Because slash’s phrasing was off, went out of key at one point, went for a big bend for a note that was definitely not a target note. If he was in the studio he would want another take on it and so would everyone else

That's because Slash is not the best when it comes to blues, Its his weak point, But when it comes to Rock or Metal he is the best in the room.. For sure...While on the other hand John is a good and his only strength a Blues guitarist and the rhythm section in this video was playing 2/4 timed blues rock and about the "Eric Clapton" comment He is also basically a blues guitarist.....

John Mayer is just a fucking virtuoso. Slash plays the best in his style and nobody else plays that slithery, greasy, blues. But you're right, that's not what this song is.

Slash has done this kind of blues-rock plenty of times before... look at Slash's Snakepit and Slash's Blues Ball. This is hardly out of Slash's wheel-house. The truth is that Slash just became a sloppy live guitarist from around the late 90s up until pretty recently. He's improved since putting out his latest album though.

+Jacob Anfinnsen Thon True, he had some really great stuff back in the day, however, I strongly encourage you to check out the things that John Mayer has done. I highly recommend listening to the Where the Light Is concert (or the track Out of My Mind from said concert) or even check out what he has done in the John Mayer Trio. I think that he is getting better and better with each passing day with the things he's doing with The Greatful Dead and his more recent performances. These are true tellings of a guitar virtuoso. The soul that he brings out in that guitar is breathtaking and is rare among guitarists even as great as Slash. I can't force you to appreciate his music, but I really, really hope that you can see why Mayer really is a guitar Great.

John Mayer has many more accolades in his career than does Slash. I thoroughly enjoy Slash's music, but John Mayer is a grammy award winning artist. Slash talented sure, but it is very easy to rate John Mayer as a better guitarist than Slash.

Totally agree, I think Slash is really really good when he has time to create his own solos and melodies, but when he has to improvise (especially on someone else's song) he kinda falls in the same licks
