Yay!! Very excited for both of these vids!! Also, just want to say, I know how difficult it can be to be open minded about something that is very near and dear to you, so I am impressed that you have relistened to 1989 in your own time and have been able to appreciate it, despite your history with it at the time. 💜 As always, really appreciate the thoughtfulness and dedication in your content 😄
I think its so sad that people always try and label her as fake for showing genuine love to artists or other celebrities but anytime you put her to the test she passed it.
I think a lot of people project their own feelings onto that thinking there is no way she is that genuine, when she really is. They may not ever know someone like that or imagine they could ever unabashedly feel that way about something.
i used to hate Taylor when i was younger as well. but my reason was because the media painted her as a bad person. when i was 16 i realized that she wasn’t actually a bad person and that her music is great. some years later and now she’s my favorite artist :) people grow and change
For real. The way the media and social made her out to be some mean fake girl or a serial dater, and treat her like she committed some unforgivable crimes, is insane how affective that was. I started becoming a huge fan after 1989. I never looked back. I still love her music. Now Reputation and folklore are my top favorite TS albums.
my #1 artist is taylor swift and my #2 artist is kendrick. its been like this for almost 10 years. finding your channel was like finding my best friend fr
Interesting insight on the Kendrick Lamar album and how it made you feel seen. I think Taylor, in her own way, does that for teenage girls and young women. Teenage girls, of any background, are some of the most devalued humans in our culture and now you have someone come along and say that their feelings have merit. It is a pretty powerful thing. Also, you have a great editing style on your videos!
I never hated taylor swift but back in like 2016 during the kanye and taylor fued i got so much hate for defending taylor swift that i privated my twitter account and lost all my followers i also unfollowed everyone and decided to log out of my account and make a new one
I got hacked (then impersonated- it was a big account) for defending her being on Time magazine...maybe that's why. Never thought about it. Wasn't even a fan, the hate was just ridiculous.
You and Taylor have the same opinion on the awards show atmosphere. :) She's talked before about how weird it is that everyone just sits there while the biggest artists in the world are performing. Early on she decided that wasn't going to be her so she makes a point of showing some enthusiasm, even if she's the only one in the room.
This youtube channel receives so much love and support! This guy talks from the place of honesty, has shown growth as a creator and also, his concert videos are always amazing with cut aways to him talking or providing more detail into the event, his fan interactions always ❤❤
One of my favorite things about you, Anthony, is that you really interrogate your reactions to all kinds of music, and that you recognize that some things are just not for you at a certain point of your life and you're so open about that on your channel. I feel like I lot of people would benefit from that attitude instead of just blanket, "I don't listen to X." We can all get something from different music even if it isn't something that really speaks to us--and sometimes we find gems that become part of our personal soundtrack. I've been a fan of Taylor since right around when Fearless very first dropped (a little before, because I lived in a place where you listened to country whether you wanted to or not), but I spent an years keeping my fandom on the DL because I didn't want to deal with the hate and mockery of the people around me who were super critical of her. I was a new kid in this place anyway and I didn't need one more thing to be harassed about. It got to be such a habit that it's only been since Rep that I felt like I could be more open about loving her music. Just wasn't mature enough to own it, I guess. Anyway, great video as always. Looking forward to watching your takes on 1989, SNTV, and To Pimp a Butterfly.
As usual, the editing in this video was perfection! Thanks so much for uploading this Anthony, it’s been incredible (and so fun) to see you on this journey with Taylor and her music. I feel a new wave of emotion with each re-recording so can completely understand you waking up in the middle of the night just to reflect on what she’s come to mean to you/us. I’m so grateful that I was also able to find your channel thanks to her - I look so forward to your uploads now! Take care! 🥰
I’m catching up on your channel and reaction vids. So much of online discussion between different genres has become a victim of stan culture. Hearing someone take the time to articulate it like this, someone who can see the value in both sides, is really refreshing. Kudos.
