I woke Billy up in Mrs Dordey Spanish class in 1967 when he made one of the most powerful statements a high school kid could make, Billy said he was going to be one of the best rock and roll guitar players in America. Still one of my best friends
Someone on here stated that Jimmy Hendrix said B.G. was better than him I couldn't give 1 damn what Hendrix said about anything especially his opion on guitar players who all these people even guitar players that are better than he ever was ever could've been give him so much credit for being the best guitar player ever makes me sick you people want to kiss the black races behind so bad it's disgusting he not in the top 100 of greatest guitar players session guitar players back in the 50s 60s most of the 70s were not just better than him but most other players as well then you get into the country music guitar players most were session players a some point they played on 100s of songs he was no where near the player Les Paul was or Chet Atkins Jerry Reed
Can't see that? First time I saw Top they were at Arrowhead Stadium, KC, MO with no opening act in something called the Worldwide Texas Tour. 7 semi's of snakes, buzzards, longhorns, cattle sheep... all in pens down on the field in front of the stage. It was so big, they set up longwise on the field. Not at one end like Pink Floyd and all the others.. "They couldn't transport the snakes in the cattle trailer because it upset the Longhorn and the buffalo": How ZZ Top took Texas on the road in the most sanity-defying tour ever staged..."
In the 70's I I discovered them in a concert as the first band next day I found this album the pictures of the Tequila and food ,, it is the best. Smoke and stare at the Photos ,, a very long time gone the album got warped in the storage ... This is a classic
When Billy Gibbons and his band Moving Sidewalks opened for Jimi Hendrix in Houston, they didn't have enough original music to fill up the 45 minute slot. So they played Purple Haze....while Jimi watched and laughed from the side stage. That takes some real balls....
I do believe that Mr. Hendrix had a huge amount of respect for Billy and once mentioned him when asked who he thought was the best guitarist on the scene
@@williamgregg8062 absolutely. Amen! Not just a great ZZ Top tune! Throw your cares upon Me, and I will take care of them. The path to become PeaceFULL and CareFREE. Cares and Peace are opposite forces in your life. He is the God of Peace! ✝️
I was 4 when I remember my Pops playing this on his turntable in the living room. This was in '79. Only kid I knew who listened to Black Sabbath, Zz Top, Floyd, Beatles etc before kindergarten each day. RIP Pop. Love you man.
every time time somebody picks up a guitar a bass and drums and starts jamming this stuff it comes again, don't you worry son this stuff will be well back some day. Ya can't keep this stuff down
I saw ZZ right after this album came out. No beards, just 3 men in checkered shirts. I fell in love with their sound. South Bend, IN, Morris Civic Theatre, front row, center, balcony, June 24, 1974.
Back in the day Tempe az. Tempe deoblo stadium All day concert They walked out on stage Hung their hats on set of long horns. Just said We're a little old band from Texas Full title bogie from thier on
I got out in '69......still remember my car at that time and where I was drivin' that morning...when I first heard this on my Vietnam PX car stereo... rock on...
@@TheVatonaught I am glad you made it back to the World. $ of my uncles were in country, 2 Army, 1 Marine and 1 Air Force. Danny, A.F. saw the worst believe it or not. Sappers coming in the wire to fuck up the airstrips and anything else caused hand to hand weekly. He punched his own ticket in 1991. Odd, cuz he always seemed the least affected of the 4. Thank you sir, All of you are always in my thoughts.
Ha Ha... surprise, we all burn in hell! me first, right after you. wait, there is no heaven/hell.. but keep on believing if that is your Jam, but not sure what it has to do with ZZ.
"Took a jog through Mississippi... Well muddy water turned to wine". Just love this passage how it's sung, what it evokes, the vibe and just how FUCKING cool these cats were. Unique, and never to be seen again. Man I miss when the USA was cool.
The people of the Unites States are still cool - it's our gubbermint that ain't so cool, and that's been goin' on for decades now. You know what it will take to turn things around, folks. Get involved. If you do, maybe the US of A will be cool again someday.
@@horusfalcon for some involvement leads to harassment which turns into persecution. The US is no longer "home of the free". Freedom is an illusion. Organized rebellion is the answer. Revolution begins with a whisper...
I was so happy to have gone to ZZ Top concert in 1974 in Bakersfield, Ca. There were about 5 or 6 of us teenagers, thanks to my friends, the Chavez's. They were the best friends anyone could ever ask for. I mean these guys would lay down their lives for you. That is why I will never forget them as my second family...
I'm laughing my a*s off cause that's me as well!!! Bought my first and only receiver for $169.00 back in '75 or '76, lasted for at least 15 years, maybe even more, I cannot remember!!! And I was off to the races BLASTING ZZ Top, Skynyrd, Springsteen, and later on The Ramones and The Clash. Drove my parents to drink from the "incessant racket" as my Mom called it. Good times says it all!!!
