I'm not up to date on whats going on with ZZ Top, but this "17-string bass" is ridicuolus and I guess everyone noticed that he is only playing top and bottom strings. If this is a joke - then ZZ Top is a parody of themselves. If not - even worse...
As it turns out, the behemoth bass was actually the result of some late-night web browsing. Yes, ZZ Top discovered their newest instrument in the same way that average people end up buying weird gadgets and gizmos on Amazon. "I was doing night internet searching [and] turned up a picture of this crazy 17-string bass,” Francis explained in response to an inquiry from UCR. “I sent a picture to Billy and we laughed about it and made some jokes about actually trying to use it.” The story could have ended there… but where’s the fun in that? “A few weeks later, after I had forgotten about it, Billy shows up with [the 17-string bass],” Francis explained, describing the situation as “one of those ‘hold my beer’ moments." Francis joined the ZZ Top last following the death of bassist Dusty Hill. Since then, the musician, who had served as the group’s longtime guitar tech, has been a natural fit in the trio. "He's adding a great bit of enthusiasm,” Hill remarked in July. “When I see [drummer] Frank Beard smiling for the first time in 30 years, I know something good's happening." ZZ Top is in the final days of their Raw Whiskey tour, ending Dec. 2 in Scottsdale, Ariz. From there, the group heads to Las Vegas for a residency at The Venetian Resort and Casino! Might be time to take a flight to Vegas!!
@@peterjanjanin9883How many three piece bands that started in the sixties and have been as successful as ZZ top and still doing shows today do you know?...That the masses have heard of.
Dusty is irreplaceable. Many of my favorite ZZTop songs feature his lead vocals. His groove with Frank was great. He is legendary as are Frank and Billy.
That was actually the first time he played it. He hates it now. Even more so because it went viral and now he's got no choice but to whip it out on stage
This is the ultimate barritone combination, axe. It will growl like a grizzly bear on steroids. Sounds beyond great, the new man has the flare required to compliment the band. And done really well.
Pat and his wife are awesome people. Used to hang out with them in Lexington Ky in the mid nineties before they moved to Houston. Visited them one time there after they moved. Always generous, inviting and humble. Crazy remembering how Billy would call him up to come tune his guitars. Seemed just normal as that was Pats job, even though it was Billy Gibbons. So exciting to see the faith both Billy and Dusty had in him lead to where he is now. Obviously due to the unfortunate passing of Dusty, but yes, he fits.
Билли непотопляем. ZZ Top форева! Моя любовь к ним длится с первого прослушанного альбома. Им стал "Afterburner" в далёком 1985 году. Сногсшибательная музыка!
ZZ Top are still amazing, and while I'm still feeling bad about what happened to Dusty, I must admit that Elwood definitely has his $#1+ wired tight! Then again, he really ought to, what with being their guitar tech for so damned long. He knows all the songs, all the stage and lighting cues and group dynamics like the back of his hand! I'm just glad they found a way to "soldier on" in spite of Dusty's sad demise. Proof positive that ZZ Top's music is absolutely timeless, and can and does reach all generations; one gloriously hot Summer evening while my neighbours and I were sitting and drinking out front of the house, "Tush" started playing on the radio. At that point, my young, hip-hop-loving millennial neighbour turned to me and said, straight out, "ZZ Top is the champagne of beer drinkin' music!" At that point, I abso-freakin'-lutely *had* to tip my hat to him!🤣
That’s a mighty big guitar! These fellas never disappoint or fail to surprise us and Elwoods doing a great job! The show,as the late great Dusty Hill said, must go on! ZZ
@@bobcaygeon4533 I love Bobcaygeon and spent many a summers at Catchacoma/Gold lake, the rest of em too,but I’ll never define ZZTop,Bill,”Dust,Frank or Elwood a joke. You are entitled to your opinion of course, but it certainly isn’t mine. Sorry you feel the way you do,I suppose. Willy still has the chops. Make no mistake about it. Wish they’d do more of their first few,ZZ’s first and Rio Grande but most know em for what came later. ZZ Top has never disappointed or left me dissatisfied, but that’s just me.
@@bobcaygeon4533 they kind of went commercial with the inception of MTV for sure. Those first two records, even the first four were pretty stellar though.
I was just reading how Elwood feels like he isnt really good enough to take Dusty's place and be in the band. Poor guy, imposter syndrome is real ya'll. Elwood, you are badass, you played that beast of a bass flawlessly. We love you and you absolutely deserve this honor.
Talk about a drummer not getting enough recognition!! I've seen them live 5 times, and he sounds sp incredible in person....so strong, so tight, and more creative than people realize.
1983 Eliminator tour, Seattle Center Arena. Night Ranger opened. Both groups performed with electric energy (and a little bit of gas-guzzling hot rod energy too!)
@@richardadams1337 Sammy Hagar opened for them in Pittsburgh on his 3 Lock Box tour, he was on top of his game in that era to, before that Van Hagar pop rock nonsense. He was right, there's only one way to rock and Van Hagar wasn't it.
How can people pay to hear pre-recorded vocals and really bad lip sync? This shit's gotta stop. I'd rather hear a musician fight his way through a song but be real...
I kinda get it. Dusty was a laid back cat that brought the bottom why replace him with similar guy? Ya can’t replace dusty so Elwood brings something different to the table. Boys sound good.
Я так и не понял нахер он с ним вышел? Ничо путнего не сыграл! Я то думал что сейчас будет какое-то невзъебенное сложное мелодичное соло! А в итоге обычная простецкая бас партия.
@@kennyplay5982 great concert! The Hydra was only brought out for one song and it was on a custom stand, not worn, but the sound for the whole show was loud and clear, and the band is tight! The bass player is off the charts!
That Bass Ax can chop an entire Petrified Forest 🌳 Um guessing, Three Five String Bass Guitars in Three piano Octaves with an Octave higher on the First String & an Octave Lower on the 17th String. @ this point I sound like Terrance Howard 😮 Rock On 🤘🏿
Dude I said the same thing I was like wtf!! I just saw them live last December in miami and Karl Hyde was still going crazy dancing all over stage and the new dark train lyrics and gtown Euphoria song debut was amazing. Underworld is the best techno band ever to exist imo. I saw another video of zz top opening this song with cowgirl lmao
