I know this isn't really related to the video, but I've been wondering if there's a specific technique to rigging dummy sails or do you just put them straight into wind.
Putting sails straight forward no longer makes the boat go faster. It used to, but not anymore. Turn the sails right if wind is right. Turn sails left if wind is left. And if wind is straight against you, then put sails either left or right, it doesn't matter.
I haven't played SoT for ages, so I can't really say much about it. Coming from a different time 😅 But I'm sure back then we would definitely have handled some situations very differently. But we can't really compare. Also everyone likes to play helm differently. Even tho I personally don't agree with a lot of points, i really like that u are getting people into helming and actually making people think of their decisions. Good job on those points, Im sure ur beeing an inspiration for a few out there.
I’m always interested to hear other people’s opinions! What points of mine have I said that too don’t really agree with or you think there might be a better way to go about it? I don’t really remember playing against you in 5boat matches (my memory is silly sometimes 😝) - what teams have you fought against or what teams were you on in 5boat matches?
It's tough to just type out what I'm arguing on. But I would also love to get more impression on your style of helming, since I think you would approach situations a lot different. Maybe we will have a friendly talk on all that one day. Sadly I don't think I have ever encountered you. I was playing in NAL EU on Team Luminous and Legacy, in which I also won pegleg. Also played a few LBH Games at the beginning with Luminous. Ive always been a helm who loves 5boat lobby's, never really enjoyed or loved 1v1s. (Liked coming up with strats and lots of tactics in 5 boat.)
@@paul.luminous Ah it all makes sense now. Thank you for your input! I appreciate it. I find it funny that there was ever a mode where saying **"Shoot Captain's Quarters"** Was a real and viable strategy! 🤣Fun times back then. But yes, this RU-vid video and 5boat scene is all about sinking people, not farming points from max range. So the strategies you have to impliment in order to be a good helm in 5boat LSS (last ship standing) -- is a little different than 5boat arena where you actually DON'T want to sink the opposing ship most of the time.
so what hapeeeeeeeenddddddddd you got redbearded for cheating and adeggs made a video about you playing with cheaters with proof and when we started camping you scuttled next match ezzzzzzzzzzzzz

@@puresoup717 I don't know how that has anything to do with what I just said. TDM'ers are just cringe. Quit the game already like ya'll said you would..
There are 2 main servers that do 1v1 tournaments. League of Thieves: discord.gg/j6TcTn8a & Gally Gauntlet: discord.gg/XsQ7JehN The only server that sometimes does 5 boat is -- Sea Dog's Legacy: - discord.gg/kj8kDu6d The problem with 5boat is that no one really likes doing it. The teams will play it once, realize that they aren't a very good 5boat helm, get pinched and fought by 2 different teams at once, then lose and vow to only play 1v1's going forward because they're the true test of skill.
On one hand I’m happy to see more people that are good at SoT come from this video. And on the other hand I’m going to fight better people because of this video
I really doight the grate bail works at all...idk everytime I had to bail and I tested it even in super light situation only let a little watter in 1 small hole patched it and only enough to get rid of all watter with 1 bail...then I tryed it out bailed through grate and every time the watter would just go back into the ship...idk maybe I'm doing something wrong when I bail through grate but it just never seams to work for me and always seasm to be better to just go to the stairs and bailout the and off at the stairs.
If you on pc Change your shortcuts to occompany bilge and pvp Example: 1 = plank 2 = cannon ball 3 = bucket 4 = food 5 = throwable This is so it 10× easier and faster to react to sitautions without spending so much time in you wheel
I love how this not only taught me how to be a better boarder, but a better ladder-guard as well. Super informative video that taught me so much despite having over 1000h of play time (been playing casually since 2018).
Uh what the actual fuck are these discord messages? Seriously, if this is the TDMers they get hate or you get hate, if you're defending nazi pedo shit I'm probably going to drop the feds on your ass.
