Taylor and Kendrick are just examples of artists who prioritize story telling through their lyrics. Being able to follow the nuance and Easter eggs in literature, does take an advanced level of reading comprehension. How does it feel knowing you missed the point of the entire video, and then had to have a Taylor swift fan explain it to you?

idk if anyone has answered this, but the first time she mentions herself in a song is a little ad-lib in 22 when she sings "Too many cool kids" and then in the background she goes "Who's Taylor Swift anyway, ew." Also, this was such a great breakdown and reaction of the album!

I will agree that Swifties can take things too far, but calling people unintelligent because they are a fan of Taylor Swift is rude and uncalled for. I have a degree in geophysics, a minor in astrophysics, and a masters in teaching, AND I've been a fan of Taylor Swift since I was 11. You can't seriously think someone is unintelligent because of the music they like. Taylor Swift and Kendrick Lamar respect each other, so why can't their fans do the same?

Every time I see a video like this it humbles me. I caught on to some themes missed a lot. For example, I thought when Kendrick said he was going back home, I thought he was talking about going back to Compton, not Africa. Thanks for the help, some of us are reading challenged.
Justice for The Albatross! It seems really overlooked. The contrast between her soft voice with her dark statements ("she is here to destroy you") is so captivating. I absolutely love how she weaved in mythology too. Looking up the symbolism of an albatross took me down a fascinating rabbit hole.
It just goes to show how bad Drake’s media literacy is. It’s so funny how he tried to get everyone to go against Kendrick but doesn’t even know that Kendrick rarely burns bridges and has never done anything controversial in his career.

Another good example I think is hozier. Not necessarily with Easter eggs, but just the way he crafts his lyrics, all the references to mythology, history, art, music, all the themes that he explores. And most importantly, something I think is true for Kendrick and Taylor as well is that they are all telling stories. They treat music as a medium for storytelling, and that's what makes their albums have so much replay value. Because people never get tired of a well told, interesting story

Eminem - talk about encouraging fans to play, replay, read the lyrics, figure out double and triple entendres, recognize the rhyme schemes, and then pan out for a wider view to see the big picture. I was thinking the same thing. He's next level clever as a lyricist. He can speak to someone through one line in a song that might take a couple of listens to recognize, but others might never notice b/c it wasn't aimed at them.
If Drake would just go back to the Take Care era his music would be so much better for it. He’s too obsessed with chasing and using any new artist he can just for some album sales instead of making something great. He’s never going to be on the same level as Kendrick and it’s sad.
