot up the Yakuza and take their money and cocaine. Significantly more hardcore
You reminded me of the shenanigans Saban did to keep the Zyuranger suits. I get wanting to keep the Zyuranger suits for merchandising purposes, but the hoops and sharks they jumped through throughout MMPR were ridiculous. At least they built up the hype for the transition to the Ohranger suits.
1. Dragonzord = Dragon Caesar 2. Dino Megazord = Daizyujin aka God. He is sentient in the Sentai version. He can speak and sometimes acts without the rangers inside him. 3. Green Ranger = Dragon Ranger aka Burai. He is only present from episode 17 to 42 and between those episodes not featured in all. He finally dies in Episode 42 and Tyranno Ranger gets the Dragon shield and sword flute to become master of Dragon Caesar. Dragon Ranger is the big brother of Tyranno Ranger aka Geki. 4. White Ranger =Kiba Ranger aka Kou. Kou is the son of the evil group leader Shadam. HE has a brother who is also evil named Akomaru. He also appears in episodes 17 - 44. Also he is not in all the episodes in that range. Kou is a young kid who changes into Kiba Ranger with his sword Byakko and temna changer. When he is Kiba Ranger the sword Byakko acts as his voice. 5. Saban asked Toei to shoot more footage for them due to the toy rights. They could have just kept the green ranger alive but I will never know why they only adapted Kiba Ranger from Dairanger and not the other suits. 6. Akibaranger Season 2 episode "Delusional Imports" makes fun of the "American-nized" version of Zyurangers which is now called Powerful Rangers. It makes light of how the extra Zyu 2 footage was used to make MMPR
I think the main reason why they adapted the white ranger was due to the fact that in the sentai footage they were using his zords all wound up being white. It fit with the colors, so I can see why they used it. It also was sort of a marketing tactic in which it'd make kids wonder when Tommy would appear again, given he was most people's favorites. Aside from just that though, it allowed for a lot of new American only footage, so I'm fine with that.
@@firstlast-ey4ly Wrong...First of all they filmed new footage using the existing suits for MMPR. The reason for the shift was not because the suits were white, that was an after thought. It was because they filmed new footage using Dairanger mecha which eventually they would have to transition him to white due to Wan Tiger being a white zord/mecha. Furthermore with the onset of Kakuranger they had to make even more edits as yes the leader just so happened Ninja White . It was coincidence at best not the fact that everything was going to be white lol!!
@@superroboted I sort of just said that but maybe I didn't word it correctly. Point is, what I meant was that some of the zords were white thus having a green ranger pilot a white zord would be strange, so they made him the white ranger so the zord colors matched up. This change was able to be kept when they switched to Kakuranger footage thanks to both the Falconzord and the Shogun Megazord having a white zord as a component. Tho there was the time where they brought back Titanus and the color swapped to pink but it doesn't matter, lol. Also one more thing to note is that apparently that plans to make Tommy the white ranger existed for quite a bit, since there's concept art of the Tigerzord combining with the OG dinozords. This would've involved "Zyu3" footage and I would've loved to have seen that but oh well.
I noticed in Zyu2 the Rangers had a mixture of their ZyuRanger and Power Rangers personalities. For example, the ice blaster to fight Saliguana looked like it was co-invented by the Black Ranger and Blue Ranger, with the Blue Ranger jumping into battle during the time when the Black Ranger was fixing the freeze gun. Also, the Blue Ranger just happened to have a couple mirrors that helped defeat a couple monsters. In "The Mutiny" the signal blocking device was invented by the Blue Ranger and it showed him and the Yellow Ranger running up, which worked with the idea of in Power Rangers how often Billy and Trini worked together, but Blue Ranger still made the silly "battery in backwards" mistake that Dan would have made. And although there's closeness indicating a relationship between Green and Pink, we see Red and Green maintain their brother-like relationship.
The only episode that felt out of place in MMPR S1 with the Zyu2 footage was in Putty on the brain when Billy and Zack were fighting the lizard monster and Billy was the one being the decoy while Zack was the one fixing the machine of the week. Very weird how they missed that when the American crew was giving them the scripts.
They didn’t back then cause they wanted the show to be an over arching story unlike super sentai that was serialized so they just gave them the zords from the next 2 season but when season 3 came about power rangers actually reversed the zords from that season cause the first megazord was what we called the shogun megazod that was our more powerful zords and the animal megazord was the more powerful megazord in the Japanese version
Having watched both Zyuranger Dairanger, I personally think they should have switched to the Dairanger costumes when Jason, Zack, and Trini left. They already stopped using Toei footage at that point for Ranger battles. The spliced in Dairanger footage with Zyu 2 was awful though.