Im really excited to see your Kendrick Lamar video. I like all music but I feel like Ive missed out on this incredible artist! Cant wait for you to introduce me 😊
As a Taylor Swift fan because of folklore and evermore (it's more my lane of music, than pop or hip hop ~millenial that loved Fiona Apple and Alanis Morissette here~, so just like you I went back after listening to these two albuns and fell in love with TS and I'm excited to attend the show in my country *Brazil*), you totally convince me to listen to KL. Great video.
the whole time i was watching this i kept thinking about how cool it was that you had been open to exploring and embracing the taylor world, that we should reciprocate and learn about the music you love too. and then by the end of the video it seems like that’s what you’re gonna share with us next!.. so i’m looking forward to some learning! 🙃
I knew Kendrick before I got to your Taylor reactions, but with your channel I got to know his lyricism deeply and now he is one of my favorite artists. So yeah, I love how this space became a safe place for convergence and love for music
I appreciate this and many of your videos so much because I also didn’t want to like Taylor for a time. Someone who could be arguably tied as the love of my life back during the debut and fearless left me with memories I didn’t want to relive. Her music was like a storm that would never stop. I wouldn’t buy the album but I secretly always loved the songs. 1989 comes out and my best friend at the time made me admit how awesome Shake it Off was for people who deal with anxiety and other issues. I gave her another chance then. It was short lived though, because my best friend died in a car accident a year later. I could not allow myself to be a Taylor fan anymore. Too much of the heartaches of my life could relate to her. Years later I realize I have missed out. Folklore and Evermore are incredible albums I wish more than anything I experienced when they were released. Midnights drew me back, and I am proud to say I will be a Swiftie forevermore.
Hi! Have you watched her BBC Radio live performances (on RU-vid)? Specifically, "Holy Ground" is AMAZING! It's a slowed down version with her on the piano. Highly recommend.
I am really enjoying your videos. Thank you for your open-mindedness and appreciating the differences in artists. Like they can all be great, but in different ways.
In 2019 I Had Started Discovering Taylor & Only Had Heard Some Bad Media Portation In 2016 & I Had Only Listened To LWYMMD So She Seemed Evil To Me Fuck.Skip Forward 4 Years Later:She's My Fav Singer & My Fav Celebrity Persona
incredible that you posted this 10 years almost to the day of when Trayvon Martin’s murderer G*orge Z*mmerman was acquitted. i think your experience during that time, the seeds of the black lives matter movement growing in the wake of these tragedies, and how you felt that was reflected in Kendrick’s music - it makes sense you wanted to see him recognized and celebrated. don’t be so hard on your past self, and at the same time your openness to Taylor over the years has been such a beautiful journey to watch. keep going!! ✊🏼
I've been a fan of Taylor's since she was doing publicity for Fearless ("Love Story" in particular). However, I don't usually love all her albums right off the start. It takes me a few listens to enjoy them and really get into them. It also helps to know the back story for me to really appreciate the lyrics. That happened with Red and I was scared to listen to Reputation. Now those are two of my faves. Reputation is the one that I put on when I can't think of anything else to listen to, kinda like that restaurant you go to when you can't think of anywhere else to go. You know that it's gonna be great every time.
Talking about Shake It Off.. When Anthony says: "lyrically, is it as brilliant as.. what's that one song from folklore?" Me: "uh anything?" 😉 btw we love Shake It Off in this house, too 😍
I never cared for country which is why I never listened to her until 1989. It was also my first concert of her’s that I was gifted a ticket to and that cemented me as a “low-key swifty” I get it!
I'm french and Taylor Swift is not popular in France, like, she's not on the radio except for Shaking off once in a while. Personally, I was not and I still am not a fan of her albums before 1989 and this album was the reason I became a fan. I like song with stories, I love Springsteen, Dylan, Alanis Morissette , Lamar and others. I still don't like anything Country but I am in awe at her evolution as a writer, poet, musician and visual artist. She's complex, not perfect, and a mystery. I can't wait for her autobiography at 80 when she will give all of her secrets and she's the only person I can think would make me think that. I was like you many years ago, so I love your videos because we also evolve in our tastes if we stay open to curiosity and abolish cultural frontiers of what society wants to put us in. I don't know, what I mean to say is you get me man.🙃
I do think SZA’s S.O.S. should’ve won over Midnights. 1989 and To Pimp a Butterfly were gifts to the people and I wish they didn’t have to be on the same ticket that year as best album oty
I understand the animosity toward taylor, and as much as i love taylor 1989 is actually my least favorite album and i hope Kendrick wins a gramy. By the way thank you for showing me how endearing Kendrick is and how personable he is. AND now WE BOTH love Keylor Siftmar
I remember that first video--- you got a lot less hostile toward Taylor by the time you finished it. I didn't mind it at all. Now, cramming all her country into one session? That video left you a zombie!
You're my favorite music RU-vidr. I even got my boyfriend into you, who is a music snob. Btw, get into BTS. Trust me when I say you will love them. They have a whole album written about Jungian philosophy. You won't regret it.
