@canadianhuntnfish absolutely!! We get our coffee from cabinfevercoffeeco.com/ our favorite local coffee! Gone fishin carries it too, they're going through a relaunch right now but should still have some coffee left on the site! Thanks for watching!
@wolf-ic8uh thank you! Some of our newer videos we go a bit more into the tackle we use, but will be doing a video shortly showing all of our tips and tricks for Salmon fishing on Vancouver Island! Thanks for watching!
Great video and very helpful for me to watch as I plan to tackle the install! Q on the V-lock parts for you : what size bolts did you order and did you need to get the XL insert or is that standard size w a 6” plate? TIA!
@leec4656 thank you! We used the 6"x6" insert standard length not the xl longer insert. We used the 3" bolts to be able to go through the Vlock mount, wedge, and backing plate, you may be able to get away with 2 1/2" if not using the vlock wedge to level out the mount. One of the hardest parts about the install was notching out the backing plate, since we had it under the gear track, the screws and plastic inside the hull get in the way, so had to cut out a bit of the backing plate so it would line up with the bolt holes for the mount drilled in the hull. Crystal has since decided that I was right all along and we have moved her downrigger and VLock system behind her seat in the tankwell area. She thought she would hate it but now says she likes it there more than in front of the seat. Easier to reach with the reclined position of the old town seats vs leaning forward. Hope that helps, and thanks for watching!
@@kckayakfishing That is super helpful! Crystal said in the video that the install was a pain and so I already had the dreads about it because I thought I wanted to put mine in the same exact spot. Now I’ve got real doubts after reading your comment that she ended up behind the seat in the end. I have a OT 120PDL and do tend to keep the seat more upright for better back comfort. It just doesn’t seem like it would be very convenient to crank the arm and read the counter behind me but this will be my first downrigger and I got the 1050. Will continue to mull it over while I wait for mounting parts to arrive in the mail…Thanks again!
@leec4656 she has her seat pretty much as far forward as it will go and still doesn't have an issue reading the depth or cranking it up, we're planning on doing a scotty vs cannon downrigger video soon so we'll be able to show the new position of her downrigger, and her using it
Hi love the videos, I have a oldtown 120 ap and have had to change up fishing tactics and gear since salmon season has been closed for the 2nd year .. im interested in all the parts you have used for a scottys 1050 downrigger. Also do you have a recommended location to install on 120 ap..
Thank you! So obviously Crystal uses the Scotty 1050, we cut the boom down 8 inches to make it easier for her to reach, we also added the scotty 1" cannonball hook, makes storing the cannonballs so much easier. We have it on the scotty swivel base, and the whole thing is attached to a V Lock mounting system, with vlock backing plate, 3" bolts and vlock wedge to get the downrigger sitting as close to level as possible. All thr parts were purchased from Vlocks website. At the time this video was filmed Crystal forced me to put the downrigger in front of the seat, and it's now behind the seat in the tank well area! 😂😂 You would think having it in front would be easier to operate, but for us it's the opposite, since the old town seats are already in a reclined position reaching behind is so much easier than trying to sit forward and reach the downrigger. We'd highly recommend behind the seat on any kayak, it's nice and out of the way when not in use, easy to reach, and also keeps thr gear track area clear on one side for re entry in case we go for a swim. We definitely wouldn't run it without a backing plate of some sort, we use 8lb cannonballs and the downrigger is fairly heavy especially with the swivel base. So wherever you decide to install it make sure there's access to the inside of the hull and can get your whole arm in there. It's a nightmare to try and do otherwise! Thanks for watching! Any other questions don't hesitate to ask, we'll be doing a video soon on her updated position as well as a Scotty vs Cannon downrigger video which should be lots of fun! 🙌
@Gallibanting-i7j thank you! For our Salmon trolling we use a Shimano Trevala 7' Medium Light, kayak fishing for Salmon it's an amazing rod. Thanks for watching! 🙌
@zackrepo97 we use the Gibbs GV series nets, rubber coated nets but pretty sure they have a full rubber option as well. Extremely heavy duty, the nets came with a 48" handle and we ended up cutting around 6 inches off which works perfect for us! Highly recommend them for kayak fishing! Thanks for watching! 🙌
Moved to port hardy about five months ago and couldn’t afford a boat so been out in my pontoon boat everywhere including out past port Alice and north north end of the island loving it so much. People always think I’m insane being so far out on it but I say it’s too much fun not too and the fishing has been amazing. Love your videos and if you guys are ever up this way let me know
@427max thank you! We were originally shopping for a boat a few years ago, then stumbled across kayak fishing on RU-vid. The rest is history! A lot of people can't wrap their heads around this being a choice for us to fish this way, if they could experience catching fish the way we do, they would know where the obsession for this sport comes from! We're definitely planning on fishing the north island in the future! Appreciate your support, and thanks for watching! 🙌🙌
@grantbrown5312 thank you! There's never a shortage of challenges when it comes to kayak fishing! Hahaha a.co/d/8TCOqz1 Here's a link to our net holder, it's made for paddles but fits our net handles and gaff handles perfectly, we angle them a bit so the bag of the net sits on the bow of our Kayaks, so far it's been a great place to store them. Thanks for watching!
@@BlueWilderness239 😂😂😂 she wasn't going anywhere! We think it was a Minke whale or possibly a young humpback, hard to say for sure as they like pretty similar! 🙌🙌
@BlueWilderness239 possibly, next time I'll put out the go pro and give it a shot, the visibility isn't the greatest in our waters but would be so cool to get it on film underwater!