The one that always stuck out to me was when their Zords/Ancient Dinosaurs in the 1st episode of MMPR S1 beat Goldar but in Zyu they haven't obtained them yet, this in turn caused a huge plot hole in episode 2 of Saban's version why Jason was the only one with his despite them having access to them in the 1st episode... Saban likely used footage from a much later episode didn't they? In true Saban style they used parts of later episodes in the 1st episode and used the shuttle as a locator at least in the remastered version which didn't serve a porpoise later on as it's context was lost from the original!
Thanks Este I was confused because dan from zyuranger the blue ranger had all these hi tech stuff and you can tell when it’s Japan footage he had a blaster and some mirror thing you taught me something today thanks!
I would pay for a DVD of Zyu2 footage. Cuz not all of it was used, particularly cuz of the addition of the Thunderzords. Make it happen, Hasbro. I love how in the end, season 3 was a mish-mash of Zyuranger, Dairanger, and Kakuranger. And for the most part, color coordination between the Zyuranger suits, and the Dairanger/Kakuranger mecha actually worked lol
Goushi was called the Knight of Wisdom, but he wasn’t so much the smart guy as he was the no-nonsense guy. You really should watch these old shows. You don’t even need to buy the Shout! Factory DVDs anymore, VRV has all of their translations available to stream. So far, they have Jetman (the smash hit that came before Zyuranger) through Hurricaneger (the source show for Ninja Storm).
I think Zach is more of a Devil may care than comic relief. I totally recommend that you watch Zyuranger and Dairanger. It's the same special effects we get over here obviously but the writing and the characters are way darker.
I'm not gonna lie, watching this got me feeling glad I never knew about all the Super Sentai stuff when I was watching this as a kid. I'd have been way too confused for my own good, lol. Good stuff to find out now, though!
No he still had a package, the infamous crouch down bulge shot meme is from bloom of doom. They did have him make more feminine poses so he was clearly suppose to be a girl
There was also planned Zyu3 Footage, which would’ve consisted of 6 New American-Exclusive Zords. These would’ve acted as upgrades to the Original 5 Dinozords, and the Won Tiger (Tigerzord) from Dairanger would’ve been redesigned to better match with the 5 Upgraded Dinozords.
@@hiEste Sure, there's not much out there, but there is some concept art showing what the Zords would've potentially looked like. i.redd.it/3hai57xcisp21.jpg
The title is pretty misleading. All Saban did was hire the company in Japan to shoot more footage for more seasons to come. Which ultimately didn't do Might Morphin Power Rangers much favor because the Zyu 2 footage wasn't able to sell more toys. So here comes the white ranger and thunder zords.
There were some things from Zyuranger that didn't get used until after Doomsday. You may already know this, but the Octoplant (episode was 'Rita's Seed of Evil'... I think) , and Goaton the Stormbringer (from the 'Lions and Blizzards' episode) were Zyuranger monsters (Dora Narcisis and Dora Chimera if memory serves) that had been skipped, and they used Pudgy Pig (Dora Circe) again, and 'Crystal of Nightmares' was pretty much a clip show... perhaps to buy time for the Zyu2 footage to arrive, but it's hard to say for sure. The Goldar & Scorpina vs Dragonzord battle in Return of an Old Friend part 2 was Zyuranger footage that they didn't use for Green With Evil because Burai turned against Bandora after Daizyujin was defeated and tried to take over the Earth himself before he was turned good, whereas Tommy stayed under Rita's spell until Jason freed him.
Nope it was made specifically for Power Rangers which is why Green and Pink were a couple, Yellow was treated as a girl, Blue made gadgets, the Rangers spoke into their wrists (their communicators) and the Rangers teleported. In Zyuranger Green and Pink never interacted, Blue was a moron, Yellow was a dude, the ZyuRangers didn’t use communicators and couldn’t teleport
Also regarding the green rangers shield.. it looked different in zyu2. Obviously you can tell the differnce netween american original footage vs Japanese footage because the English version had a cheap cloth thingy but in zyu2, the shield looked more gold than usual.
It’s just like Voltron had additional 20 animated episodes made for the U.S. by Toei for season 2 of Lion Force Voltron after Golion ended its run two years before Voltron.