That example I provided is actually a pretty niche scenario, let me explain. I didn't hammer it home in the video, but one of the main reasons you go for a board on Galleon vs Galleon fights is literally to just get their Helm off of cannons. If the enemy crew has flex and bilge down below, and their MC and helm topdeck shooting, then they have 2 people topdeck (obviously) --- And 2 people topdeck can easily put in enough lowerdeck holes to FORCE a flex and bilge down below if they have enough time. But if you send your MC over to the enemy crew, now their Helm HAS to get off of cannons to watch ladders, meaning that now they only have MC on cannons (1 person.) But here's the "niche" part. Yes you are correct, normally flex is the main boarder and MC is secondary. In this niche example I gave at 16:53, the scenario was: **Flex and bilge are down below, while MC and Helm are uptop** In this scenario, Flex was about to be topdeck because bilge was able to catch up with the holes, but he still had to be down below for another 10-15 seconds. So in this example, instead of WAITING for those 10-15 seconds for flex to be topdeck, you send MC over now. Reason being, if you WAIT for this 10-15 seconds, good crews will probably put in more holes into you during that time, so now Flex will be forced to stay down and will not actually be going up top. But if you send MC over, then the enemy crew's helm WILL be forced off of cannons in order to watch boarders, so with only MC on the cannons there's very little chance that 1 guy will be able to pump in enough holes to keep both your flex and bilge down below. ANYWAYS. That was all a little advanced and just a little too niche. Yes you are correct, flex is normally the main boarder and MC is secondary in most situations.
@@kaijoi8938thank you for the reply! All of that makes sense. One last clarifying question, is flex the second border coming over in this scenario? With Helm and bilge on cannons?
I love being helm because the feeling of being up on the wheel constantly having to make adjustments because galley is so big and seeing my crew shooting tons of cannons is so cool, especially with how high up the helm is on galley
The Strat called lazy board doesn’t work against good crews as they will always watch how many are on cannon line and if only 3 people are shooting in the opening broad the helm will react
It doesn’t **always** work against good crews. Correct. Luckily even if you do get guarded and they kill you, then your boat is still super far away that your helm can just peel off of the fight and reset it.
@@kaijoi8938did not think about long range still it is not a good strategy seeing how the opening broad usually is the decider of a match but gotta say I agree with the whole video just a shame 90% off people still won’t understand the distinction part. Seeing as it relieves pressure for ur bilge. Tho I have seen crews and my crew to only have one guard the boarder in quarters and keep shooting and communication his location so the people on canons can go off them when he’s a threat do I do understand that getting rid of the boarder is more important. Another thing I think u missed is when to board. It is helms call but boarding when ur boat has a lot of pressure can be good but is risky so boarding when flex is up is usually a good play. And shooting out just to blunder back and then merm back is also a good thing to do.
@@kaijoi8938I started learning gally when hg came out and me and my old friend used to watch it videos to learn how to play the gally so thanks for giving us a good start. It takes a while to actually learn the best way to gally and I think it took about 4 months just to hit lowers consistently. Gotta respect u for sharing this info with new players.
23:36 Interesting add-on for anyone who cares about the maths. I wondered since the times are pretty close, how much of a difference running to a tier 3 hole further away to repair it over a nearer tier 2 hole would be. I timed the sword hop at 6:11 from the end of the first repair to the start of the second. I did this at x0.25 speed to be 3.10 seconds for my fastest recorded time, which is 0.85s to travel between holes in regular time. (This reduces my error timing it). It works out over the travel time a tier3 hole let's in 92.65ml of water, and a tier 2 let's in 53.55ml of water. Assuming a tier2 hole is closer than a tier 3 hole, and multiplyimg these by the extra travels between holes we have: 2->3: 1342ml + 92.65ml = 1434.65ml 3->2: 1284ml + (92.65 + 53.55) + 53.55ml = 1483.75ml Because you pass by the tier2 hole, you have to come back from the tier3 to get to it again, so its time is applied twice. It would seem the time you save going for the tier 3 hole further in first, is less than the time it cost you to just complete the closer tier2 hole first... So repair the closest hole seems to be a good strategy 😅
