David! Your video title says "Scrabble Expert Takes On All Challengers!" However, it is my understanding that your account is set to accept challenges from those with a rating of 1400 or higher. Is that correct? If so, the title needs changing... (May I suggest "Scrabble Expert Takes On Any Challengers That Meet His Exacting Demands!" or something along those lines, but punchier.)
_several_ clear inaccuracies on both ends (was keen on seeing a row M bonus come down - i spotted TRiADiC/DRAsTiC etc.) ultimately decided on a critical endgame - this just feels as tho opp has sold this 1 😅
I feel like HORN would be the play keep two vowels instead of one would be more comfortable playing along with the Z. You may do PEIZE and win the game
interestingly if you kept the r instead on the n you would have had two places to play PRIZE for an out in one, though possible opponent blocks both spots.
Skara Brae and old ancient settlement in Scotland. The first time I got a clue before you!! Its also one of the towns in the old video game Ultima Online! I'm terrible at crosswords, but I love watching your channel.
I'm learning the art of the cryptic and these videos are a huge help. I must admit I feel intensely proud on the rare occasions that I manage to figure out a clue before you!
Isomorph means corresponding (in mathematics) and is formed from material (letters) in that phrase reversed. I enjoy how concise you are with your solces.
So so happy you managed to get SKARA BRAE at the end there. Thank you for another fantastic solve. I am just starting out learning myself and the ease with which you appear to solve most of these puzzles is an inspiration. Dave
The Leith Police dismisseth us - without this little bit of knowledge, I couldn't have finished! I think one person says hip, hip, and then everyone says horray, at least some of the time. By mentioning cinema, the impressionistic clue is trying to make you think of Jean Renoir, and not his father. I only knew of Skara Brae because of the Irish folk group.
Don't forget they're playing "void challenge", so players can try out different possibilities without penalty. David doesn't take advantage of this very often, but some of his opponents do, and it's not counted as cheating.
I have to say I can't help but think that your opponent was using a word generator. he very rarely used parallel words. he had a few head scratching 6 letter plays that strategically made little sense. that can be a sign of using a general word generator that gives you the best or longest word in an bay of letters. come very interesting bingo spots too. I'm sure I'm wrong. I just feel of all the games I've watched this opponent was the most suspect
I didn't get that sense. I felt they were playing longer words to increase turnover and draw the blanks, which David pointed out as a key strategic consideration.
a minute and 50 seconds between FISTULA and WINGEDLY (an ultra-low-probability 8 that's obscure enough for my browser to highlight it as a misspelling); presumably he'd have to reject (at least) the R and A floaters before considering the W, implying he found that in under a minute. "Impressive" is an understatement.
not just the 6 letter plays - their non-bonus choices in general. look at how YA feels so out of place - holding back those awkward consonants & taking out potential on column 15. cant afford 2 cut out ur own options when trailing effectively by a bonus type score 😬
I have no clue how I ended up here on a rainy Thursday at midnight, I don't even play the game... But thanks for it. For some reason it's what I wanted to watch.
Few years back i had a Will Anderson video just pop up in my feed. Best video I've ever clicked! Was super interesting and led me down a rabbit hole, where i just want to go deeper and deeper 😅! Anyway. He's a fellow Scrabble player and RU-vid creator. I highly recommend checking him out 👍 👌
great restraint on the endgame - _so_ tempting 2 block FRIGS when scoring w/ tile dumps on the top left makes more sense here. losing was certain anyways
It’s a testament to David’s complete mastery that when I see YOGA and it is not played, my first thought was that I had somehow missed its removal from the list
That 54 point play from opponent down through the C was pretty funny! Possibly described your inner monologue at that moment 😅 good game as always, btw