@@PissedGrunty They did order new episodes as they brought the rights to Go-Lion since it wasn't a real success in Japan as it was in America and the Lion series was more popular then Voltron Vehicle force so they ordered the 20 episodes which is why Lion force is 72 episodes and the animation looks different (they used a different company) from the first 52 episodes and Merla isn't in the original series.
i see being that you having seen the zyuranger show, dragon ranger aka the green ranger dies in that show which is why you notice the story line for tommy and the way he appears as a last min rescue was because they wasnt no more footage for dragon ranger and thats why tommy's story of his green ranger had ended with the candle.
but this will make toei more work to do especially for PR even though PR used footage, suit, zord etc....Saban need to make their own footage but yeah PR is popular than SS and people doesnt give shit to SS and pamper PR which is suck
@@paradeoxys0284 would that be a bad thing? Work is work whether it's sentai or power rangers. My experience of sentai has been on RU-vid but the story quality is there where its been lacking in power rangers. PR I feel is too restricted by the source material on stories and characters.
Devil's advocate: If the Power Transfer is an inevitability than color change, the Tigerzord green and then Green leads. Doubt it would have cost much more.
@@meolson97 Yes. We got a Chopped up Pumpkin Rapper battle in Season 2 with Tommy as the White Ranger, even though the Ranger Battle for it was in Season 1 and used the Power Blaster Death scene. All Zyu 2 Battles feature a Power Blaster and a Zord Death scene. Saliguana was used in Season 2. Spliced with Dai Ranger footage. No Green Ranger present.
you know ever since Super Megaforce came adaptable from Gokaiger they used those suits of Dairanger and named it Squadron in a certain episode debut of the suits and since Dairanger is the second season after Zyuranger and since some aspects of the series came into Mighty Morphin and they never adapted any more of it like the suits that could’ve maybe be a second suit formation kind of like Megaforce into Super Megaforce suits I’m surprised they didn’t do that for Mighty Morphin and since they named the suits as Squadron in Super Megaforce that would of been a second suit formation but instead of doing that they finally used the suits in Super Megaforce as the name Squadron in the series if you know what i mean but there is a video that someone made one time it’s a fan made video of the Mighty Morphin Rangers turn into the Squadron Ranger suits if saw that before there are things that you said that made sense though a second suit formation could be out of the question for Mighty Morphin into Squadron suits but as for the third season which is adapted from the movie using that footage of the movie using Ivan Ooze’s henchmen which were the Tenga Warriors who eventually became Rita and Zedd’s masters instead of Ooze and the ninja quest of the movie and they became the first ninja rangers using ninja gi’s for season 3 including the ninja Zords such as the Ape Frog Wolf Bear and Crane Zords and the movie itself saved the series actually but Japan didn’t since they did for two seasons which were Zyuranger and Dairanger footage third being the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers movie makes sense right
heres my question when they ran out of stock footage, why couldn't saban just shoot BRAND new footage of the power rangers with villians he made up and actually have them acting and fightign in their suits? This way the green ranger could've been around longer and they would've had a lot of original footage.
Because they probably didn't have the staff or tech to do that stuff yet to pull it off. Season 2 was already pretty wonky and it was obvious that the crew wasn't as experienced.
What I want to know. When they switched to the Zyu2 footage. Obviously there was noticeable changes to props and costumes and. Some props and costumes wernts used again. Was this down to contracts and rights or what
The zu2 footage story isn’t a new discovery of information cause it’s been talked about over the years in the ranger circles zu1.5 footage I hadn’t heard about but there are still scenes where the audio of the women who did Rita’s English speaking didn’t match up with the lip movements and it made it obvious it was a dubbed over
My friend actually met Barbara Goodson at Morphicon last year and he asked her how hard it was for her to provide Rita's voice. She admitted it was difficult because she had to scream at the top of her lungs. Often times, Goodson lost her voice from all that screaming. She had to drink plenty of water and chamomile tea to soothe her throat.
I'd loved to see MMPR season 2 been made of Zyu3 footage instead of Dairanger, with Zyu suits, Zyu3 zords as Thunderzords, and Zyu-styled original White Ranger. After all, that would've made more sense than Zyu-suited Rangers and KibaRanger with Dairanger mechs.
thesuperjag here is an interesting fact about walter emanuel jones he only has 9 fingers cause he doesn’t have a middle finger on one hand but it’s not that noticeable on power rangers but u can see it in certain scenes
Give Beast Ranger a chance. I know it's subtitled but the story works much better. I kinda wish they just dubbed it for English audiences rather than film original footage. Perhaps Power Rangers wouldn't as much of a joke here or considered for little kids.
