A channel that loves traveling and overlanding, and driving both on and off the road and trails in a fully equipped 2010 Range Rover Autobiography Black TDV8 4.4
I love nothing better than planning a trip, packing the L322 and heading off to explore new lands, trails and experience scenery 99% of the population will never witness. Being with nature, testing the vehicle on all types of terrain, utilizing all the gear and equipment to its fullest, and coming home to plan more modifications to make life overland, better.
The objective of the channel is to share those travels and adventures, as well as reviewing the gear used on those trips.
The purpose of this channel is to help you find the information you need for equipping your 4WD to go explore, the trails to find and explore, the upgrades you may want to consider for your vehicle, ultimately, having a great time.
I just wish Land Rover offered a wheel size that befits the capability of the rest of the vehicle. It’s an immensely capable off-roader with racetrack wheels.
My model was really never intended to be driven the way I do, the larger brake discs, the lack of a winch mount and any accessories to go off road, showed the last version of the L322 was firmly placed to go even further up market, unfortunately
Glad you bought the OzTent in the last video! I have the now-discontinued RV-2 and it has worked great the 10 years I've had it. I concur with your advice about buying quality. I still have all of my off-road gear I originally bought within the last 10 years: OzTent, ARB, Voyager Offroad, Hi-Lift, Warn, Lucky8, and others are well worth the money. Rover on!
very nice and informative video Marc. High quality content and entertaining. Filmed very well. Thanks for all the effort and hope you have a great travel through Portugal.
Lovely set up! Some thoughts, could you maybe connect the back part off the awning to the top permanently, sew it on there perhaps, or maybe velcro? And also, a detachable winch that could be mounted both in the front and back? Maybe with a American type towhitch? Keep them coming!
Thank you! That is an option to stitch Velcro to it, permanent wouldn’t would work, as it won’t go back in the bag. I did look at a detachable winch, the problem is there isn’t a hitch on the front, and not enough distance to get a hitch away from the bumper. Besides, I’m not a fan of them, and I certainly don’t need one on the rear.
Ahh, so those who say the gearboxes are unreliable must know they come from The Zepplin Foundation as fitted to tons of other vehicles? I think it’s grossly unfair to single out Land Rover for this one. Anyway, as said many times, you need to look after any vehicle, I’ve found the L322 very reliable so far and if anything needs doing, spend the money, buy the proper parts and don’t ignore minor faults.
They are “sealed for life” which is crap! Most have not had their fluid changed at 100k miles. Flush or get the oil and filter changed, the. Do it again at 20k miles. Mine was done when I got it, and I noticed an immediate difference. If it’s got fluid, change it on a regular schedule, especially as the vehicle ages. 👍🏻
Yes, great advice. I had mine done at 60k and again at 100k. Mega flushed etc.. second time the oil looked used but not too terrible, I will get it done again at 120k, I’d rather pay for this and do the other basic servicing myself. I change the engine oil and filter every 5k myself.
Very interesting video. Would you mind sharing the costs for the various bits of PM you did? In particular how much changing the different fluids cost as I shall start there.
Every 5K miles, oil and filter change, every 20k miles, gearbox filter and change, plus the f / r diffs. Costs, £250 for oil and filter, £500 for gearbox and diffs. If you do the work yourself, take the service charges off that.
Nice to see you on here again! I am working on my 2009 L322 RR to get it just right with suspension, off-road add-ons, and general maintenance. Plans on coming to the USA at all?
I got the lrp winch now shortend the winch tray to make a nicer snugg in the bumper as we dont have the fan as the 3.6 have. Also have a look at heavy cruiser plates. Fit the 2010-2012 with miner change. Need any pics send me pm.
Nice to see an independent review on the Egon Hub. Also nice to see someone using one of the most "unreliable" cars in the world for overland adventure travel. Personally I don't think that the Range Rover deserves that reputation. It always depends on the owner.
The simple fact is, they are not, the problem is lack of maintenance by previous owners, corner cutting on parts, bodging fixes, yes, they suffer from niggly issues, but once you fix them they generally don’t reappear. Better overview on the EGon Hub in the coming weeks
Zero issues in the 20 months I’ve had it. The drain was because it was not driven. The aux charging has nothing to do with the vehicle electrics, more to do with getting power to the back and bypassing the canbus system so I got the full 14.7V into the aux charging system
Perfect timing on your return as I just got back from holiday in Scotland. I'm keen on those Auto Clover vents....gotta figure out who has them here. If doing this over again, would you stay with the travel buddy oven or go with a small microwave (assuming you were keeping the inverter)? I've found that a small microwave gets used a lot when when camping, etc.
The sensors are for dimming the old rear mirror, not needed, the other buttons are for garage door opening, not needed. The only thing I have lost, is the high beam assist function. Which was turned off anyway as it was too distracting.
Great video - Thank you very much for the efforts compiling it. I am using a Tatonka single dome mesh tent as it seems impossibke to purchase your kind of tent outside SE Asia.... unfortunately. Do you think it would be available in Dubai?
You get get a kit from OZ to charge your batteries from the vehicle system. No need to go through the firewall. I rum an optima yellow top in the rear.
I can pump over 60amps of charge through my BCDC 40 amp charger and my manager 30 from my start battery now, so I can top up my 200ah lithium battery bank, in just a few hours of driving. For my needs, I need this set-up.
On my 2010 RRS I have 285/35 on 22” x 10” rims (fitted by previous owner). Tyres need replacement shortly & thinking of going up to a 45 profile with same 285 width for a more comfortable ride. Would appreciate your thoughts on this?
Unless you change the rim, the ride will be terrible because there is no sidewalll to soften the road vibrations. if you want comfortable. Drop to at least 20”’s with 55 profile tyres and the ride will vastly improve
@@Overlanding4WD Thank you for highlighting the L322 as an overland offroad vehicle. There aren't many of us out there. :) Have you been to the US with it? I'll be at Overland Expo West (Arizona) in May.
Good videos … keep them coming …… can you advise a couple of routes in Spain / Portugal for someone going for the first time. Would very much appreciate it
Sure, take a look on Wikilocs Overlanding4wd - norther Spain route from Bardenes Reales To Luna, is easy, but weaves 50 miles through the badlands. Also look south of Zaragoza, the Monegros Desert, hinders of gravel / sand trails to weave through the farm lands.
Hi Mark, I hope you’re well and enjoying life. I was wondering if you will be doing any more RU-vid videos as you haven’t uploaded one for a few months. Missing your videos, or have you given up on RU-vid 🤔😢👍
Hey. Thanks for a great channel. I just bought the LRP roofrack for my Discovery 4. How do you spell the German name that made the rooftop tent mounting bars? Best regards / Thomas
I had my 2004 4.4 v8 petrol since November 21 as a weekend car. It cost me £4300.00. I have spent 2k on maintenance including full service to gearbox and engine. Suspension components and a new alternator. New brake pads and a caliper. Upgraded to some second hand 20s alloys and tyres then got the tracking sorted and it has ran sweet as a nut since. Looking forward to a family trip to Norfolk in it at the end of the month
Love these cars. Can we see more of the car and less of you? Nothing personal. Also, Toyota owners...if they put as much effort into looking after their landcruisers, they simply would not die...ever. But nice video nevertheless.
At this time i wish o still live in the Uk... i am Portuguese, in Portugal, and a L322 td6 from 2003 start at arround 17000 euros!!! But i am still looking to find one that will be mine! Keep up! 💪
