I agree with Matthias Villwock, not one of his best rendition, however still interesting and "wellcome" for every fan and profound admirer of this extraordinary artista ....who, sadly, seems to be forgotten by - la sua proprio casa - LA SCALA - cui nome avevo portato in alto in tutto il mondo. He sounds very tired. Maybe he was ill and this is certainly one of the most demanding Verdi Arias. He is quite out of tune as well. Anyway, Bastianini’s “impostazione” should always be taken into consideration by today’s baritones.
1959, yes that tumor at throat... he got boos later years, no one knows he was suffering here and there, I guess he cannot always control his voice anymore... very sad.