@louiseschricker9963 we use a combination of Phat-E spoons, little phat E spoons, Fish-E spoons, and the new Sex-E spoons. The patterns we primarily use for our fishing are No Bananas, Herring Aid, Irish Cream, and Blue Silver, we're always trying to match the baitfish in the water so early season the smaller Sex-E and Little Phat-Es are our Go To. As the bait gets bigger and the Salmon start feeding more aggressively, we usually go with bigger spoons, always trying to match what they're feeding on.
Awesome video as usual! Really hope to try Vancouver arwa sometime (I'm in Northern Washington). Crystal, what phonecaee/attachment do you have? Thanks!
@FamilyNick a.co/d/fT3tZuG a.co/d/cDK3YeS We use this setup to keep our phones secured to us while out on the kayaks, over 2 years and never an issue! Thanks for watching!
Ya it takes a decent amount of effort to get the stock Pedals off, especially with the Salt build up, but now the new Pedals are no problem, especially after some grease! Thanks for watching!
I fish from a Hobie Outback and when I hook one I turn the bow into the fish so it is effectively pulling me along. Tires the fish out quicker. I just find that fighting a big salmon from the side is awkward. As the fish tires and comes to the surface I slide up beside it look to see if it's a keeper and can release easily.
@thegreatvantastic5689 whatever works for ya! We've tried both ways, not sure why, but we both prefer having the fish behind us as far away from the Kayaks as possible until they're worn out. Also too having the fish behind us makes for a better video, in our opinion of course! Thanks for watching! 🙌
Wow, great video you guys….love watching your trials and tribulations in your boats…..if ya don’t do it, ya won’t do it….keeping on keeping on….❤️👍👍🎣🎣🙏
Thank you for the great video! I'm new to kayak fishing - can I ask what rod/reels and what lures you are using? I've just been jigging bottom with an old mooching rod and reel and a 4oz lure but would love to try new techniques. Thanks!
Thank you! For our Lingcod rods, we use West Coast Fishing Tackles Medium Heavy Pacific Jigging Series rod, super light yet powerful enough to bring in some huge fish! Our reels are Piscifun Alijoz 400's, for lures we primarily use West Coast Fishing Tackles 10oz swimbaits, or drift herring on a bait rig and 10oz sinker. For Rockfish and Salmon Jigging, we use the West Coast Fishing Tackle Light Action spinning rod, with a Daiwa BG 4500 spinning reel, and an Okuma Azores 4000h spinning reel, with these rods we are primarily using 2.7-4oz flat fall jigs, but they'll handle a 10oz swimbait as well no problem! Last but not least, for Salmon trolling, we use Shimano Trevalas rods, 7' Medium Light, with Piscifun Alijoz 300's, we've tried lots of rods and reels and so far these are the winners! Thanks for watching! 🙌🙌
Ever have probs with seals or sea lions?.. I been looking at Kayaks and my brother has had sea lions follow the fish right up to the Kayak.. Also, do you think outriggers may help to stop a Kayak from ever tipping?..
@marcThespazz haven't had any issues yet, other than the sealions scaring all the fish away! 🤣🤣 normally if we see them around we try and fish away from them, nothing worse than reeling in a Salmon head with no body cause a sealion got it! Outriggers would definitely help with stability, not sure if they'd stop you from flipping though, we've never used them so can't say for sure. Thanks for watching! 🙌
For cooler temperatures, we wear drysuits with Carhartt baselayers. We use an NRS drysuit for Crystal and a Mustang Survival drysuit for myself, both we've been extremely happy with.
Grease the screws - corrosion x or some salt water type of grease - also very important to use that type of grease on your prop sheer pin - they have a lot of exposure, especially in salt and corrode very easily - if it goes while you are out, you are in trouble with no prop! Carry a few extra “sheer pins” - you can find some old drills in the right diameter and cut them for cheap replacements. Have fished my Predator PDL hard now for 7 plus years - salt and fresh. Grease the scupper hole fish finder mount hardware! All of it - it will corrode if not
@Charactermatters650 💯% all of our screws and parts get coated with corrosion inhibitor twice a year, we each carry 5 extra sheer pins in our drives as well as two extra props each because you never know! Paddling these beasts home would be a nightmare! Thanks for watching! 🙌🙌
That boat looks well outfitted and expensive. I like fishing and kayaking but combining the two seems challenging...but where I am there are no sharks or whales. Good😅
Kudos to those offering you advice/help! LOL. They don't know who you are. I just did not get the event cause. Was it a fish on? The pole dipped. Or was it the swell surprised you? 😅
@chuckwoodward7440 I was pushing myself forward off of the seat and ended up losing my grip on the at the same time a smaller swell hit which threw me back in the seat. I was trying to get myself un snagged from a nasty reef and didn't have my net strapped in. The line wrapped around the net handle and knocked it loose. One thing after another! 😂😂😂

Amazing!! Congratulations on this entire organization....
@@kckayakfishing thanks man. I’m 6’3, 315 and looking to get into kayak fishing. Losing some weight currently for it to be more comfortable but was definitely leaning towards the old town!
@AdamBettinelli the Sportsman pdl 120 would be a great option, I'm currently in the weight loss process as well, so I've been very picky about what gear I bring out with me, stopped carrying a crate and went with a horizontal rod storage from yak gadget. I find that the more storage I have, the more gear I end up bringing that I don't even use 😆 will be moving up to the autopilot 136 next season, but have been extremely happy with the 120. 🙌