We draw a line in the sand at 1980. Most of our heroes either hung it up or sold out to become hilarious puppets for EMPTYV. ZZ Top. Looking at you and you..
This is zzs best album. Totally packed with one great tune after another. Many cover bands have covered every single track on this album because they just kick ass
I HAD THEIR FIRST ALBUM AND LEFT IT LAYING IN THE BACKSEAT OF MY CAR WHERE IT WARPED TO BADLY TO PLAY : SACRILEGE . I STILL HAVE AFTER 45 YEARS I JUST COULD NOT THROUGH IT AWAY THE COVER IS PROBABLY WORTH SOME $$$$
@@CesarSandoval024 ZZ Top the best of the best!! Especially back in the day, this song, blue jean blues, beer drinkers hell raisers! They were there for me when I first starting to go out with my friends 15 16 years old. Lots of fun memories!
I had my first lap dance from a beauty with long black hair I took her home to finish the album and I'm headed home right now I'll put the album on again and she will come right out of the kitchen and grind my heart into dust like she did over 40 years ago thank you zztop she's the love of my life❤❤❤
I love how Billy layed down 2 guitar tracks with 2 different guitars, and in "Waitin' For The Bus" he does the first half of the solo with one guitar and the second half of the solo with the other guitar. 2 distinctly different tones. It's awesome.
Yeah, he was real creative in the studio. He and Dusty would structure the songs so that when they played live they would be able to pull it off. When it's only a trio the goal is to sound as full as possible (Hendrix, Nirvana, etc.).
@@jakeg.7562Bill Ham made sure they didn’t get too wild in the studio, so they would be able to recreate it live. They got around him a few times with a lil trickery when they found something they liked, so the stories go.
@@mikebaker9574 Ya gotta rock till ya drop!! Keeps us young, right? I am sorry that I never cought ZZ live. In fact, I don`t remember seeing any tour promotions back in the 80`s. I am 56. I have a bootleg recording of them on the Deguello tour and it is wild. They open with "I Wanna Thank You" (or is it just -thank you) and Billy`s rig sounds like it is gonna explode, SO LOUD!! Take it easy, or take it Nation wide!
Well, in '73 I saw ZZ Top in Eunice, LA at the LSU-E auditorium. I was 16. It rained cats and dogs all the way there and the other 3 in the car smoked a bag...I didn't smoke. But, windows up and all for an hour and a half, you can imagine. Best concert I've ever been to.
Sweet sweet blues , dirty guitar that soothes my soul. Today's music uses computer generation and has no guitar....,.wtf no guitar, that's criminal! LONG LIVE ROCK!!!!
What a timeless piece of music, so blessed to have caught them in Dallas back in the day, just 3 men who raised the roof and took no prisoners. The best thing to ever come out of Texas for sure.
One of the great rock and roll accidents in the studio was the mix down crashing the first song into the second. It made both songs end up on the radio and like a double song. Wouldn't work if they weren't two great songs. I wonder if they got paid for both song's royalties or if it was treated as one song? They're two songs on the album. Who knows?
As somebody who had to take the bus to get to high school and wasted countless hours of my youth waitin' for the godam thing, I need somebody to make a short film / music video out of this.
Let us all give thanks and love to RU-vid for making happiness not just a possibility, but a reality. Love this music. The original music from this band is essential Rock & Roll. God certainly has a beautiful place for RU-vid, - remember who makes these memories and joy possible.
I left Chicagoland in 95' to take a break from a workman's comp case that was dragging on. I came to San Antonio. Well, one day I took the bus around town. I was at the edge of town waiting for the bus with this song in my head and a tumbleweed blew by. EEE-HA.
DAMN straight. I had 5 older brothers. Born in the 1950's and my brothers made sure I was a rocker. I saw ZZ TOP on June 24, 1974, Morris Civic, South Bend, IN. Saw over 50 concerts plus 3 day Sedalia Music fest.
My brother took me to see these guys. Cheap trick was on first. Glad I got to see billy live. He’s always been one of my big influences. If you decide to play guitar check out early zz top. Such awesome stuff. Smoke a joint and enjoy the journey
I am Michael Matthias Frohn Mühlstroh und Jesus Christus!!! Overwehlming und Wunderschön und Wunderbar!!! 😂❤❤❤!!! Buy me , ZZ Top!!! Make my day!!! Do something good!!! Thank you for this Song!!!
I can remember the first time I heard this on the radio just before I went into the Marines. I was blown away... I prefer the original over the "remastered" as the original is nasty, muddy real while the remastered is all clean and bright and nice...and that ain't what I remember...
